Drawing on literature regarding higher education research retrieved from the CNKI database from 1997 to 2021,this paper used CiteSpace to analyze the current status of higher education research in the Chengdu-Chongqin...Drawing on literature regarding higher education research retrieved from the CNKI database from 1997 to 2021,this paper used CiteSpace to analyze the current status of higher education research in the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.By comparing it with that in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region,the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area,and the Yangtze River Delta,this paper concluded that the level of higher education research within a region is in line with the level of the region’s economic and social development.As higher education research in the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle draws more and more attention,its research areas and topics are becoming increasingly diversified.However,by comparison,the research in this region features a late start and lower participation of researchers and research institutions,resulting in insufficient research in both quantity and quality.Therefore,it is essential to encourage more experts and scholars to participate in higher education research in the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.Efforts should also be made to strengthen academic exchanges and cooperation between scholars in Chengdu and Chongqing and establish a long-term cooperation mechanism for higher education research between the two cities.Improved higher education research will definitely facilitate the construction of first-class universities,thus providing human capital and intellectual support for the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.展开更多

Over the past decade the scale of higher education in China has expanded substantially.Regional development policies have attempted to make use of scale expansion as a tool to reduce inequality of higher education amo...Over the past decade the scale of higher education in China has expanded substantially.Regional development policies have attempted to make use of scale expansion as a tool to reduce inequality of higher education among regions with different development levels by providing poor regions with preferential treatment and support.This paper analyzes a provincial dataset(1997-2008),aiming to provide comprehensive quantitative evidence for the development of inequality of opportunity in higher education across provinces in China over the period of scale expansion.Results show that,for higher education,regional inequality relative to provincial population size clearly decreased over the research period.Accompanying the reduction in overall inequality across provinces,inequality between poor and rich regions actually increased over the same period.However,the increase was realized in favor of the poor region.The empirical results are consistent with the policy orientation of reforming the higher education system and of promoting regional development in China over the past decade.展开更多

文摘China’s dramatic economic rise has tended to overshadow other wider perspectives on the developing China and Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN)relationship,including in higher education.The article examines contemporary relations between China and ASEAN,set against the longer term development of cultural and trade relations.It is argued that,notwithstanding current territorial disputes,and a history of discrimination against ethnic Chinese in several parts of ASEAN,prospects for a deepening of relations in higher education remain strong.Singapore,Malaysia,and Vietnam are selected as three instances of the developing relationship in higher education and some of the links traced,with the former assessed as best placed to take advantage of its China relations in higher education.The developing sense of regionalism is seen as likely to further enhance China-ASEAN relations in higher education.
