Many countries already made XBRL mandatory in their accounting system. The financial industry is normally the first XBRL network report implementer in these countries and it has its own industry classification standard. However, there are many issues been reported on the quality of XBRL formatted financial statement in the financial industry, such as project omission, project misstatements, account omission, and amount misstatements. This paper has conducted an empirical research on the quality of XBRL financial statement in the financial industry based on all samples available from the Shanghai stock exchange and analyzed the market effect of these issues for over six year window period. A web presentation quality evaluation criteria evaluation model was used in the investigation. Evidences indicate that the number of errors in report item omissions was the biggest problem in XBRL formatted financial reports comparing with other types of errors, while this affected the growth rate of company, unexpected rate of return, and the adoption of XBRL. Suggestions on solving these issues are then provided after comparing with the data point methodology (DPM) implementation for XBRL financial reporting in European countries, especially the World Bank.展开更多

It is an intangible asset which reflects an excess of value of an acquired business as a whole over a summed value of its identifiable net assets. Since 2010, the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) allow for two alternative methods of measuring goodwill in those business combinations, where an acquirer obtains a control over a target company without obtaining 100% share in its shareholder's equity. Under one of these methods, which is called a "full-goodwill method", the goodwill attributable to non-controlling interests in subsidiary is measured at fair value. Thus, the main accounting problem with this method lies in its requirement to estimate the fair value of non-controlling interests. This paper suggests that the "full-goodwill method" may sacrifice financial statement reliability for its alleged relevance, with significant potential for "creative accounting". The problems with reliability and transparency of financial statements, when "full-goodwill method" is applied, are illustrated by a real-life example of the takeover of Formula Systems Ltd. by Asseco Group (one of the biggest IT companies in Europe, listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange).展开更多

Spiritual values are measured using four reflexive indicators, namely, Shiddiq, Fathanah, Amanah, and Tabligh. Work motivation is formed by four formative indicators, namely, compensation, recognition, work experience, and openness. Management control variable is formed by four formative indicators, namely, planning, implementing, evaluating, and monitoring, and finally, the quality of financial information is manifested in four reflexive variables, namely, relevant, comparable, understandable, and consistent. Data are collected through questionnaires with 125 respondents as samples from three types of IFIs, such as Islamic banking, Islamic pawnshop, and Islamic insurance in Indonesia. Methods of data analysis include the use of partial least squares (PLS) to analyze the influence of spiritual values on work motivation, management control, and quality of financial information. The results of this study showed that the manifestation of spiritual values in IFIs is able to influence the quality of financial information through the media as motivation and management control, but directly spiritual values are not able to influence the quality of financial information. While work motivation and management control significantly influence the quality of financial information.展开更多

Because the reform wasn't entire, the ownership structure of Chinese listed companies looks freakish. That is to say, the ownership is highly concentrated in the state, who has just no tangible rights to control the business, which results in "insider control", "owner absence", "duality of manager and chairman", and so on. At the same time, such an ownership structure is unavoidable to supply inducement to the people who has relative benefits in it, and it eventually affects the quality of their financial reports. The data are extracted from 12 sample firms representing 50% (as the population of the study) of all the quoted manufacturing companies in Nigeria. A multiple regression is used as a tool of analysis for the study. The result reveals a strongly positive relationship between the firm structure and the financial reporting quality of the quoted manufacturing firms in Nigeria. Therefore, it is recommended among others that the regulators should enforce more on the financial statement disclosure and transparency among companies quoted on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), in order to ensure a higher quality of the financial reporting展开更多

First, we examined whether there is still a significant association between financial statement quality and the tenure of audit partners who are responsible for the quality assurance of financial statements after the implementation of mandatory audit partner rotation. We addressed this issue by using a sample of Taiwan Residents companies, with which no significant association between audit partner tenure and the magnitude of discretionary accruals (DA), a common proxy for financial statement quality, was found. Second, we investigated whether an association exists between the financial statement quality and the tenure of management who is responsible for the preparation of financial statements. We also addressed this issue by using Taiwan Residents data and found a significant association between management tenure (MT) and the magnitude of DA. Our findings provide evidence that audit partner tenure would neither improve nor deteriorate the quality assurance of a financial statement, when there is a mandatory audit partner rotation after a fixed period of time. Whereas how MT affects financial statement quality after the enactment of the mandatory audit partner rotation is dependent on the management position. Increasing tenure of chief executive officer (CEO) and chief financial officer (CFO) will enhance and hinder financial statement quality respectively. In the end, we found a significant interaction of tenure between auditor and CFO. This result implies that the downward bias of CFO on the financial statement preparation can be mitigated by auditors with increasing tenure.展开更多

