The present study was designed to determine whether the pretreatment of chrysotile asbestos fibers (CAF) with rare earth compounds (REC) solution can reduce their pathogenicity. The results showed that REC-pretreated CAF induced less nitrogen oxide (NO) production by alveolar macrophages (AM). In addition, the pretreatment lowered the capacity of hemolysis and the methylene blue (MB) adsorption of the native CAF. These findings suggested that the pretreatment of CAF with REC solution reduced the in vitro toxicity of CAF by lessening its surface charges. Nevertheless, the pathogenicity and the carcinogenicity of REC-pretreated CAF in vivo remain to be investigated.展开更多

The blocky compounds in these alloys were identified as rare earth compounds, (Cr, Ti)2 RE (Al, X)20 (X is magnesium, copper and zinc),body-centred cubic, with 184 atoms to the unit cell , lattice parameter 1.453 ̄1. 458 nm, Vickers hardness 4000 ̄5600 MPa and calculated density 3400 kg/m3. The results show that the amount of blocky compounds in the alloys decreases with decreasing of Ti and Cr content or with increasing of cooling rate during solidification.展开更多

Separate and simultaneous remo...CeO2/γ-Al2O3, La203/γ-Al2O3, CeO2-La203/γ-Al2O3 and CeO2-La2O3, which were prepared by impregnating in certain ratio, were used as the catalysts for the reduction of SO2 and NO by CO. Separate and simultaneous removal of SO2 and NO over LaEO3/γ-Al2O3, CeOE/γ-Al2O3, CeOE-LaEO3/γ-Al2O3 were investigated. The phase characteristics of catalysts were also analyzed by X-ray diffraction. The result shows that the conversions of SO2 and NO are above 98 % over CeOE/γ-Al2O3 and CeOE-LaEO3/γ-Al2O3. After SO2 is added in the NO-CO-N2 system (NO :SO2 = 1:2 - 1 : 3), the conversions of SO2 and NO are both above 98%. Furthermore, it is found that CeO2-La2O3 with various ratios has different activity for the simultaneous reduction of SO2 and NO.展开更多
The magnetocaloric effect (MCE) in many rare earth (RE) based intermetallic compounds has been extensively in- vestigated during the last two decades, not only due to their potential applications for magnetic refr...The magnetocaloric effect (MCE) in many rare earth (RE) based intermetallic compounds has been extensively in- vestigated during the last two decades, not only due to their potential applications for magnetic refrigeration but also for better understanding of the fundamental problems of the materials. This paper reviews our recent progress on studying the magnetic properties and MCE in some binary or ternary intermetallic compounds of RE with low boiling point metal(s) (Zn, Mg, and Cd). Some of them exhibit promising MCE properties, which make them attractive for low temperature magnetic refrigeration. Characteristics of the magnetic transition, origin of large MCE, as well as the potential application of these compounds are thoroughly discussed. Additionally, a brief review of the magnetic and magnetocaloric properties in the quaternary rare earth nickel boroncarbides RENi2B2C superconductors is also presented.展开更多

The application of RE elements in advanced materials have progressed significantly during the past years. The wide range of rare earth application in China has been reviewed and discussed in this paper, including the development of advanced RE materials (RE-Al alloys, rare earth nonferrous metal alloys, rare earth luminescent materials, rare earth hydrogen storage materials, rare earth permanent magnet and rare earth compounds used in agriculture, i.e., rare earth micronutrient fertilizer etc.) End the research of new RE materials (high T-c rare earth superconductor, rare earth electronic and photonic materials, rare earth ceramics and rare earth precious metal alloys). The alloys were nanocrystalline multi-phase structures composed of LaNi3 phase and LaNi5 phase by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy analyses, and the suitable absorption/desorption plateau was revealed by the measurement of P-C-I curve. Electrochemical studies indicate that the alloys exhibit good electrochemical properties such as high capacity and stable cycle life, and the discharge capacity is 369 mAh·g-1 at 0.2 C (72 mA·g-1). after 460 cycles, the capacity decay was only 19.4% at 2 C (720 mA·g-1).展开更多

