Information Management: Knowledge, Emancipation, and Metaphysics in the 21st Century

This text is trying to discuss an approximation to the concept of human emancipation,as part of our well-being,in terms of Education and Knowledge.Without abandoning our metaphysical perception of wholeness,as an extension of the continuity principle which connects our conscious and unconscious world,emancipation is considered as a personal struggle against all oppressions.Some of these are grounded in our inner world.In accordance with the Enlightenment request,reasoning and knowledge can help us to structure new forms of acceptances which are shaping our own emancipatory meaning.Under the impact of social influence and personal interpretation,the perceived knowledge is considered as a mental tool containing an upgraded valid information.Taking under consideration that this validity is not able to overcome the metaphysical origins of human thought,it is suggested that when this mental tool is functioning in a self-transformative,self-constructed,and flexible form,human intelligence is structuring a compatible information management mechanism,which can enable us to formulate our personal acceptances,bridge our empirical and hyper-empirical inner world,and enlighten our request for self-criticism,self-determination,and above all emancipation.

Long-term follow-up result of short metaphyseal femoral stem in primary total hip arthroplasty:A retrospective study

BACKGROUND Total hip arthroplasty(THA)has increased along with an increasing demand for improved quality of life.Combined with prolonged life expectancy,the number of revision surgeries is expected to increase.Stress shielding is a significant issue with traditional femoral stems used in THA,making revision surgeries particularly challenging in younger patients.This has sparked renewed interest in studying safety and functional outcomes of short metaphyseal femoral stems,which have the potential to alleviate these challenges and simplify revision surgeries.AIM To evaluate the long-term outcomes of short-stem THA.METHODS A total of 124 hips that underwent THA using the short femoral stem(TRILOCK®Depuy)between May 2006 and November 2008 were included in this study.Patients were followed for a period of 15 years.Outcomes were assessed in terms of pain relief,hip joint range of motion,improvement in mobility,and functional outcomes using the modified Harris Hip Score,Oxford hip score,and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis index score.RESULTS A total of 124 hips in 98 patients were evaluated.Significant improvements in functional outcomes were observed over the 15-year follow-up period,with no cases of subsidence,implant loosening,or complications necessitating revision surgery.The only complication reported was heterotopic ossification in 1 patient.CONCLUSION Short metaphyseal stems provide better functional outcomes with early mobilization,and its long-term follow-up without subsidence,implant loosening,or proximal femoral bone loss simplifies revision surgery in younger patients.

Metaethics(后伦理学)与Metaphysics(后物理学)——粗议中西哲学之异同及中国有无哲学的问题

与西哲以metaphysics为核心相对应 ,中哲以metaethics为核心。在西哲中 ,metaphysics不仅为西方的物理学、自然科学 ,而且也为其伦理学提供哲学基础。在中哲中 ,metaethics不仅为中国的伦理道德作出了哲学的论证 ,而且使中国大哲在探讨物理问题时也染上浓重的伦理学色彩。由此也决定了西哲认识论是物理型的 ,中哲认识论是伦理型的。两者之差异在于 ,西哲认识世界是为了改造世界征服世界 ,中哲认识世界是为了改造自己征服自己。这进一步使中西哲学各有一套独特的方法论 :与西哲的逻辑学和方法论相应 ,中哲的方法论即功夫论。中西哲学尽管类型不同 ,但都是关于人生智慧的学问 ,因此都是哲学。

Metaphysics与形而上学

我们对metaphysics的理解已经远远背离了其"后物理学""元物理学"的本义,在今天,"形而上学"完全被异化为一个极具政治色彩的词语;但是作为一种哲学思维品质,metaphysics恰恰是中国人所缺乏的。在中国,这种缺乏导致了一种哲学元素的缺失,直接影响到了整个社会的文化心理。我们对metaphysics的正确理解,已经日益成为一个非常重要的问题。

The Mythical Foundation of Logic and Its Impact on Metaphysics of Exclusion

Exclusion is the very foundation of western metaphysics.Metaphysics as science of being qua being is founded upon concept of exclusion.Thus,to be is to be an excluding and excluded.Thus,being is a mutual exclusionary relationship between two opposites.Accordingly,exclusion is the most fundamental principle upon which the western metaphysical and logical system is based.Such exclusion can be traced to the very beginning of a Greek civilization,namely,the Greek creation myth.The author argues in this paper that the dominated western exclusionary culture has led to major conflicts.Currently it comes to an end as representing a major universal crisis at many levels.Additionally,Islamic and Christian cultures do not represent a profound alternative to western culture as they have been reshaped by western intellect.The Buddhist logic,which is founded upon totally different metaphysics,can represent a profound alternative to western exclusionary culture.

