Nowadays,the increasing electromagnetic waves generated by wearable devices are becoming an emerging issue for human health,so stretchable electromagnetic interference(EMI)shielding materials are highly demanded.Eleph...Nowadays,the increasing electromagnetic waves generated by wearable devices are becoming an emerging issue for human health,so stretchable electromagnetic interference(EMI)shielding materials are highly demanded.Elephant trunks are capable of grabbing fragile vegetation and tearing trees thanks not only to their muscles but also to their folded skins.Inspired by the wrinkled skin of the elephant trunks,herein,we propose a winkled conductive film based on single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs)for multifunctional EMI applications.The conductive film has a sandwich structure,which was prepared by coating SWCNTs on both sides of the stretched elastic latex cylindrical substrate.The shrinking-induced winkled conductive network could withstand up to 200%tensile strain.Typically,when the stretching direction is parallel to the polarization direction of the electric field,the total EMI shielding effectiveness could surprisingly increase from 38.4 to 52.7 dB at 200%tensile strain.It is mainly contributed by the increased connection of the SWCNTs.In addition,the film also has good Joule heating performance at several voltages,capable of releasing pains in injured joints.This unique property makes it possible for strain-adjustable multifunctional EMI shielding and wearable thermotherapy applications.展开更多

Few management options are available, aside from preventive meas...Huanglongbing (HLB, or citrus greening) is the most destructive disease of citrus, which is associated with Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (Las). Few management options are available, aside from preventive measures such as removing infected plants, planting disease-free seedlings, and managing the insect vector. In this study, we assessed the efficacy of thermotherapy against HLB under controlled greenhouse conditions. A total of 60 two-year-old, graft-infected Citrus reticulata Blanco plants were used. The plants were randomly divided into three groups (45℃, 48℃, and untreated control), with five plants/replicate (rep) and four reps/treatment. The treated plants were placed in phytotrons for a 4-h treatment session, repeated once per week for three consecutive weeks. Disease remission was observed eight weeks post-treatment. Real-time PCR assays revealed that Las titers in HLB-affected seedlings were significantly reduced in both 45 and 48℃ treatments four weeks after treatment, with the exception of eight plants. In contrast, Las titers in the untreated control plants increased significantly during the same period, with a maximum increase of 28-fold. Except for seven plants, Las titers in the new flushes of treated plants decreased more than 90% eight weeks after treatment. Las titers in mature leaves of treated plants decreased 56 and 60% in average at 45 and 48℃, respectively, eight weeks after treatment. The HLB symptoms and Las titer of seedings were markedly alleviated eight weeks after treatment in both 45 and 48℃ treatments. Our results laid a good foundation for the further development of citrus free-disease seedling cultivation and Huanglongbing control in the field. The whole plants were replaced for scion or branch in previous as the research object in this study, and the expression of Huanglongbing symptoms combined with real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) were used to evaluate the effect of heat treatment in the greenhouse.展开更多

Two apple cultivars, Malusxdomestica cv. Pink Lady and Huafu, were used in the experiment and both have widely grown in China and infected with Apple chlorotic leafspot virus (ACLSV) and Apple stem grooving virus (ASGV). Results in growth and virus titer of apple plants did not exhibit clear trends during five different periods of pre-culture. Whilst, pre-culture increased the survival rate of the two cultivars during thermotherapy. The survival rate of plants pre-cultured for 13 d (P-13d) was 14 and 51% higher than that of P-ld plants for Pink Lady and Huafu, respectively. Moreover, pre-culture positively influenced regeneration of Huafu plants. The average survival rate of plants regenerated from P-ld and P-4d was 20% lower than that regenerated from P-7d, P-10d, and P-13d. The efficiency of virus eradication was determined by reverse-transcription PCR with two primer pairs for each virus, and the detection results showed that pre-culture scarcely affected apple virus elimination. Despite the fact that the two viruses were hardly detected at 5 d of thermotherapy, no virus-free plants were found in the two cultivars of regenerated apple plantlets after 30-d treatment.展开更多
