The activity coefficient of Al in molten Cu decreases with the increasing of electric current applied to the liquid alloy of Cu-0.2wt%Al. To investigate the mechanism, the quenching experimental results of the liquid Al-Cu alloy show that there is a re- markable change in structure, in which the solute congregates along the current direction especially for DC current. The mechanism of the activity coefficient change of Al in molten Cu-0.2wt%Al alloy treated by electrical field was discussed. Further, the results also provide an evidence for the short-range-ordered liquid metal. 展开更多

In this paper, we describe three strata at the distal part of the pyroclastic-flow from the Tianchi volcano in 1215 (±15) eruption. One of the strata with crosslayers that are different from typical pyroclastic-flow strata may come from a ground-surge. The grain-size and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis was performed to study the origin of the pyroclastic-flow. Characteristics of grain-size distribution show that it is similar with the ash cloud. Through the SEM analyses, we found some quench structures with less damage on the surfaces of the vitric pumices. These phenomena indicate that there has been hydration in the transportation processes at the distal of pyroclastic-flow. It has partly changed the transportation mechanism of pyroclastic-flow, which transitions form dense flow to diluted flow. This paper develops a new distal pyroclastic-flow model in the Tianchi volcano that can be divided into three stages, i.e. the quench stage, expanding stage and depositing stage. 展开更多

YbF(2.357, YbF3, Ba2 YbF7, and Ba 2 upconversion nanocrystals doped with emitter Er^3+ ion were synthesized in the same solvent system just with changing the molar ratio of Ba^2+ to Yb^3+ in the precursor, which corresponed to the crystal phases of rhombohedral, orthorhombic, tetragonal, and cubic, respectively. All the samples emitted both 660 nm red light and 543/523 nm green light which originated from Er^3+-4f^n electronic transitions ~4F(9/2-~4I(15/2 and ~4S(3/2/~2H(11/2-~4I(15/2, respectively. It was worth mentioning that YbF 3:Er^3+, Ba2 YbF7:Er^3+, and BaF2:Er^3+ could emit dazzlingly bright light even under the excitation of a 980 nm CW laser with output power of 0.1 W. Upconversion emission mechanism analysis indicated that the intensity ratio of red to green light highly depended on the synergistic effect of crystal structure, concentration quenching, and particle size, but were not sensitive to crystallinity as previously reported for NaL nF4(Ln=lanthanide. 展开更多

The structure of rapldly quenched Al-Si alloys (1 and 4 wt-%Si) was systematically studied by optical and transmission electron microscopy (TEM ) as welI as X-ray djffractjon (XRD). ExperimentaIresults show that rapid solidification refines the grain size. extends the solid solubility of Si in Al and Introduces a high density ot defects which exist in the forms of vacancies, dislocations and dislocation loops. etc.. The decomposition process of the alloys was fol lowed by using differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and the activation energy for precipitation of Si was obtained through Kissinger analysis. The precipitation behaviour of Supersaturated Si in both samples was further examined by TEM. It was found that Si mainly precipitated inside the grains in Al-1 wt-%Si alloy. while in Al-4 wt-%Si alloy. nearly all the Si precipitates distributed along the grain boundaries.