In response to the recommendations of G20, Financial Crisis Advisory Group (FCAG), and other international bodies, the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) has undertaken, since 2009, as a part of the project to replace IAS 39, a project (partially shared with Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB)) aimed at introducing an expected loss model of impairment. Within the scope of this subset project, the IASB has previously issued two exposure documents proposing models to account for expected credit losses: an exposure draft (ED) Financial Instrument: Amortized Cost and Impairment, published in November 2009, and a supplementary document (SD) Financial Instrument: Impairment, published jointly with the FASB in January 2011. However, neither of the two proposals received strong support from interested parties. Recently, the IASB, after the FASB's decision to withdraw from the joint project and to develop a separate expected credit loss model based on a single measurement approach consisting in the sole recognition of lifetime expected credit losses, published a third proposal--Ahe so-called expected credit losses model (ED/2013/3 Financial Instruments: Expected Credit Losses).展开更多

It is the objective of this study to develop a cross-cultural model for validating customer experiences of digital financial advice. In doing so, both objective and subjective system aspects have been considered. It is found that experiential subjective system aspects are the most important. Surveys have been conducted in The United Kingdom and The Netherlands. In exploratory factor analysis, five dominant factors were obtained in the UK and six factors in The Netherlands to explain customer experience. Based on the factor scores, multiple regression analysis has been performed to develop the digital customer experience model (DCX model). This is the first cross-cultural model to evaluate customer experience of financial advice. In an era in which financial institutions and FinTech companies battle for the engagement of customers, the DCX model is the first to fundamentally drive value creation, differentiation, regulation, and future research.展开更多

This paper aims at investigating both the relationship between board independence and the quality of voluntary financial disclosure and how previous relationship is moderated by the level of ownership concentration. The analysis has been conducted on a sample of Italian non-financial listed companies. The results show that there is a positive and significant relationship between board independence and the quality of voluntary financial disclosure provided by companies. In addition, the findings reveal that ownership concentration plays a relevant moderating role in previous relationship. The results highlight the necessity to consider the interaction effects of different governance mechanisms, when studying corporate governance effectiveness.展开更多

Vietnam has been establishing gradually a consistem legal framework according to countries in the world for improving information in financial statements of enterprises. Timely, the Ministry of Finance has made a great effort to publish the draft to correct and adjust accounting laws, accounting standards, and accounting systems to improve and enhance the quality of accounting information. However, based on the result of experiment survey including auditors, chief accountants, and investors, the information in the financial statements provided by Vietnamese enterprises has some shortcomings. The information provided by organizations has not satisfied the demand of users to make useful decisions. Ideally, Vietnam needs to have certain improvements in overall by state, enterprises, and occupation organizations to provide information with high quality and accuracy. This in turn will be crucial for Vietnam in international accounting integration progress.展开更多

Using a sample of 70 companies listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, this study uses archival data in the form of companies' annual reports to measure the association between audit committees and improved financial reporting quality. Dechew and Dichev (2002)'s model was used to measure earnings as a proxy for financial reporting quality. The results indicate that formation of audit committees was positively associated with improved financial reporting quality. It was also found that audit committees having an independent chair and audit committee expertise were positively associated with financial reporting quality. Other audit committee characteristics examined were found to be insignificantly related to financial reporting quality.展开更多

文摘This study investigates the association between quality of financial statements and tenure of statement-related personnel. This result implies that the downward bias of CFO on the financial statement preparation can be mitigated by auditors with increasing tenure.
文摘During the financial crisis, the delayed recognition of credit losses on loans and other financial instruments was identified as a weakness in existing incurred loss model of impairment stated by International Accounting Standards (IAS) 39, because it is believed that this delay might generate pro-cyclical effects. Recently, the IASB, after the FASB's decision to withdraw from the joint project and to develop a separate expected credit loss model based on a single measurement approach consisting in the sole recognition of lifetime expected credit losses, published a third proposal--Ahe so-called expected credit losses model (ED/2013/3 Financial Instruments: Expected Credit Losses).

This is the first cross-cultural model to evaluate customer experience of financial advice. In an era in which financial institutions and FinTech companies battle for the engagement of customers, the DCX model is the first to fundamentally drive value creation, differentiation, regulation, and future research.

文摘China's rapid economic development leads to a series of environmental problems in the long run, such as air pollution.Environmental pollution has become a bottleneck restricting the sustainable development of China's economy. As such, pollution has become a key issue for China as让tries to continuously improve environmental quality and establish a harmonious coexistence between man and nature. This paper uses spatial econometric analysis to empirically test the existence of the Environmental Kuznets Curve(EKC)in China while also examining the impact of financial development on its inflection point by applying Air Quality Index and PM_(2.5) data of 283 prefecture-level cities in China from 2015 to 2017.Findings from this study indicate that the EKC of air pollution in the whole country presents an inverted U-shape based on both the traditional and new EKC models. After testing the sub-sample in different areas, the EKC still presents an inverted U-shape based on the new EKC model in the eastern and central areas, though not in the western area.In considering the moderating role of financial development based on the new EKC model,we find that the increase of financial depth will cause the EKC inflection point to shift to the left on the national scale and in the eastern region, while the effect of the financial breadth will be largely insignificant. With regard to the central area, both the breadth and the depth of financial development will significantly shift the inflection point to the right, delaying the arrival of the EKC inflection point. Therefore, the local authority of each area should formulate differentiated financial development policies to promote the early arrival of the EKC inflection point.