Anselm＇s Metaphysics in the Lineage of Parmenides： Nihil est per nihil

Among those who pay homage to Parmenides as a source of unquenchable inspiration for Western thought, we now revisit the Poem Of Nature as the birthplace of the principle of causality through the elimination of non-being at the origin of being. Indeed in Parmenides＇ Poem, a negative conviction can be found--the refusal that the non-being is at the origin of the being--which leads most philosophers to the affirmative conviction that something is at the origin of the being. The two convictions are two rational beliefs which have stimulated ancient Greek philosophy, and have continuously represented a structuring axis in the history of Western thought. With Aristotle, that affirmative conviction was converted into a principle of causality, that is, into a principle which requires a causal explanation for the intelligibility of reality. In Latin Middle Ages, we find a singular figure who promotes the synthesis of the two fundamental beliefs, the negative conviction, explicit in Parmenides, and the affirmative conviction, explicit in Aristotle： It is Saint Anselm. In an initial chapter （III） of his first work, the Monologion, Anselm declares that ＂nothing is by nothing＂ （nihil est per nihil）, and that consequently ＂all that is, is not but by something＂ （quidquid est, non nisi per aliquid est）. All of Anselm＇s metaphysics is an analysis and a development of this affirmative rational belief. Therefore, we claim Parmenides＇ paternity of Saint Anselm＇s metaphysics, of whom one may say he was the medieval Parmenides.

A Case Against the Linguistic Approach to Metaphysics Zeno Vendler's Project and Beyond

There are two approaches to metaphysics that concern language,the logical and the linguistic. Zeno Vendler,who took the linguistic one,distinguished with transformational techniques between two semantic categories,namely fact and event,and regarded them as corresponding respectively to a metaphysical category of beings. In doing this he presupposed that independent semantic categories could be sorted out,and corresponding categories of beings that are independent of language can be derived. But our analysis of Vendler's case shows that it is not semantic categories but grammar that functions in differentiating event and fact. At least some semantic categories could not be separated from grammar,and this casts doubt on the linguistic approach to metaphysics. If semantic categories are not independent of grammar,we could not derive metaphysics from linguistic study.

“批判的革命的”辩证法何以形成——从黑格尔、马克思到后形而上学思想

辩证法只有经历真实的“历险”,才能得到真正意义上的拯救。从观念史视角对“辩证法的历险”进行清理,是理解“辩证法何以是‘批判的革命的’”这一问题的关键。黑格尔辩证法在观念思辨层面展开了原则体系(矛盾的原则、发展的原则、历史的原则、具体的原则和总体的原则),在观念史上留下了一座丰富的宝藏。黑格尔之后,辩证法在观念史层面上面临着如何处理、承接、消化、扬弃黑格尔辩证法遗产的问题。马克思作为黑格尔辩证法的“批判者”“颠倒者”“继承者”,提出了从黑格尔哲学的神秘形式中“拯救辩证法”。马克思拯救辩证法是对黑格尔辩证法遗产的继承发展和辩证利用,具体体现在对辩证法“论域的拓展”“主体的重审”“主题的重新界定”。这一思想在观念形态上已然属于一种“后形而上学”的思想。从黑格尔、马克思到后形而上学思想的历史与逻辑的展开中,隐含着一个值得认真对待的当代思想主题,即辩证法诸种历险之展开。后形而上学思想是从形而上学“同一性理念”的对立面,特别是被传统哲学形而上学所排斥的“生命”“语言”“欲望”“理解”“现象”“行动”“他性(他者)”“伦理”等出发,使辩证法真实地面对人的具体感性生命,面对人的生产劳动实践,面对人的“非理性欲望-本能冲动-无意识”的自我展开。让辩证法奠基于“生命的人”“说话的人”“欲望的人”“理解中的人”“现象中的人”“行动中的人”“自我享用的人”“伦理的人”,是“辩证法诸历险”得以展开的进路。黑格尔绝对知识体系(形而上学)的解体和马克思拯救辩证法思想任务的提出,构成了在观念史层面“辩证法诸历险”得以展开的重要思想机缘——可称之为“哲学的第二个开端”。