Summary: This study aimed to examine the optimal conditions of laser-induced interstitial ther- motherapy (LITT) via a single-needle delivery system, and the ablation-related pathological and ultra- sonic changes. ...Summary: This study aimed to examine the optimal conditions of laser-induced interstitial ther- motherapy (LITT) via a single-needle delivery system, and the ablation-related pathological and ultra- sonic changes. Ultrasound (US)-guided LITT (EchoLaser system) was performed at the output power of 2--4 Wattage (W) for 1-10 min in ex vivo bovine liver. Based on the results of the ex vivo study, the output power of 3 and 4 W with different durations was applied to in vivo rabbit livers (n=24), and VX2 tumors implanted in the hind limbs of rabbits (n=24). The ablation area was histologically determined by hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining. Traditional US and contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) were used to evaluate the treatment outcomes. The results showed: (1) In the bovine liver, ablation disruption was grossly seen, including a strip-like ablation crater, a carbonization zone anteriorly along the fiber tip, and a surrounding gray-white coagulation zone. The coagulation area, 1.2 cm in length and 1.0 cm in width, was formed in the bovine liver subjected to the ablation at 3 W for 5 min and 4 W for 4 rain, and it extended slightly with the ablation time. (2) In the rabbit liver, after LITT at 3 W for 3 min and more, the coagulation area with length greater than or equal to 1.2 cm, and width greater than or equal to 1.0 cm, was found. Similar coagulation area was seen in the implanted VX2 carcinoma at 3 W for 5 min. (3) Gross examination of the liver and carcinoma showed three distinct regions: ablation cra- ter/carbonization, coagulation and congestion distributed from the center outwards. (4) Microscopy re- vealed four zones after LITT, including ablation crater/carbonization, coagulation, edema and conges- tion from the center outwards. A large area with coagulative necrosis was observed around a vessel in the peripheral area with edema and hyperemia. (5) The size of coagulation was consistent well to the CEUS findings. It was concluded that EchoLaser system at low power can produce a coagulation area larger than 1.0 cm×1.0 cm during a short time period. The real-time US imaging can be used to effec- tively guide and assess the treatment.展开更多

METHODS: Cases with delaye...AIM: To compare the hemostatic efficacy between epinephrine injection alone and epinephrine injection combined with thermotherapy for delayed postendoscopic sphincterotomy (ES) bleeding. METHODS: Cases with delayed post-ES bleeding undergoing epinephrine injection alone (epinephrine injection group, n = 26) or epinephrine combined with thermotherapy (combination therapy group, n = 33) in our institution between 1999 and 2007 were retrospectively investigated. The main outcome measurements were: initial endoscopic hemostasis, rebleeding, complications, requirement of angiographic embolization or surgery, requirement for blood transfusion, and mortality. RESULTS: The initial hemostatic efficacy was 96.2% for epinephrine injection alone and 100% for combination therapy (P = 0.44). There were four patients with re-bleeding in each group (16.0% vs 12.1%, P = 0.72). There was only one complication of pancreatitis from the combination therapy group. Three patients (11.5%) in the epinephrine injection group and one patient (3%) in the combination therapy group required angiographic embolization or surgery (P = 0.31). The total number of blood transfusions was not significantly different between the two groups (3.5 ± 4.6 U vs 3.5 ± 4.5 U, P = 0.94). There was no bleeding-related death in either group. CONCLUSION: Epinephrine injection alone is as effective as epinephrine injection combined with thermotherapy for the management of delayed post- ES bleeding.展开更多
