In recent years, an increasing number ... Historical geographic information system construction echoes the call of academic development in the information era and demonstrates the in-depth advancement of history studies. In recent years, an increasing number of data platforms have been built to facilitate historical information storage, display, management and analysis. In such a context, the geographic information system(GIS) begins to contribute to the study of Chinese history. Its contribution is highlighted in nine areas: historical climate, fluvial landforms, town economies, rural settlements, hydraulic societies, environmental changes, ancient cities, ancient maps and HGIS-enabled research methods. The application of GIS to the study of Chinese history initiates a reform in research methods and at the same time upgrades the philosophy of history studies, facilitating the utilization of a diversity of historical data(documents, ancient maps, remote-sensing images, archaeological information, etc.) for dynamic tracing and multi-factor comprehensive research. At present, restricted by traditional disciplinary boundaries, the construction of HGIS platforms remains slow and insufficient, making it difficult to extensively apply GIS to the study of Chinese history. 展开更多

The education and research of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)in Malaysia started coincidentally circa Malaysia’s independence movement.Before the independence,much of the development focused on establishing treatment centers and Chinese medical halls to provide TCM treatment.Periodicals and journals advocating TCM and its advancement were published between the 1940s and 1960s,but many did not survive after a few issues.The challenge posed by the Immigration Ordinance 1952 further united TCM practitioners and TCM associations to establish the Chinese Medical Institute of Malaya.The trend gained momentum,and many educational institutes were set up in each of Malaysia.From the 1970s,Malaysia started hosting regional and international TCM conferences.In 2000,TCM education in Malaysia had finally gained recognition from the government.ATCM program standard was thus released by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency(MQA).To date,there are seven private higher education institutions which offer TCM programs based on the MQA standards and have established international collaborations with other universities.It is projected that Malaysia’s TCM education and research will grow further as a result of China’s Belt and Road initiative. 展开更多

In Chinese language studies, both “The Textual Research on Historical Documents” and “The Comparative Study of Historical Data” are traditional in methodology and they both deserve being treasured, passed on, and further developed. It will certainly do harm to the development of academic research if any of the two methods is given unreasonable priority. The author claims that the best or one of the best methodologies of the historical study of Chinese language is the combination of the two, hence a new interpretation of “The Double-proof Method”. Meanwhile, this essay is also an attempt to put forward “The Law of Quan-ma and Gui-mei” in Chinese language studies, in which the author believes that it is not advisable to either treat Gui-mei as Quan-ma or vice versa in linguistic research. It is crucial for us to respect always the language facts first, which is considered the very soul of linguistics. 展开更多

The development of economy and industrialization further accelerates the pace of development of graphic design education.The educational system actively adopted two ways of“going out”and“inviting in”to communicate with the western world in graphic design(Zhang,2009).Chinese design began to re-examine its balance between globalization and localization after rapid absorption and international experience digestion.As for the negative influence,it led to the risk of developing short-sightedness in design education.Faced with unprecedented challenges,the graphic design industry was continually expanding its functions.The development of Chinese design cannot entirely rely on its own.There was no doubt that graphic design was indeed facing significant obstacles.The suggestions from the American Institute of Graphic Arts(AIGA)are set very high to achieve;the objectives will be excellent if academia can follow.A study aims to understand the overall curriculum and course design and how best to modify the general curriculum and course design to allow for industry practices changes and keep a close eye on the Chinese market's changing needs for design should be carried out. 展开更多

Purpose:Chinese Educators,referred to as Jiaoyujia(教育家)in Chinese,are esteemed indivi-duals dedicated to education with extensive expertise in theory and practice.Despite their influ-ential pedagogical research,they have received limited scholarly attention.This study aimed to fll the gap by focusing on jilin Li's(李吉林)contextualized teaching research informed by Chinese educational traditions.Design/Approach/Methods:A case study format was adopted,and data were thematically ana-lyzed using NVivo I2.In light of Kuan-Hsing Chen's"Asia as method"idea,the analysis drew par-ticular attention to the Asian resources employed in the pedagogical studies of interest.Findings:Focusing on how Educators utilize diverse educational traditions,this paper presents three functions of Chinese educational traditions applicable to Li's case.The chosen case study demonstrates that elements of Chinese educational traditions still actively inform Educators working in a modern Western-style education system.This paper analyzes how Li combined Chinese and foreign traditions and reveals an element of subjectivity with its own strengths and deficiencies. 展开更多