The powder X-ray diffraction patterns of LaFell.sSil.5 compounds annealed at different high temperatures from 1323 K (5 h) to 1623 K (2 h) show that a large amount of 1:13 phase begins to form in LaFell.sSiL5 com...The powder X-ray diffraction patterns of LaFell.sSil.5 compounds annealed at different high temperatures from 1323 K (5 h) to 1623 K (2 h) show that a large amount of 1:13 phase begins to form in LaFell.sSiL5 compound annealed at 1423 K (5 h). In the temperature range from 1423 to 1523 K, ^-Fe and LaFeSi phases rapidly decrease to form 1:13 phase. LaFeSi phase is rarely observed, and the most amount of 1:13 phase is obtained in the compound annealed at 1523 K (5 h). With the annealing temperature increasing to 1573 and 1623 K, LaFeSi is detected again in the LaFell.sSil.s compound. According to the results of annealing at different high-temperatures, the Lal-xCexFelt.sSit.5 compounds are annealed at high temperatures of 1373 K (2 h) + 1523 K (5 h). The main phase is NaZn13-type phase, and the impurity is a small amount of et-Fe in Lal-xCexFexx.sSil.5 compounds with 0 〈 x 〈 0.35, and there is a large amount of CeaFe17 phase in Lao.sCeo.sFela.sSil.s. It indicates that the substitution of cerium atoms for La in LaFelLsSil.5 compounds has limit. At the same time, the substitution of Ce for La has large effect on magnetocaloric properties. With increasing Ce content from x = 0 to x = 0.35, the Curie temperature decreases linearly from 196 to 168 K, the magnetic entropy change increases from 16.5 to 57.3 J-kg-kK-1 in a low magnetic field change of 0-2 T, and the thermal hysteresis also increases from 3 K to 8 K.展开更多

It was found that the 1:13 phase was not formed directly from the melt upon cooling but via a peritectic reaction between the pro-peritectic γ-Fe and the La-rich phase. Annealing temperature was very important for the formation of 1:13 phase. Ice water was confirmed to be a preferable quenching medium. La(Fe1-xCox)11.9Si1.1 (x=0.068) compounds with almost single 1:13 phase were obtained at 1473 K after 15 d.展开更多

The standard molar enthalpies of reaction for the following two reactions, LaCl37H2O(s)+3Ala(s)+Im(s)+3NaClO4(s)=[La(Ala)3(Im)(H2O)]- (ClO4)3(s)+3NaCl(s)+6H2O(l) (1) and NdCl36H2O(s)+2Ala(s)+Im(s)+3NaClO4(s)=[Nd(Ala)2(Im)(H2O)]- (ClO4)3(s)+3NaCl(s)+5H2O(l) (2), were determined by solution-reaction calorimetry, at T=298.15 K, as 36.168±0.642 kJmol-1 and 48.590±0.934 kJmol-1 respectively. From the results and other auxiliary quantities, the standard molar enthalpies of formation of [La(Ala)3(Im)(H2O)](ClO4)3(s) and [Nd(Ala)2(Im)(H2O)] (ClO4)3(s) were derived, fmHD!{[La(Ala)3(Im)(H2O)](ClO4)3, s}=(-2984.8±1.0) kJmol-1 and fmHD! {[Nd(Ala)2(Im)(H2O)]- (ClO4)3, s}=(-2387.8±0.8) kJmol-1 , respectively.展开更多
Gd2PdSi3 single crystals were grown by a vertical floating zone method with radiation heating at a zone traveling rate of 3 mm/h. The compound exhibited congruent melting behavior at a liquidus temperature of about 17...Gd2PdSi3 single crystals were grown by a vertical floating zone method with radiation heating at a zone traveling rate of 3 mm/h. The compound exhibited congruent melting behavior at a liquidus temperature of about 1700 °C. The slightly Pd-depleted composition of the crystal, with respect to the nominal Gd2PdSi3 stoichiometry, led to gradual accumulation of Pd in the traveling zone and to a decreasing operating temperature during the growth process. Thin platelet-like precipitates of a GdSi phase were detected in the stoichiometric feed rod growth crystal matrix which can be reduced by annealing treatment. Feed rod composition shift crystal growth was proved to be a better way of getting high quality of Gd2PdSi3 single crystal.展开更多

The measurement data indicate t...The dynamic performances of magneto-optical Bi-substituted rare-earth iron garnet (BIG) under different external magnetic fields and at different frequencies are experimentally studied. The measurement data indicate that the Faraday rotation angle is almost proportional to the external magnetic field when the garnet is far less saturated, while there is good switch performance when it is saturated. The higher the working frequency is, the larger the saturation magnetic field and the phase delay of Faraday angle relative to the field. The saturation fields and the phase delays at different frequencies are measured. The dynamic performance of the BIG determines the performance of BIG-based optical devices. To get the better performance of such devices, the garnets with small dampness and large stiffness should be chosen elaborately.展开更多