The detrimental effects of Huanglongbing(HLB)on citrus are well known and so is the need for effective methods to combat this disease.Solar thermotherapy(ST),one of the management methods to help alleviate some of the...The detrimental effects of Huanglongbing(HLB)on citrus are well known and so is the need for effective methods to combat this disease.Solar thermotherapy(ST),one of the management methods to help alleviate some of the negative effects of HLB,is the process of heating trees to therapeutic temperatures by encompassing the tree within a plastic structure(Visqueen)to harness the sun’s natural energy.ST was applied to mature‘Valencia’citrus trees in three locations.Tree vigor,yield,and Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus(Las)titer in leaves were monitored for two consecutive seasons post ST treatment,while fruit and juice quality were evaluated at the end of the second season.ST promoted an increase in canopy density in most groves tested and did not have a significant effect on fruit quantity,despite the prolonged exposure of the trees to increased temperatures.Moreover,Las titer was reduced in both leaves and juice processed from affected trees post ST.With respect to fruit quality,the ratio of total soluble solids to titratable acidity was higher post ST compared to controls as was the sucrose content of the juice in most treated groves,whereas limonin was higher in juice from control trees.Principal components analysis of aroma volatiles showed significant differences between juice from treated versus control trees with volatiles imparting top-note and freshness to orange juice,such as acetaldehyde,hexanal,Z-3-hexenol and linalool,being higher in juice fromtreated trees.Taste panels confirmed that flavor differences existed,ultimately showing that ST resulted in improved juice flavor in well-managed groves.Although the effects of ST on the trees appear temporary,such outcomes emphasize its utility when used as part of an integrated management strategy for HLB-affected citrus,imparting beneficial horticultural responses with minimal to positive effects on subsequent juice flavor.展开更多
AIM:To investigate the role of c-Jun N-terminal kinase(JNK) in thermotherapy-induced apoptosis in human gastric cancer SGC-7901 cells.METHODS:Human gastric cancer SGC-7901 cells were cultured in vitro.Following thermo...AIM:To investigate the role of c-Jun N-terminal kinase(JNK) in thermotherapy-induced apoptosis in human gastric cancer SGC-7901 cells.METHODS:Human gastric cancer SGC-7901 cells were cultured in vitro.Following thermotherapy at 43 ℃ for 0,0.5,1,2 or 3 h,the cells were cultured for a further 24 h with or without the JNK specific inhibitor,SP600125 for 2 h.Apoptosis was evaluated by immunohistochemistry [terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling(TUNEL)] and flow cytometry(Annexin vs propidium iodide).Cell proliferation was determined by 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide.The production of p-JNK,Bcl-2,Bax and caspase-3 proteins was evaluated by Western blotting.The expression of JNK at mRNA level was determined by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction.RESULTS:The proliferation of gastric carcinoma SGC-7901 cells was significantly inhibited following thermotherapy,and was 32.7%,30.6%,43.8% and 52.9% at 0.5,1,2 and 3 h post-thermotherapy,respectively.Flow cytometry analysis revealed an increased population of SGC790l cells in G0/G1 phase,but a reduced population in S phase following thermotherapy for 1 or 2 h,compared to untreated cells(P < 0.05).The increased number of SGC-790l cells in G0/G1 phase was consistent with induced apoptosis(flow cytometry) following thermotherapy for 0.5,1,2 or 3 h,compared to the untreated group(46.5% ± 0.23%,39.9% ± 0.53%,56.6% ± 0.35% and 50.4% ± 0.29% vs 7.3% ± 0.10%,P < 0.01),respectively.This was supported by the TUNEL assay(48.2% ± 0.4%,40.1% ± 0.2%,61.2% ± 0.29% and 52.0% ± 0.42% vs 12.2% ± 0.22%,P < 0.01) respectively.More importantly,the expression of p-JNK protein and JNK mRNA levels were significantly higher at 0.5 h than at 0 h post-treatment(P < 0.01),and peaked at 2 h.A similar pattern was detected for Bax and caspase-3 proteins.Bcl-2 increased at 0.5 h,peaked at 1 h,and then decreased.Furthermore,the JNK specific inhibitor,SP600125,suppressed p-JNK,Bax and caspase-3 at the protein level in SGC790l cells following thermotherapy,compared to mock-inhibitor treatment,which was in line with the decreased rate of apoptosis.The expression of Bcl-2 was consistent with thermotherapy alone.CONCLUSION:Thermotherapy induced apoptosis in gastric cancer cells by promoting p-JNK at the mRNA and protein levels,and up-regulated the expression of Bax and caspase-3 proteins.Bcl-2 may play a protective role during thermotherapy.Activation of JNK via the Bax-caspase-3 pathway may be important in thermotherapy-induced apoptosis in gastric cancer cells.展开更多

