Modeling TCP Incast Issue in Data Center Networks and an Adaptive Application-Layer Solution

In data centers, the transmission control protocol(TCP) incast causes catastrophic goodput degradation to applications with a many-to-one traffic pattern. In this paper, we intend to tame incast at the receiver-side application. Towards this goal, we first develop an analytical model that formulates the incast probability as a function of connection variables and network environment settings. We combine the model with the optimization theory and derive some insights into minimizing the incast probability through tuning connection variables related to applications. Then,enlightened by the analytical results, we propose an adaptive application-layer solution to the TCP incast.The solution equally allocates advertised windows to concurrent connections, and dynamically adapts the number of concurrent connections to the varying conditions. Simulation results show that our solution consistently eludes incast and achieves high goodput in various scenarios including the ones with multiple bottleneck links and background TCP traffic. 展开更多

Such a growing trend of software promotes soft-ware development to go beyond a general understanding and control and thus a complex system is formed. It is necessary to strengthen the research of complex network theory, and this is a new way to help people study the complexity of software systems. In this paper, the development course of complex dynamic network is introduced simply and the use of complex power network in the software engineering is summarized. In this paper, a new model is constructed for the causation analysis of railway accident based on the complex network theory. In the model, the nodes are defined as various manifest or latent accident causal factors. By employing the complex network theory, especially its statistical indicators, the railway accident as well as its key causations can be analyzed from the overall perspective. As a case, the "7.23" China-Yongwen railway accident is illustrated based on this model. The results show that the inspection of signals and the checking of line conditions before trains run played an important role in this railway accident. In conclusion, the constructed model gives a theoretical clue for railway accident prediction and, hence, greatly reduces the occurrence of railway accidents. 展开更多

Finally, the model presented that a real interconnection of transportation would be achieved based on the unified information collection. 苏里格气田作为我国内陆最大的整装气田,随着天然气不断开采,地层压力逐渐降低,采气工艺技术的革新与集气管网布局的优化成为延续气田生产寿命的核心问题。该气田通过井下节流工艺有效利用地温热能解决了水合物堵塞问题;新型锁芯式井下... 苏里格气田作为我国内陆最大的整装气田,随着天然气不断开采,地层压力逐渐降低,采气工艺技术的革新与集气管网布局的优化成为延续气田生产寿命的核心问题。该气田通过井下节流工艺有效利用地温热能解决了水合物堵塞问题;新型锁芯式井下节流器一次打捞成功率在90%以上;布井方案采用单井串接工艺,缩短了采气管线长度;减少运行管理费用投入,使建设投资额降低约48.8%。梳理了近年来管网模型研究的发展动态,指出不同方法的优缺点,并以苏里格气田采气量增加30%的背景下,展示了骨架管网水力计算模型的建立过程和模拟软件算法流程,利用TGNET软件模拟管网压降幅度,从而有效抑制水合物生成并避免经济损失。针对集输管网适用性评价进行讨论,指出了生产工况变化对管网运行效率的影响,以及建立水力计算模型对于预测和避免潜在风险的必要性。 展开更多

Aimed at the characteristics of permafrost temperature influencing the safety of Qinghai-Tibet Railway and its on-line testing system, comparing the achievement of permafrost study nationwide with those worldwide, an automatic testing system of permafrost temperature, containing a master computer and some slave computers, was designed. By choosing high-precise thermistors as temperature sensor, designing and positioning the depth and interval of testing sections, testing, keeping and sending permafrost temperature data at time over slave computers, and receiving, processing and analyzing the data of collecting permafrost temperature over master computer, the change of the permafrost temperature can be described and analyzed, which can provide information for permafrost railway engineering design. Moreover, by taking permafrost temperature testing in a certain section of Qinghai-Tibet Railway as an instance, the collected data of permafrost temperature were analyzed, and the effect of permafrost behavior was depicted under the railway, as well as, a BP model was set up to predict the permafrost characteristics. The application collaboration was addressed to provide energy-efficient data services for distributed sensing applications to collaboratively interacting to achieve a desired global objective not detectable by any single cluster. An epoch-based transaction model was proposed by using the concept of sphere of control (SoC), and a collaborative sensing application can be dynamically formed as a nested architecture composed of time-synchronized applications. By loosening the rigid constraints of ACID to adapt the requirements of sensor networks, the submission, rollback and consistency rules ware educed and a two-phrase submission protocol was designed. Finally, it was illustrated that the model is capable of providing an adaptive formal template for sensing application collaboration. Our performance evaluations show that by applying the two-phrase submission protocol, we can significantly improve the number of reported answers and response time, raise resource utilization, and reduce the energy cansumption and data loss. 展开更多

While it provides a simplified identification and authentication function to users across multiple applications, it also opens the users to a new spectrum of privacy threats. The privacy breaches costs to the users as well as tothe OSN. Despite paying millions of dollars as fine every year, the OSN hasnot done any significant changes, as data is the fuel and what it loses as fine isfar less compared to the money OSN makes out of the shared data. In this work,we have discussed a wide range of possible privacy threats and solutions prevailing in OSN-Third Party Application (TPA) data sharing scenario.