Their crystal structure and negative thermal expansion properties were studied using high-temperat...A new series of solid solutions Lu2W3-xMoxO12 (0.5≤r≤2.5) were successfully synthesized by the solid-state method. Their crystal structure and negative thermal expansion properties were studied using high-temperature X-ray powder diffraction and the Rietveld method. All samples of rare-earth ttmgstates and molybdates are found to crystallize in the same orthorhombic structure with space group Pnca and show the negative thermal expansion phenomena related to transverse vibration of bridging oxygen atoms in the structure. Thermal expansion coefficients (TEC) of Lu2W3_xMoxO12 are determined as -20.0× 10^-6 K^-1 for x=0.5 and -16.1×10^-6 K^-1 for x=2.5 but -18.6× 10^-6 and -16.9× 10^-6K^-1 for unsubstituted Lu2W3012 and Lu2M03012 in the identical temperature range of 200 to 800℃. High-temperature X-ray diffraction (XRD) data and bond length analysis suggest that the difference between W-O and Mo-O bond is responsible for the change of TECs after the element substitution in this series of solid solutions.展开更多

The hydrothermally synthesized powders have a petal-like morphology self-structured by the parallel side-by-side arrangement of the nano-scales. 文摘In this paper,a new rare earth benzoate coordination compound,[TbL_3(HL)(H_2O)]_2 (HL=C_7H_6O_2=benzoic acid) is synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis DTA,TG,DTC,and IR spectra.The title compound crystallizes in triclinic,space.group P with a=9.148(1),b=11.460(2), c=13.506(2);α=112.76(1),β=91.83(1),γ=91.99(1)°;Z=1;V=1303.3.The final R factor is 0.0235.The rare earth ion is nine-coordinated to form a distorted monocapped square antiprism.

文摘The powder X-ray diffraction patterns of LaFell.sSil.5 compounds annealed at different high temperatures from 1323 K (5 h) to 1623 K (2 h) show that a large amount of 1:13 phase begins to form in LaFell.sSiL5 compound annealed at 1423 K (5 h). In the temperature range from 1423 to 1523 K, ^-Fe and LaFeSi phases rapidly decrease to form 1:13 phase. LaFeSi phase is rarely observed, and the most amount of 1:13 phase is obtained in the compound annealed at 1523 K (5 h). With the annealing temperature increasing to 1573 and 1623 K, LaFeSi is detected again in the LaFell.sSil.s compound. According to the results of annealing at different high-temperatures, the Lal-xCexFelt.sSit.5 compounds are annealed at high temperatures of 1373 K (2 h) + 1523 K (5 h). The main phase is NaZn13-type phase, and the impurity is a small amount of et-Fe in Lal-xCexFexx.sSil.5 compounds with 0 〈 x 〈 0.35, and there is a large amount of CeaFe17 phase in Lao.sCeo.sFela.sSil.s. It indicates that the substitution of cerium atoms for La in LaFelLsSil.5 compounds has limit. At the same time, the substitution of Ce for La has large effect on magnetocaloric properties. With increasing Ce content from x = 0 to x = 0.35, the Curie temperature decreases linearly from 196 to 168 K, the magnetic entropy change increases from 16.5 to 57.3 J-kg-kK-1 in a low magnetic field change of 0-2 T, and the thermal hysteresis also increases from 3 K to 8 K.

文摘The effects of different annealing conditions on the phase formation with NaZn13 structure were investigated in La(Fe1-xCox)11.9Si1.1 (x=0.068) compounds. It was found that the 1:13 phase was not formed directly from the melt upon cooling but via a peritectic reaction between the pro-peritectic γ-Fe and the La-rich phase. Annealing temperature was very important for the formation of 1:13 phase. Ice water was confirmed to be a preferable quenching medium. La(Fe1-xCox)11.9Si1.1 (x=0.068) compounds with almost single 1:13 phase were obtained at 1473 K after 15 d.