This study evaluated t...Vitis vinifera 87-1 plants infected by grapevine fleck virus(GFkV) and grapevine rupestris stem pitting-associated virus(GRSPaV) were used as the plant materials for virus elimination treatment. This study evaluated the effects of ribavirin at different concentrations(15 and 25 μg mL^(–1);R15 and R25, respectively), thermotherapy(37°C;T), and the combination of ribavirin and thermotherapy(R15+T and R25+T) on eliminating viruses from grapevine plants in vitro. Both R15 and R25 had phytotoxic effects and weakened plant growth. Thermotherapy positively affected the growth of grapevine plants. Plant height was significantly greater in T, R15+T, and R25+T than in CK, R15 and R25. The proportion of dead plants after T, R15+T, and R25+T was 51.4, 11.4, and 8.6%, respectively. The survival rates of regenerated plants after all treatments were >68.0%. Ribavirin concentration and treatment time were related to the regeneration of shoot tips and elimination efficiencies of the two viruses. The survival rates of plants after R15+T for 30, 40, and 50 days were 97.3, 90.7, and 74.4%, respectively. The elimination rates of GRSPaV from plants in the three time quantum were 55.6, 84.6, and 93.8%, respectively. The elimination rate of GFkV was 23.9% higher in R25(35/44) than in R15(25/45), and that of GRSPaV was 7.0% higher in R25 than in R15. The combination of thermotherapy and chemotherapy was found to have a positive effect on the eradication of GFkV and GRSPaV, and R25+T for 50 days was able to completely eliminate the two viruses from in vitro grapevines.展开更多

Methods The retina were irradiated with 810 nm diode laser in 16 eyes of 8 pigmented rabbits and 12 eyes of 6 albino rabbits. The spot size was 1.2 mm; the duration was 60 s; and powers were 50, 80, 150 and 300 mW for pigmented rabbits and 800, 1 200 and 1 500mW for albino rabbits. All of the eyes were followed up with ophthalmolscope. The fundus was photographed and examined histologically with optic microscope immediately and 1 month after TTT respectively. Results The changes of the fundus and the histological examination were not significant immediately and 1 month after TTT in 50 mW group of pigmented rabbit and 800 mW of albino rabbit. Grey spot on the retina was observed on the fundus in 80 mW group of pigmented rabbit and 1 200 mW of albino rabbit immediately after TTT. The structure of the retina remained intact and subretinal fluid was observed histologically. Grey spot was still visible on the fundus, though the fluid was absorbed after 1 month. As the power of diode laser was increased to 150 mW for pigmented rabbits and 1500 mW for albino rabbit, fundus white spots were observed and the outer retina was destroyed while photoreceptors existed immediately after TTT. Pigmentation was found in white lesions and the fibrous proliferation was found in choroid 1 month after TTT. Prominent white spot was seen on the fundus immediately after laser irradiation of 300 mW in pigmented rabbits and the structure of the retina was obscured. One month after TTT, dense pigmentation appeared at laser lesions. The retina was thinner. There was prominent fibrous proliferation in the choroid. Conclusion The fundus pigment seems to play an important role in the response of the retina to TTT. The reaction of the retina is in proportion to the intensity of laser.展开更多
Thermal ablation procedures,such as high intensity focused ultrasound and radiofrequency ablation,are often used to eliminate tumors by minimally invasively heating a focal region.For this task,real-time 3D temperatur...Thermal ablation procedures,such as high intensity focused ultrasound and radiofrequency ablation,are often used to eliminate tumors by minimally invasively heating a focal region.For this task,real-time 3D temperature visualization is key to target the diseased tissues while minimizing damage to the surroundings.Current computed tomography(CT)thermometry is based on energy-integrated CT,tissue-specific experimental data,and linear relationships between attenuation and temperature.In this paper,we develop a novel approach using photon-counting CT for material decomposition and a neural network to predict temperature based on thermal characteristics of base materials and spectral tomographic measurements of a volume of interest.In our feasibility study,distilled water,50 mmol/L CaCl2,and 600 mmol/L CaCl2 are chosen as the base materials.Their attenuations are measured in four discrete energy bins at various temperatures.The neural network trained on the experimental data achieves a mean absolute error of 3.97°C and 1.80°C on 300 mmol/L CaCl2 and a milk-based protein shake respectively.These experimental results indicate that our approach is promising for handling non-linear thermal properties for materials that are similar or dis-similar to our base materials.展开更多

