However, often size increases causing pain, and complications of fractures can severely compromise the patient. Aim: The results in a series of cases treated minimally invasive using a new device for the application of allogenic bone material appear highly promising and shall be presented. Patients and Methods: Eight consecutive patients with symptomatic Unicameral Bone Cysts (UBC) were treated by percutaneous instillation of Grafton? DBF Putty (demineralised allogenic bone containing fibers) mixed with autologous bone marrow using the Kyphon? Cement Delivery System (Medtronic), which allows the injection of this high viscosity paste by controlled high pressure. Five patients with Aneurysmal Bone Cysts (ABC) were treated accordingly after inactivation by Aethoxysclerol 3% and lacking bone formation. Using this approach a high rate of bone regeneration was observed in these patients at 8 months to 5 years follow-up (f/u). Conclusion: The presented technique of a minimally invasive biologic treatment led to highly satisfying results using the Grafton? DBF Putty with its higher potential for bone regeneration than demineralized bone matrix not containing fibres (DBM).展开更多

The neutral-pH putty resembles hard bone tissue, does not contain polymers or plasticizers, and is self-setting and nearly isothermic, properties which are helpful for the adhesion, proliferation, and function of bone cells. The aim of this study was to investigate the osteogenic potential of human bone morphogenetic protein 2 (hBMP2) gene activated nanobone putty in inducing ectopic bone formation, and the effects of the hBMP2 gene activated nanobone putty on repairing bone defects. Methods Twenty four Kunming mice were randomly divided into two groups. The nanobone putty + hBMP2 plasmid was injected into the right thigh muscle pouches of the mice (experiment side). The nanobone putty + blank plasmid or nanobone putty was injected into the left thigh muscle pouches of the group 1 (control side 1) or group 2 (control side 2), respectively. The effects of ectopic bone formation were evaluated by radiography, histology, and molecular biology analysis at 2 and 4 weeks after operation. Bilateral 15 mm radial defects were made in forty-eight rabbits. These rabbits were randomly divided into three groups: Group A, nanobone putty + hBMP2 plasmid; Group B, putty + blank plasmid; Group C, nanobone putty only. Six rabbits with left radial defects served as blank controls. The effect of bone repairing was evaluated by radiography, histology, molecular biology, and biomechanical analysis at 4, 8, and 12 weeks after operation. Results The tissue from the experimental side of the mice expressed hBMP2. Obvious cartilage and island-distributed immature bone formation in implants of the experiment side were observed at 2 weeks after operation, and massive mature bone observed at 4 weeks. No bone formation was observed in the control side of the mice. The ALP activity in the experiment side of the mice was higher than that in the control side. The tissue of Group A rabbits expressed hBMP2 protein and higher ALP level. The new bone formation rate and antibending strength of group A was significantly higher than those of group B and C. The defects in blank control were not healed. Conclusions The hBMP2 gene activated nanobone putty exhibited osteoinductive ability, and had a better bone defect repair capabilitv than that of nanobone putty only.展开更多

Four types of wood-flour (300, 500, 800 and 1 000 mesh) were prepared through the technological processes of shattering, coarse grinding and fine grinding. And latex (16% of solid content) and two kinds of agents (A and B) were added into the putty. In this experiment, effects of agent and particle size of wood-flour on properties of organic wood-flour putty, such as painting properties, water resistance, and abrasive resistance and so on, were discussed. The results showed that considering all of performance indexes, wood-flour putty contained with 8.0% agent A or 2.0% agent B has a better performance than the others. In addition, wood-flour putty with 500 mesh of wood-flour is the best.展开更多

Patients and Method: A randomized controlled clinical and radiographic trial was conducted on 24 male patients aged from 45 - 55 with badly decayed non-restorable teeth in the posterior mandibular area and seeking for receiving immediate dental implant directly after extraction. Vertical bone height and bone density were taken at time of implant placement and 6 months postoperatively. Results: The Putty form group and the Granular form group did not differ statistically in terms of age, post-operative complications, or implant outcome six months postoperatively. Additionally, there was a statistically significant increase in Putty form group compared to the Granular form group regarding Marginal bone loss 6 months postoperatively, but there was no statistically significant difference between the Putty form group and the Granular form group regarding Bone density by CBCT. Conclusion: The β-TCP Putty material, compared to β-TCP granular, displayed better surgical handling properties, and both forms had no adverse effect on bone formation, bone tissue maturation or graft volume stability, The β-TCP granular material, compared to β-TCP putty, displayed less marginal bone loss 6 months post-operatively.展开更多