文摘Two coordination compounds of rare earth perchlorates with alanine and imidazole, [RE(Ala)n(Im)(H2O)]- (ClO4)3(s) (RE=La, n=3; RE=Nd, n=2), have been prepared and characterized. The standard molar enthalpies of reaction for the following two reactions, LaCl37H2O(s)+3Ala(s)+Im(s)+3NaClO4(s)=[La(Ala)3(Im)(H2O)]- (ClO4)3(s)+3NaCl(s)+6H2O(l) (1) and NdCl36H2O(s)+2Ala(s)+Im(s)+3NaClO4(s)=[Nd(Ala)2(Im)(H2O)]- (ClO4)3(s)+3NaCl(s)+5H2O(l) (2), were determined by solution-reaction calorimetry, at T=298.15 K, as 36.168±0.642 kJmol-1 and 48.590±0.934 kJmol-1 respectively. From the results and other auxiliary quantities, the standard molar enthalpies of formation of [La(Ala)3(Im)(H2O)](ClO4)3(s) and [Nd(Ala)2(Im)(H2O)] (ClO4)3(s) were derived, fmHD!{[La(Ala)3(Im)(H2O)](ClO4)3, s}=(-2984.8±1.0) kJmol-1 and fmHD! {[Nd(Ala)2(Im)(H2O)]- (ClO4)3, s}=(-2387.8±0.8) kJmol-1 , respectively.

文摘Gd2PdSi3 single crystals were grown by a vertical floating zone method with radiation heating at a zone traveling rate of 3 mm/h. The compound exhibited congruent melting behavior at a liquidus temperature of about 1700 °C. The slightly Pd-depleted composition of the crystal, with respect to the nominal Gd2PdSi3 stoichiometry, led to gradual accumulation of Pd in the traveling zone and to a decreasing operating temperature during the growth process. Thin platelet-like precipitates of a GdSi phase were detected in the stoichiometric feed rod growth crystal matrix which can be reduced by annealing treatment. Feed rod composition shift crystal growth was proved to be a better way of getting high quality of Gd2PdSi3 single crystal.

文摘Floating zone method with optical radiation heating was applied to growing a class of R2PdSi3(R=Pr,Tb and Gd) single crystals due to its containerless melting and high stability of the floating zone.One serious problem during the single crystal growth,precipitates of secondary phases,was discussed from the following four parts:precipitates from the raw materials and preparation process,precipitates formed during the growing process,precipitates in the melts and precipitates in the grown crystals.Annealing treatment and composition shift can effectively reduce the precipitates which are not formed during the crystallization but precipitated on post-solidification cooling from the as-grown crystal matrix because of the retrograde solubility of Si.
文摘The dynamic performances of magneto-optical Bi-substituted rare-earth iron garnet (BIG) under different external magnetic fields and at different frequencies are experimentally studied. The measurement data indicate that the Faraday rotation angle is almost proportional to the external magnetic field when the garnet is far less saturated, while there is good switch performance when it is saturated. The higher the working frequency is, the larger the saturation magnetic field and the phase delay of Faraday angle relative to the field. The saturation fields and the phase delays at different frequencies are measured. The dynamic performance of the BIG determines the performance of BIG-based optical devices. To get the better performance of such devices, the garnets with small dampness and large stiffness should be chosen elaborately.

文摘A new series of solid solutions Lu2W3-xMoxO12 (0.5≤r≤2.5) were successfully synthesized by the solid-state method. Their crystal structure and negative thermal expansion properties were studied using high-temperature X-ray powder diffraction and the Rietveld method. All samples of rare-earth ttmgstates and molybdates are found to crystallize in the same orthorhombic structure with space group Pnca and show the negative thermal expansion phenomena related to transverse vibration of bridging oxygen atoms in the structure. Thermal expansion coefficients (TEC) of Lu2W3_xMoxO12 are determined as -20.0× 10^-6 K^-1 for x=0.5 and -16.1×10^-6 K^-1 for x=2.5 but -18.6× 10^-6 and -16.9× 10^-6K^-1 for unsubstituted Lu2W3012 and Lu2M03012 in the identical temperature range of 200 to 800℃. High-temperature X-ray diffraction (XRD) data and bond length analysis suggest that the difference between W-O and Mo-O bond is responsible for the change of TECs after the element substitution in this series of solid solutions.
文摘Nanostructural monophase LaxBi2-xSeyTe3-y alloy was synthesized with a hydrothermal route using BiCl3, LaCl3, selenium and tellurium powders as the precursors, NaOH and disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetiate (EDTA) as the additives. The hydrothermally synthesized powders have a petal-like morphology self-structured by the parallel side-by-side arrangement of the nano-scales. It is found that an alkaline additive is necessary for the synthesis of a monophase Bi2Te3 based alloy.