Using a coupled...The present work proposed a simple model for breast cancer hyperthermia treatment at 2.45 GHz. The proposed model involves nine-element antennas alongside a numerical breast comprising multiple tumors. Using a coupled EM-Thermal simulation in the CST suite, the simulated results for a single antenna showed a reflection coefficient (S<sub>11</sub>) better than -47 dB and demonstrated a bandwidth of 78 MHz. The specific absorption rate (SAR) as a function of input powers was examined inside the breast tissues, where it exhibited a promising performance higher than 3 W/kg at the tumor volume when the applied power was at a reasonable level of 1.5 W whereas it was well attained under the recommend IEEE level of 1.6 W/kg through the surrounded health tissues. Taking into consideration nine-element antennas covering the breast containing two different located tumors, the maximum temperature as a function of treatment time was presented at which a resulting temperature of 43°C was obtainable within 10 minutes, favored for hyperthermia purposes. Considering the maximum power level of 1.5 W, the potential use of applying three-element antennas, simultaneously with 0.5 W, could be achieved.展开更多

However, manufacturing wearable heating devices that are breathable, wear resistant and conformal for long-term use is still challenging. To address these issues, we designed a leather heater using breathable, biocompatible, and tailorable leather as the substrate through a simple in-situ polymerization polypyrrole strategy. This heater exhibits excellent heating and mechanical properties(reaching 64℃ at a voltage of 5 V with efficient Joule heat generation of 2286 W/m^(2)and uniform temperature distribution, and functioning properly after 1000 cycles of bendability tests). In addition, this heater displays better wear resistance and water vapor permeability rate(38.04 g/(m^(2)h)). The cuttable and sewable of leather gives the strategy ability to be flexibly designed to mold the heater to the specific requirements of different body parts, providing a new approach to wearable thermal therapy.展开更多

文摘Summary: This study aimed to examine the optimal conditions of laser-induced interstitial ther- motherapy (LITT) via a single-needle delivery system, and the ablation-related pathological and ultra- sonic changes. Ultrasound (US)-guided LITT (EchoLaser system) was performed at the output power of 2--4 Wattage (W) for 1-10 min in ex vivo bovine liver. Based on the results of the ex vivo study, the output power of 3 and 4 W with different durations was applied to in vivo rabbit livers (n=24), and VX2 tumors implanted in the hind limbs of rabbits (n=24). The ablation area was histologically determined by hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining. Traditional US and contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) were used to evaluate the treatment outcomes. The results showed: (1) In the bovine liver, ablation disruption was grossly seen, including a strip-like ablation crater, a carbonization zone anteriorly along the fiber tip, and a surrounding gray-white coagulation zone. The coagulation area, 1.2 cm in length and 1.0 cm in width, was formed in the bovine liver subjected to the ablation at 3 W for 5 min and 4 W for 4 rain, and it extended slightly with the ablation time. (2) In the rabbit liver, after LITT at 3 W for 3 min and more, the coagulation area with length greater than or equal to 1.2 cm, and width greater than or equal to 1.0 cm, was found. Similar coagulation area was seen in the implanted VX2 carcinoma at 3 W for 5 min. (3) Gross examination of the liver and carcinoma showed three distinct regions: ablation cra- ter/carbonization, coagulation and congestion distributed from the center outwards. (4) Microscopy re- vealed four zones after LITT, including ablation crater/carbonization, coagulation, edema and conges- tion from the center outwards. A large area with coagulative necrosis was observed around a vessel in the peripheral area with edema and hyperemia. (5) The size of coagulation was consistent well to the CEUS findings. It was concluded that EchoLaser system at low power can produce a coagulation area larger than 1.0 cm×1.0 cm during a short time period. The real-time US imaging can be used to effec- tively guide and assess the treatment.
