It is intended to enhance English learners' proficiency in writing and reading. By asking questions to draw learners' attention to the professional writers' choices concerning organization, development, style, and diction, teachers explicitly guide learners to observe, analyze, study, apperceive, so as to learn about their writing thinking and strategies. By designing a variety of reading-to-write tasks, teachers endeavour to activate learners' writing thinking developed in writing-oriented reading activities to have such writing thinking fixed in mind and internalized. The WORI also fosters English learners' autonomy of sustaining development in reading, writing, as well as their English learning.展开更多

But in China, unfortunately, few achievements have been made in the field of reading theory research. Thus, in order to ameliorate our reading teaching, it is urgent for us to set up our own system of reading theories. The author, after studying carefully the present reading models in China and by absorbing the quintessence of foreign reading theories, ventures to suggest the “discourse word discourse” model. The model gives full thought to the characteristics of Chinese college students and thus suits a reading classroom in China better. However, the comprehension factors involved in the model are far from exhaustive and the model itself leaves much room for modification and addition.\;展开更多

Our main research questions are: how does a theatrical performance help to reconsider the scripts and to build a model of the digestive system? The pupils were encouraged to stage a theatrical performance for the whole school, explaining the digestion of a sandwich, a glass of water, an apple and a piece of chewing gum. The play helped to develop not only knowledge but also language. Having to produce a text for two different audiences, teachers and other learners led the students to debate between using "academic" vocabulary or more everyday vocabulary. Overall we found that they were more concerned with writing "academic" scripts, influenced by the texts that they consulted, than with writing a play accessible to all audiences.展开更多