论哈贝马斯对辩证法的后形而上学阐释

哈贝马斯的辩证法思想蕴含在他的后形而上学现代性理论中。如果说主体的形而上学化是现代性哲学话语的轴心,那么哈贝马斯则基于对现代性的主体性原则的反思,建构了以主体间的话语商谈和对话交往为内涵的后形而上学现代性哲学话语。哈贝马斯以主体间的道德对话和政治商谈为切入点,实现了辩证法的语用学转向,推动了辩证法的理论形态从为形而上学服务的真理逻辑向谋求伦理和政治共识的实践逻辑的转变。哈贝马斯对辩证法的后形而上学阐释,是对辩证法在对话中寻求共识的实践智慧的当代发展,深化了辩证法的现代性意蕴的研究,对于推进马克思主义辩证法的当代阐释具有启示意义。

基于“玄府-络病-浊毒学说”治疗前葡萄膜炎的思路及经验

前葡萄膜炎是葡萄膜炎中最常见的类型,其病因病机十分复杂,西医治疗时使用糖皮质激素,副作用较大。本病极易反复,产生的并发症对视力影响很大。前葡萄膜炎属于中医学“瞳神紧小”“瞳神干缺”范畴,其病因病机复杂多样。五脏之玄府郁闭,其病理产物化生浊毒,浊毒害清,影响五脏功能,进而影响目之玄府。络脉受损,其病理产物化生浊毒,浊毒损络,影响目中的络脉,故本病的病因病机为玄府郁闭,络脉受损,浊毒内生上扰目窍。本文为前葡萄膜炎的治疗提供新思路及方法,进一步丰富浊毒致目病理论。

A Brief Survey of the Metaphysical Poets

The article focuses on the brief study of the metaphysical poets,who were men of learning,and to show learning was their whole endeavor. The chief metaphysical poets include John Donne,Richard Crashaw,Andrew Marvell,George Herbert,and Henry Vaughan. They preferred wildly original images,puns,similes,and metaphors,which collectively are called metaphysical conceits. The term metaphysical implies the poetry is abstract and highly complicated. The group shares certain traits,but their themes,structures,and assorted tones in their poetry vary widely.

Is metaphyseal ulnar shortening osteotomy superior to diaphyseal ulnar shortening osteotomy in the treatment of ulnar impaction syndrome?A meta-analysis

BACKGROUND Although metaphyseal ulnar shortening osteotomy(MUSO)is safer for the treatment of ulnar impaction syndrome(UIS)than diaphyseal ulnar shortening osteotomy(DUSO),DUSO is widely used for UIS treatment.AIM To evaluate the effectiveness of DUSO and MUSO for UIS treatment and determine the factors that should be considered when choosing surgical treatment for UIS.METHODS Articles comparing the effectiveness of DUSO and MUSO for UIS treatment were systematically retrieved from MEDLINE(Ovid),PubMed,EMBASE,and Cochrane Library.The demography,incidence of complications,secondary operation rate,postoperative DASH score,wrist pain on the visual analogue scale,and grip strength improvement were also evaluated.In addition,the correlation between the improvement of grip strength and the shortening of osteotomy length of ulna was analyzed.The outcome of the patient was discontinuous,and the odds ratio,risk ratio(RR),and 95%CI were calculated and analyzed via RevMan5.3 software.RESULTS Six studies,including 83 patients receiving MUSO(experimental group)and 112 patients receiving DUSO(control group),were included in the meta-analysis.The second operation rate was significantly higher after DUSO than after MUSO.The DASH scores were slightly lower in the MUSO group than in the DUSO group.The patients receiving MUSO had slightly better pain relief effect than patients receiving DUSO.However,the incidence of complications and improvement of grip strength were not significantly different between the two groups.CONCLUSION Although DUSO and MUSO provide similar effects for UIS,MUSO is associated with a lower secondary operation rate,slightly lower postoperative DASH scores and slightly better pain relief effect than DUSO,indicating that MUSO can effectively be used for UIS treatment.

