In this work the rare earth metals were prepared by electrolysis of the oxide in molten salt for Nd metal and metallothermic reduction of the fluorides for Gd, Tb, Dy metals. After vacuum refining and distillation purification these rare earth metals were used for manufacturing the element targets, mosaic targets and as the starting materials of preparing the rare earth-transition metal (RE-TM) alloy targets. The four kinds of Dy-FeCo, NdDy-FeCo, Tb-FeCo and GdTb-FeCo alloy targets with diameter of 100 mm and thickness of 3 mm were prepared using powder metallurgical technique. The oxygen content and microstructure of the prepared RE-TM cast alloys and sintered targets were analyzed. The features and requirements of the RE-TM alloy sputtering target materials were also discussed.展开更多

Combined with iterative target transformation factor analysis, single rare earth element was determined in its mixture. The calculated results show that the average angle between rare earth spectra in one color system(trichloroarsenazorare earths, pH 34) is 45, and that in two color systems(trichloroarsenazorare earths, pH 34, 14) is 215. This technique makes it easy to select the real number of the components in mixtures, and the determination results show dualcolor system method is an effective technique in rare earth mixture analysis.展开更多

During the early and late Yanshanian epoch (corresponding respectively to the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods), two centers of ore formation emerged successively in the Nanling region; the former is mainly for rare metals (W, Sn, Mo, Bi, Nb) and one rare-earth element (La) and was generated in the Jurassic period; whereas the latter is mainly for base metals (Cu, Pb, Zn, Sb, Hg), noble metals (Au, Ag), and one radioactive element (U) and was generated in the Cretaceous period. Centers of ore formation were brought about by interface dynamics respectively at the Qitianling and Jiuyishan districts in southern Hunan Province. The characteristic giant nonlinear target-pattern regional ore zonality was generated by spatio-temporal synchronization process of the Nanling complex metallogenic system. It induced the collective dynamics and cooperative behavior of the system and displayed the configuration of the regional ore zonality. Then dynamical clustering transformed the configuration into rudimentary ordered coherent structures. Phase dynamics eventually defined the spatio-temporal structures of the target-pattern regional ore zonality and determined their localization and distribution. A new methodology for revealing regional ore zonality is developed, which will encourage further investigation of the formation of deep-seated ore resources and the onset of large-scale mineralization.展开更多

XRD patterns showed that the main components of the target were barium tetra aluminum sulfide (BaAl4S7), bariutm sulfide (BaS), and europium sulfide (EuS). In the samples, part of the barium and aluminum are formed into barium aluminum oxide (BaAl2O4) with the impurity element of oxygen. The PL characteristic spectra of the target showed the 470 nm blue emission obviously, and the Ba-Al-S thin films also transmitted a purple-blue emission at the position of 440 nm.The results indicated that this method was suitable for the fabrication of the Ba-Al-S:Eu sputtering target.展开更多

The migration of REE from weathering rocks to the environment is accelerated by various anthropogenic activities, which can eventually result in the entrance of REE into animal and human bodies via food chain. REE can be found in body tissues such as brain, blood, muscle as well as bone. Based on their geochemical properties, REE in low dose show their unique biological intelligence by intervening in the process of signal transduction and its regulation, arteriosclerosis and blood clotting prevention, anticancer, and the promotion of cellular defense enzymes′ activities, nucleic acid metabolism enzymes as well as ATPases, etc. The meaning of REE′s biological intelligence refers to physicochemical properties-based capability to choose the targets (e.g., biometals) in biomolecules for the chelation or replacement of REE, and change the structures and functions of biomolecules, and consequently impact or control the biological functions or behaviors in living organisms. The regulation of various cellular processes caused by REE is mainly via antagonism or replacement of essential target biometals like calcium or via chelation of organic molecules, thereby embodying the unparalleled biological intelligence of REE. Additionally, the dosage effect of REE was also discussed from the angles of yin-yang dichotomy, bioavailability, entropy and evolution. In order to make full use of REE′s biological intelligence in the application for medicine, more detailed studies concerning dosage effect of REE and REE bioaccumulation in organisms should be conducted in future research.展开更多
