The surface undulating shapes of rock joints have been described qualitatively or experimental quantitatively for a long time. The non determined describing method can not fit quantitative evaluation of mechanical parameters of rock joints in engineering. In this paper, relative amplitude ( R A) is chosen as a quantitative describing index of surface measurement of 1 023 surface undulating curves which conducted by profile curve device(PCD). We discuss the nonuniformity,anisotropy and unhomogeneity of surface undulating shapes of joints. A new method that analyzes the complexity of surface undulating shapes of rock joints directional statistically in various rock joints is also put forward. 展开更多

The analytic solutions are presented and a relation for amplitude frequency-load of the plates with edge clamped is derived by modified iteration method. The nonlinear vibration fundamental equation of circular sandwich plate under uniformed load and circumjacent load and the loosely clamped boundary condi- tion were established by von Karman plate theory, and then accordingly exact solution of static load and its numerical results were given. Based on time mode hypothesis and the variational method, the control equation of the space mode was derived, and then the amplitude frequency-load character relation of circular sandwich plate was obtained by the modified iteration method. Consequently the rule of the effect of the two kinds of load on the vibration character of the circular sandwich plate was investigated. When circumjacent load makes the lowest natural frequency zero, critical load is obtained. 展开更多

Inversion of focal mechanism and events identification using an improved relative amplitude method

The relative amplitude method (RAM) is more suitable for source inversion of low magnitude earthquakes because it avoids the modeling of short-period waveforms. We introduced an improved relative amplitude method (IRAM) which is more robust in practical cases. The IRAM uses a certain function to quantify the fitness between the observed and the predicted relative amplitudes among direct P wave, surface reflected pP and sP waves for a given focal mechanism. Using the IRAM, we got the fault-plane solutions of two earthquakes of mb4.9 and mb3.8, occurred in Issyk-Kul lake, Kyrgyzstan. For the larger event, its fault-plane solutions are consistent with the Harvard's CMT solutions. As to the smaller one, the strikes of the solution are consistent with those of the main faults near the epicenter. The synthetic long period waveforms and the predicted P wave first motions of the solutions are consistent with observations at some of regional stations. Finally, we demonstrated that fault-solutions cannot interpret the characteristics of teleseismic P waveforms of the underground nuclear explosion detonated in Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on October 9, 2006. 展开更多

The numerical results of coupled motions for a frigate and a supply ship have a good agreement with the experimental results. Based on the 3D coupled motions of two ships, a spectral analysis is employed to clearly observe the effect of speed, clearance and wave heading on the significant relative motion amplitude (SRMA) of two ships. The method presented in this paper will be helpful to select suitable clearance, speed and wave heading for underway replenishment at sea(RAS). 展开更多

The results show that thin reservoir can be recognized using seismic attributes technique when its thickness is less than 1/4 of wavelength. Through analyzing the influence of tuning effect, the relationship between thin layer thickness and tuning amplitude is well revealed. A precise structure interpretation is conducted using relative amplitude preserved high-resolution seismic data. By taking the geologic condition and well data into account, the distribution of oil and gas of HD4 oilfield is analyzed and predicted. based on seismic attributes. Nonlinear differential eigenvalue equations and boundary conditions of the problem were formulated by variational method and then their exact static solution can be got. The solution was derived by modified iteration method, so the analytic relations between amplitude and nonlinear oscillating frequency for circular sandwich plates were obtained. This work analyzes the quality of crustal tilt and strain observations during 2014, which were acquired from 269 sets of ground tiltmeters and 212 sets of strainmeters. In terms of data quality, the water tube tiltmeters presented the highest rate of excellent quality,approximately 91%, and the pendulum tiltmeters and ground strainmeters yielded rates of81% and 78%, respectively. This means that a total of 380 sets of instruments produced high-quality observational data suitable for scientific investigations and analyses. 展开更多