文摘AIM: To compare the hemostatic efficacy between epinephrine injection alone and epinephrine injection combined with thermotherapy for delayed postendoscopic sphincterotomy (ES) bleeding. METHODS: Cases with delayed post-ES bleeding undergoing epinephrine injection alone (epinephrine injection group, n = 26) or epinephrine combined with thermotherapy (combination therapy group, n = 33) in our institution between 1999 and 2007 were retrospectively investigated. The main outcome measurements were: initial endoscopic hemostasis, rebleeding, complications, requirement of angiographic embolization or surgery, requirement for blood transfusion, and mortality. RESULTS: The initial hemostatic efficacy was 96.2% for epinephrine injection alone and 100% for combination therapy (P = 0.44). There were four patients with re-bleeding in each group (16.0% vs 12.1%, P = 0.72). There was only one complication of pancreatitis from the combination therapy group. Three patients (11.5%) in the epinephrine injection group and one patient (3%) in the combination therapy group required angiographic embolization or surgery (P = 0.31). The total number of blood transfusions was not significantly different between the two groups (3.5 ± 4.6 U vs 3.5 ± 4.5 U, P = 0.94). There was no bleeding-related death in either group. CONCLUSION: Epinephrine injection alone is as effective as epinephrine injection combined with thermotherapy for the management of delayed post- ES bleeding.

文摘The detrimental effects of Huanglongbing(HLB)on citrus are well known and so is the need for effective methods to combat this disease.Solar thermotherapy(ST),one of the management methods to help alleviate some of the negative effects of HLB,is the process of heating trees to therapeutic temperatures by encompassing the tree within a plastic structure(Visqueen)to harness the sun’s natural energy.ST was applied to mature‘Valencia’citrus trees in three locations.Tree vigor,yield,and Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus(Las)titer in leaves were monitored for two consecutive seasons post ST treatment,while fruit and juice quality were evaluated at the end of the second season.ST promoted an increase in canopy density in most groves tested and did not have a significant effect on fruit quantity,despite the prolonged exposure of the trees to increased temperatures.Moreover,Las titer was reduced in both leaves and juice processed from affected trees post ST.With respect to fruit quality,the ratio of total soluble solids to titratable acidity was higher post ST compared to controls as was the sucrose content of the juice in most treated groves,whereas limonin was higher in juice from control trees.Principal components analysis of aroma volatiles showed significant differences between juice from treated versus control trees with volatiles imparting top-note and freshness to orange juice,such as acetaldehyde,hexanal,Z-3-hexenol and linalool,being higher in juice fromtreated trees.Taste panels confirmed that flavor differences existed,ultimately showing that ST resulted in improved juice flavor in well-managed groves.Although the effects of ST on the trees appear temporary,such outcomes emphasize its utility when used as part of an integrated management strategy for HLB-affected citrus,imparting beneficial horticultural responses with minimal to positive effects on subsequent juice flavor.