Physical, Epistemological and Metaphysical Perspectives on Quantum Theory： Constructed Experience？

This paper will present questions from three perspectives about Quantum Mechanics （QM）： physics, epistemological, and metaphysical. The quantum phenomena do not fit with the parameters of classical physics, so a daily intuition on macroscopic world is dispensable when it is the quantum object investigated. This physical domain induces a new thinking, which requires also new concepts to describe such object. The QM is disturbing and stimulates epistemological reflections, as the issues of access about what is known; and metaphysical theme are not to be left behind with regard to QM： What would the quantum object to？ What is apprehended when this object is perceived, once considered the disturbing characteristics that constitute its physical description： interference and non-separability？ What is its nature？ This paper focuses briefly on the analysis of B. d＇Espagnat in Veiled Reality, which would represent the physical perspective of QT; for epistemological questions, one will resort to the Kantian conception of knowledge; and with regard to the metaphysical perspective, we will rely on an article by Professor J. B. Arenhart. It is necessary to note that the question that pervades in this paper is about if the experience in QM is built. Thus, we will try to seek clarity on the philosophical issues through QT, regarding the problems about the possibility of knowledge of the quantum object and its nature, and whether experience in this case is built. But furthermore, the QM instigates us to think whether metaphysics proceeds on the investigation of nature when it comes to the QM. And such a question is more than to have as problem as the scope of the description of physical data, but rather whether it makes sense or whether metaphysical research is pertinent to the QM.

Metaphysical Energy Therapy in the Treatment of Cranial Nerve Palsies with Special Reference to Bell’s Palsy

Neuropathy, or nerve injury, is a severe and common impediment of diabetes. Studies evaluate that 50% of people with diabetes will develop neuropathy. Diabetic nerve injury is impairment of a single solitary nerve (also named mononeuropathy). Com- monly 2 cranial nerves Viz., cranial nerve VII and cranial nerve VI are involved in facial nerve palsies. The former one is called Bell’s palsy and is acute Lower Motor Neuron facial nerve paralysis (>80%) causing an inability to control facial muscles on the affected side. The later one is sixth nerve palsy, (the abducens nerve), which is responsible for triggering contraction of the lateral rectus muscle to abduct (i.e., turn out) the eye resulting in double vision on the affected side. In recent times, we have found to our amazement, rapid restoration of normalcy within a few hours to a few days, of Cranial Nerve palsies in diabetic subjects at our centre. We are presenting a group of cases having Type2DM over different time periods from 6 to 20 years and those who suddenly suffered facial nerve palsy and they came to VHSDRC for treatment. They were started on the new modality called the Dynamic Acupuncture Mediated Meta-physical Energy Therapy (DAMM Therapy), to recover from the facial palsy. The DAMM therapy is a unique novel way of infusing and transferring healing energy from the therapist to the patient. Within 2 - 7 sittings of DAMM therapy patients showed 75% - 100% improvement in their clinical condition.

The ＂Metaphysical Physician＂ in Victorian Fiction： The Moonstone and A Romance of Two Worlds

The Victorian period experienced, among many other paradoxes, an ongoing tension between science and spirituality. Bearing the legacy of the ＂Enlightenment Rationalism＂ and the Cartesian division between ＂matter＂ and ＂mind＂ since the eighteenth century, the Victorian minds had to deal with a contemporary world rapidly unfolding new discoveries in geology, astronomy, biology, and medical sciences. However, these could not completely erase the spiritual belief from the human mind. Rather they sought to reshape their codes in terms of ＂alternative sciences＂ like occultism and metaphysical psychiatry （pre-Freudian）. This paper seeks to explore the characterisation of the ＂metaphysical＂ physician in two novels by Wilkie Collins and Marie Corelli, showing how these figures play a crucial role in negotiating the tensions between science and spiritualism.
