The growth of rape seedlings exposed to two levels of UV-B irradiation (0.15 and 0.35 W· m^-2/T2) was both heavily restrained. The aboveground growth indices including stem (plant) height, leaf number, leaf area, leaf fresh/dry weight and stem fresh/dry weight were obviously decreased by 13.2% - 44.1% (T1) and 21 .4% - 49.3% (T2). Compared to CK, and except active absorption area of roots, the belowground indices main root length, root volume and fresh/dry weight by 14.1% -35.6% (T1) and 20.3% - 42.6% (T2), respectively. For Ce + UV-B treatments, the aboveground and belowground growth indices were decreased by 4.1% - 23.6%, 5.2% -23.3% (Ce+T1) and 10.8% -28.4%, 7.0% -27.8% (Ce +T2), lower than those of UV-B treatments mentioned above. These results show that Ce has protective effect on plant against injury of UV-B radiation. Furthermore, the protective effect of Ce on seedlings exposed to T1 level of UV-B radiation is superior to T2 level. Chlorophyll content, net photosynthesis rate, transpiration rate, stomatal conductance and water use efficiency in UV-B treatments decrease dramatically, whereas intercellular CO2 concentration increases. Although these indices in Ce + UV-B treatments decrease compared with those of CK, the decrease in Ce + UV-B treatments are lower than those in UV-B treatment. This phenomenon indicates that the ecophysiological protective effect of Ce is based on improving photosynthesis in plants. The dynamic curves of photosynthesis indices show that the course of light-repair is shortened and the injury to rape seedlings by UV-B radiation stress is alleviated by Ce.展开更多

The results show that cerium and ultrasonic irradiation can evidently raise the depositing speed of electroless Co-Ni-B alloy. The cerium content of electroless Co-Ni-B-Ce alloy coating also increases after ultrasonic irradiation applied to electroless Co-Ni-B plating process. Under the action of ultrasonic irradiation and rare metal cerium, the chemical composition of electroless Co-Ni-B alloy coating is changed. Electroless Co-Ni-B alloy with amorphous structure is transformed to electroless Co-Ni-B-Ce alloy with microcrystalline in general state and electroless Co-Ni-B-Ce alloy with crystalline structure in ultrasonic irradiation. In this way microhardness of the coatings increases remarkably.展开更多

The study was carried out using a sample of sulfuric liquor obtained from the leaching of monazite rich in light rare earth elements (La, Ce, Pr, Nd) provided by INB (Indústrias Nucleares do Brasil S.A.). Experiments were carried out in chloridric, nitric and sulfuric media. The nitric and hydrochloric solutions were prepared by precipitation of the REE from the sulfuric liquor as rare earths oxalate, calcining the precipitate and dissolving it with nitric or hydrochloric acid. The separation of cerium was investigated in its trivalent and tetravalent forms. The parameters investigated were: type and concentration of extractant, type and amount of the oxidizing agent, liquor acidity, and volumetric ratio between organic and aqueous phases. The preference of the organic phase to extract cerium in its oxidized form (IV) over the other rare earths elements was confirmed, allowing the obtainment of a high purity cerium solution. The best results were achieved in nitric medium, with cerium in its tetravalent form, using cationic extractants (P507 or D2EHPA) and a mixture of potassium persulfate and silver chloride as oxidizing agents, yielding over 99% of cerium extraction with over 99% of purity.展开更多

Titanium tetrapropoxide and vanadium pentoxide were used as precursor of the composite catalyst and rare earth ions were used as dopant. The crystal phases, crystalline sizes, microstructure, absorption spectra of doped composite catalyst were studied by XRD, EDS, FT-IR and UV-Vis. Photoactivity of the prepared catalyst under ultraviolet irradiation were evaluated by degradation of methyl orange (MO) in aqueous solution. It is shown that the prepared catalyst is composed of anatase and futile. The rare earth ions are highly dispersed in composite catalyst. All the doped catalysts appear higher photocatalytic activity than TiO2/V2O5 catalyst and catalyst doped with Ce^4+ present the best activity to MO.展开更多

The effect of nitric acid concentration (0.5~6 mol·L^-1) and temperature (278 ~318 K) on Ce( Ⅳ ) sorption efficiency was investigated. Sorption increased with increasing nitric acid concentration, indicating that [Ce(NO3)6]^2- complex is the main adsorbed Ce(Ⅳ) species. Oxidation of sorbents by adsorbed Ce ( Ⅳ ) species resulting in Ce ( Ⅲ ) release to the solution was observed. Pyridine based anion exchangers exhibited higher oxidation stability compared to the commercial strong base anion exchanger. Ce( Ⅳ ) reduction was temperature dependent and obeyed pseudo-first-order reaction kinetics. Column separation of Ce ( Ⅳ ) from La ( Ⅲ ) and Y ( Ⅲ ) was carried out from 6 mol·L^-1 nitric acid with PVP based anion exchanger. Reasonable Ce (Ⅳ) breakthrough capacity (0.7 mol·kg^-1 PVP) was achieved. No remarkable decrease of capacity was observed within 3 consequent runs. In contrast, Ce (Ⅲ) leakage due to reduction decreased and breakthrough capacity slightly increased. This effect was more pronounced with increasing temperature. Regeneration with 0.1 mol·L^- 1 nitric acid was successful (recovery 100% ± 4% ) and Ce solution of high purity ( 〉 99.97% ) with respect to La and Y content was gained.展开更多