文摘AIM:To investigate the role of c-Jun N-terminal kinase(JNK) in thermotherapy-induced apoptosis in human gastric cancer SGC-7901 cells.METHODS:Human gastric cancer SGC-7901 cells were cultured in vitro.Following thermotherapy at 43 ℃ for 0,0.5,1,2 or 3 h,the cells were cultured for a further 24 h with or without the JNK specific inhibitor,SP600125 for 2 h.Apoptosis was evaluated by immunohistochemistry [terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling(TUNEL)] and flow cytometry(Annexin vs propidium iodide).Cell proliferation was determined by 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide.The production of p-JNK,Bcl-2,Bax and caspase-3 proteins was evaluated by Western blotting.The expression of JNK at mRNA level was determined by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction.RESULTS:The proliferation of gastric carcinoma SGC-7901 cells was significantly inhibited following thermotherapy,and was 32.7%,30.6%,43.8% and 52.9% at 0.5,1,2 and 3 h post-thermotherapy,respectively.Flow cytometry analysis revealed an increased population of SGC790l cells in G0/G1 phase,but a reduced population in S phase following thermotherapy for 1 or 2 h,compared to untreated cells(P < 0.05).The increased number of SGC-790l cells in G0/G1 phase was consistent with induced apoptosis(flow cytometry) following thermotherapy for 0.5,1,2 or 3 h,compared to the untreated group(46.5% ± 0.23%,39.9% ± 0.53%,56.6% ± 0.35% and 50.4% ± 0.29% vs 7.3% ± 0.10%,P < 0.01),respectively.This was supported by the TUNEL assay(48.2% ± 0.4%,40.1% ± 0.2%,61.2% ± 0.29% and 52.0% ± 0.42% vs 12.2% ± 0.22%,P < 0.01) respectively.More importantly,the expression of p-JNK protein and JNK mRNA levels were significantly higher at 0.5 h than at 0 h post-treatment(P < 0.01),and peaked at 2 h.A similar pattern was detected for Bax and caspase-3 proteins.Bcl-2 increased at 0.5 h,peaked at 1 h,and then decreased.Furthermore,the JNK specific inhibitor,SP600125,suppressed p-JNK,Bax and caspase-3 at the protein level in SGC790l cells following thermotherapy,compared to mock-inhibitor treatment,which was in line with the decreased rate of apoptosis.The expression of Bcl-2 was consistent with thermotherapy alone.CONCLUSION:Thermotherapy induced apoptosis in gastric cancer cells by promoting p-JNK at the mRNA and protein levels,and up-regulated the expression of Bax and caspase-3 proteins.Bcl-2 may play a protective role during thermotherapy.Activation of JNK via the Bax-caspase-3 pathway may be important in thermotherapy-induced apoptosis in gastric cancer cells.
文摘The influence of heat source by laser irradiating on tissue temperature was simulated with the Ansys program, and the distribution of tissue temperature under the heat source was shown. Compared with others, the simulation method with aasys program is more intuitionistic and can offer very good reference for Laser-induced iaterstitial thermotherapy.

文摘Vitis vinifera 87-1 plants infected by grapevine fleck virus(GFkV) and grapevine rupestris stem pitting-associated virus(GRSPaV) were used as the plant materials for virus elimination treatment. This study evaluated the effects of ribavirin at different concentrations(15 and 25 μg mL^(–1);R15 and R25, respectively), thermotherapy(37°C;T), and the combination of ribavirin and thermotherapy(R15+T and R25+T) on eliminating viruses from grapevine plants in vitro. Both R15 and R25 had phytotoxic effects and weakened plant growth. Thermotherapy positively affected the growth of grapevine plants. Plant height was significantly greater in T, R15+T, and R25+T than in CK, R15 and R25. The proportion of dead plants after T, R15+T, and R25+T was 51.4, 11.4, and 8.6%, respectively. The survival rates of regenerated plants after all treatments were >68.0%. Ribavirin concentration and treatment time were related to the regeneration of shoot tips and elimination efficiencies of the two viruses. The survival rates of plants after R15+T for 30, 40, and 50 days were 97.3, 90.7, and 74.4%, respectively. The elimination rates of GRSPaV from plants in the three time quantum were 55.6, 84.6, and 93.8%, respectively. The elimination rate of GFkV was 23.9% higher in R25(35/44) than in R15(25/45), and that of GRSPaV was 7.0% higher in R25 than in R15. The combination of thermotherapy and chemotherapy was found to have a positive effect on the eradication of GFkV and GRSPaV, and R25+T for 50 days was able to completely eliminate the two viruses from in vitro grapevines.