This historical study investigates the concept of learner autonomy in the national English language curricula for Chinese universities.It seeks to understand the meaning of learner autonomy in China and the intentionality of promoting this concept through the curricula from 1978 to 2007.By adopting Quentin Skinner’s intentionalist approach to analyzing the history of ideas,this study conducted a systematic document analysis of three national curricula in relation to their linguistic and practical contexts constituted of 169 Chinese academic articles in total.The study revealed that learner autonomy mainly referred to students’motivation and ability to work hard on their own outside the classroom in the Chinese context.Importing this concept,however,caused ideological confusion and exacerbated the disempowerment of teachers within the dynamics of China’s English language education at the tertiary level.The study raises awareness for borrowing concepts across different cultural contexts and has implications for research,policymaking,teacher development,and pedagogical practice in second language education in China. 展开更多

The paper offers a critical appraisal of the global knowledge developments in education using China’s contributions in a fashion similar to a case study.The paper scrutinizes the complicity of Western educational research to euro-centric biases and discusses the pursuit of a global epistemological eclecticism.To support this claim,the magnitude of the global knowledge economy,including country-by-country comparisons,is explored together with data pertaining to the success rate of submissions and citations.These data are used as the basis for arguments that the dominant research practices and developmental work serve Western interests,Western thought and a Western economy tied to standardization rather than eastern epistemological interests. 展开更多

This paper explores the idea of“Chinese social work 2.0”by reviewing the situation,issues,and needs of Chinese social work for further advancement in historical and comparative perspectives.The“10 years of Chinese social work(2006-2016)”vs.a 30-year history of rebuilding social work in the Chinese mainland can be explained with the transition of GPP(general public policy).This helps to understand the various pitfalls and seeming downturns in Chinese social work over the past years and to understand the major decisions of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China(CPC)by understanding the historical backdrop and theoretical rationale of“seeking balance”meaning that China formally parts with its“GDP first”doctrine and withdraws its“economic state”GPP from the historical stage,and“seeking sufficiency”meaning that China continues to base its public policy on economic construction rather than to follow a welfare state GPP.Chinese social work professionals should take advantage of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China(CPC)by highlighting the core issue of“balanced”development and play a leading role in promoting social fairness and justice.The precondition for fulfilling this role is that social work must be placed among the main disciplinary categories(“Group I subject of social science and humanities”)in China with the enhancement of research and faculty competence via well-designed(doctoral)social work education. 展开更多

作为一种与国计民生关系最为密切的教育类型,近代以来现代意义上的职业教育在我国逐步发展,已成为国际上规模最大、结构最为完善的职业教育体系。随着实践的推进,学术界一直致力于其理论建构,尤其是改革开放以来。这一时期职业教育中知... 作为一种与国计民生关系最为密切的教育类型,近代以来现代意义上的职业教育在我国逐步发展,已成为国际上规模最大、结构最为完善的职业教育体系。随着实践的推进,学术界一直致力于其理论建构,尤其是改革开放以来。这一时期职业教育中知识生产的突出特征是有了强大的大学职业教育研究机构为依托。职业教育研究的基本范式经历了两个阶段,即20世纪后20年的构建职业技术教育学基本知识体系和21世纪头20年在更为宽广的学科视野下的理论研究。这一时期的研究有力推动了职业技术教育学科的知识演进。本文以1980年代以来职业教育中的知识生产为研究问题,聚焦职业教育内涵、价值、体系、课程、教师教育、校企合作这6个最为核心的研究领域,以这6个领域中有重要知识生产意义的研究成果为对象,通过对知识演进路径与未来走向的分析,勾勒职业教育知识生产的基本架构,为进一步提升职业教育学术水平提供参考。 展开更多

口述史在各个领域被广泛应用,在教育研究中却乏善可陈。究其原因,主要是一些教育研究者科学理性的思维方式对口述史价值心存怀疑,以及对口述史研究的陌生。口述史在教育研究中有很宽广的应用空间和价值,主要表现在五个方面:抢救“活”... 口述史在各个领域被广泛应用,在教育研究中却乏善可陈。究其原因,主要是一些教育研究者科学理性的思维方式对口述史价值心存怀疑,以及对口述史研究的陌生。口述史在教育研究中有很宽广的应用空间和价值,主要表现在五个方面:抢救“活”的教育史料,丰富、拓展教育历史研究;拓展教育社会学的研究领域;用细节来反映当代中国教育的特色、经验与精神;促成教师实践性知识的显现;勾勒教师成长的轨迹及阶段性特征。口述史的应用应遵循五个原则:从更绵长的历史视角开展研究;尽可能用多种手段确保口述资料的真实性、完整性;在分析研究中,坚持口述记录和文本资料分析相结合;注重多元的解释方式;注重口述史研究的伦理,通过签署法律授权书,确保访谈双方的权益。 展开更多