文摘Objective To study the effect of fundus pigment on the response of the retina to transpupillary thermotherapy (TTT). Methods The retina were irradiated with 810 nm diode laser in 16 eyes of 8 pigmented rabbits and 12 eyes of 6 albino rabbits. The spot size was 1.2 mm; the duration was 60 s; and powers were 50, 80, 150 and 300 mW for pigmented rabbits and 800, 1 200 and 1 500mW for albino rabbits. All of the eyes were followed up with ophthalmolscope. The fundus was photographed and examined histologically with optic microscope immediately and 1 month after TTT respectively. Results The changes of the fundus and the histological examination were not significant immediately and 1 month after TTT in 50 mW group of pigmented rabbit and 800 mW of albino rabbit. Grey spot on the retina was observed on the fundus in 80 mW group of pigmented rabbit and 1 200 mW of albino rabbit immediately after TTT. The structure of the retina remained intact and subretinal fluid was observed histologically. Grey spot was still visible on the fundus, though the fluid was absorbed after 1 month. As the power of diode laser was increased to 150 mW for pigmented rabbits and 1500 mW for albino rabbit, fundus white spots were observed and the outer retina was destroyed while photoreceptors existed immediately after TTT. Pigmentation was found in white lesions and the fibrous proliferation was found in choroid 1 month after TTT. Prominent white spot was seen on the fundus immediately after laser irradiation of 300 mW in pigmented rabbits and the structure of the retina was obscured. One month after TTT, dense pigmentation appeared at laser lesions. The retina was thinner. There was prominent fibrous proliferation in the choroid. Conclusion The fundus pigment seems to play an important role in the response of the retina to TTT. The reaction of the retina is in proportion to the intensity of laser.

文摘Thermal ablation procedures,such as high intensity focused ultrasound and radiofrequency ablation,are often used to eliminate tumors by minimally invasively heating a focal region.For this task,real-time 3D temperature visualization is key to target the diseased tissues while minimizing damage to the surroundings.Current computed tomography(CT)thermometry is based on energy-integrated CT,tissue-specific experimental data,and linear relationships between attenuation and temperature.In this paper,we develop a novel approach using photon-counting CT for material decomposition and a neural network to predict temperature based on thermal characteristics of base materials and spectral tomographic measurements of a volume of interest.In our feasibility study,distilled water,50 mmol/L CaCl2,and 600 mmol/L CaCl2 are chosen as the base materials.Their attenuations are measured in four discrete energy bins at various temperatures.The neural network trained on the experimental data achieves a mean absolute error of 3.97°C and 1.80°C on 300 mmol/L CaCl2 and a milk-based protein shake respectively.These experimental results indicate that our approach is promising for handling non-linear thermal properties for materials that are similar or dis-similar to our base materials.
文摘The present work proposed a simple model for breast cancer hyperthermia treatment at 2.45 GHz. The proposed model involves nine-element antennas alongside a numerical breast comprising multiple tumors. Using a coupled EM-Thermal simulation in the CST suite, the simulated results for a single antenna showed a reflection coefficient (S<sub>11</sub>) better than -47 dB and demonstrated a bandwidth of 78 MHz. The specific absorption rate (SAR) as a function of input powers was examined inside the breast tissues, where it exhibited a promising performance higher than 3 W/kg at the tumor volume when the applied power was at a reasonable level of 1.5 W whereas it was well attained under the recommend IEEE level of 1.6 W/kg through the surrounded health tissues. Taking into consideration nine-element antennas covering the breast containing two different located tumors, the maximum temperature as a function of treatment time was presented at which a resulting temperature of 43°C was obtainable within 10 minutes, favored for hyperthermia purposes. Considering the maximum power level of 1.5 W, the potential use of applying three-element antennas, simultaneously with 0.5 W, could be achieved.

文摘Flexible heaters with personal thermal management capabilities have great potential in thermal therapy applications due to their excellent flexibility, low power consumption, and portability. However, manufacturing wearable heating devices that are breathable, wear resistant and conformal for long-term use is still challenging. To address these issues, we designed a leather heater using breathable, biocompatible, and tailorable leather as the substrate through a simple in-situ polymerization polypyrrole strategy. This heater exhibits excellent heating and mechanical properties(reaching 64℃ at a voltage of 5 V with efficient Joule heat generation of 2286 W/m^(2)and uniform temperature distribution, and functioning properly after 1000 cycles of bendability tests). In addition, this heater displays better wear resistance and water vapor permeability rate(38.04 g/(m^(2)h)). The cuttable and sewable of leather gives the strategy ability to be flexibly designed to mold the heater to the specific requirements of different body parts, providing a new approach to wearable thermal therapy.
