By carrying out theoretical analysis, the sensitivity coefficients of different types of ultrasonic are obtained by taking the low carbon steel(12%C) as a research object. By fixing the interval distance between sending and receiving transducers, the mathematical expressions of the change of stress and the variation of time are established. To design one sending-one receiving and oblique incidence ultrasonic detection probes, according to Snell law, the critically refracted longitudinal wave(LCR wave) is excited at a certain depth of the fixed distance of the tested components. Then, the relationship between the depth of LCR wave detection and the center frequency of the probe in Q235 steel is obtained through experimental study. To detect the stress gradient in the depth direction, a stress gradient LCR wave detection model is established, through which the stress gradient formula is derived by the relationship between center frequency and detecting depth. A C-shaped stress specimen of Q235 steel is designed to conduct stress loading tests, and the stress is measured with the five group probes at different center frequencies. The accuracy of ultrasonic testing is verified by X-ray stress analyzer. The stress value of each specific depth is calculated using the stress gradient formula. Accordingly, the ultrasonic characterization of residual stress field is realized. Characterization results show that the stress gradient distribution is consistent with the simulation in ANSYS. The new technology can be widely applied in the detection of the residual stress gradient field caused by mechanical processing, such as welding and shot peening.展开更多

This paper aims to improve test accuracy of welding residual stress and conducts an experimental study on the strain release factors involved when using the blind-hole method for Q235 and Q345, two steels commonly used in building structures. The ranges of strain release factors A and B in the elastic stage, the effects of strain release factors on residual stress calculated values, and the plastic corrected strain release factors are analyzed considering of the effect of plastic deformation around the blind hole on measurement accuracy. Finally, a simplified calculation formula to determine strain release factors is proposed for use with the blind-hole method. Results show that in the elastic stage, strain release factor A for Q235 and Q345 ranges from-0.399 to-0.525 and strain release factor B from-0.791 to-0.960. Changing the strain release factors A and B shows that calculated residual tensile stress varies in relation to a decrease in both factor values. However, there is a increase in calculated residual compressive stress with a decrease in the strain release factor A value, but there is an decrease with a decrease in strain release factor B value. Calculated residual stress applied to elastic strain release factors is compared with that applied to amended plastic strain release factors for Q235 steel. The maximum deviation between calculated residual stress and test stress is reduced from 21.1 to 1.0%,and for Q345 steel from 26.5 to 1.2%. It is thus evident that the plastic correction formula proposed in this paper can be used in calculations when conducting a residual stress test.展开更多

Penetrated properties of different thicknesses UHMWPE FRP laminates (URP) impacted by 3.3g cubic high velocity fragments were studied. According to the ballistic experimental results and theoretical analysis, the linear relation between ballistic limit vBL and area density AD was confirmed. The relative parameters of showing experientially residual velocity vr were expressed by the function of AD. In the end, versatile experiential expression between vr and AD was found. Prediction of vr and vBL using obtained expressions under the above stated condition of impacting URP was consistent with the experimentaled results. Consequently, the two experiential relations can be used to predict the residual velocity and ballistic limit of cubic high velocity fragments impacting URP. The residual characteristic of high-velocity steel fragments penetrating UHMWPE FRP laminates can be more exactly forecasted by the two derived experiential formulas.展开更多

The first derivation uses the induction method, which requires only a single integral to calculate. The second derivation uses the Laplace transform and requires minimum assumptions. The new derivations are compared with the established derivations, such as by convolution, moment generating function, and Bayesian inference. The chi-square testing has seen many applications to physics and other fields. We describe a unique version of the chi-square test where both the variance and location are tested, which is then applied to environmental data. The chi-square test is used to make a judgment whether a laboratory method is capable of detection of gross alpha and beta radioactivity in drinking water for regulatory monitoring to protect health of population. A case of a failure of the chi-square test and its amelioration are described. The chi-square test is compared to and supplemented by the t-test.展开更多

This experimental research was completed in an area of study, composed of slopes and plateaus, located in the southern region of Brazil, in the Santo Amaro da Imperatriz municipality. An SPT (standard penetration test) and CPT in situ test investigation campaign was conducted and collected from deformed and undeformed samples for physical characterization and triaxial tests. The results made it possible to classify the soils analyzed according to the unified methodology proposed by Robertson that, based on studies provide friction angle values along the hole’s depth, and obtained through the CPT. The friction angle values obtained in the CPT indicated a well-defined trend of high values at the surface, which decrease in the middle of the soil mass and increase again near the healthy rock. The friction angles estimated by the CPT were overestimated when compared to laboratory estimations. This occurrence is explained by the fact that the measured resistance of the field tests is embedded in the cementation and suction plots.展开更多

文摘Helical anchors are commonly used in Brazil for guyed transmission towers subjected to static and cyclic wind loads. In most cases, these anchors are installed in tropical residual soil,a micro-structured material in which the shear strength is provided by soil bonding.During installation of a helical anchor,as the helical plate moves downward into the ground, the soil penetrated is sheared and displaced.Consequently,in this type of soil, anchor installation affects the soil shear strength significantly associated with a bonded structure. However, the cyclic responses of helical anchors in this type of structured soils are rarely reported. To address this problem, tests were conducted in a Brazilian residual soil to investigate the monotonic, cyclic and post-cyclic performances of single-helix anchors.Field tests used two instrumented single-helix anchors installed in this typical residual soil of sandstone, which is frequently observed in large areas in the southern Brazil. The testing results indicate that the disturbance caused by the anchor installation affected the monotonic uplift performance markedly. The results of cyclic loading tests also show no significant degradation of helix bearing resistance and reduced displacement accumulation with increasing load cycles. This is perhaps due to the soil improvement caused by previous loading, which then increases the stiffness response of the anchor.

文摘Vehicle load is among the main factors affecting the deformation of subgrade soil.In this research study, the concept of impact type traffic load is introduced to investigate the effects of vehicle load based on the dynamic stress and displacement time histories acquired from seasonal frozen subgrade soils.Using freezing-thawing and dynamic triaxial tests and considering the amplitude and loading sequence of impact type traffic load, the residual deformation characteristics of subgrade soil under impact type traffic loads and freezing-thawing cycles is studied. It was found that under impact type traffic load, the residual deformation of soils increased sharply as the amplitude of impact type traffic load increased. It was also found that the increase in the amplitude of impact type traffic load led to the increase of residual deformation in a scale of power and exponential function. The amplitudes of impact type traffic load affect the development stress-strain path of the residual strain. After the soil experienced the proper amount of pre-vibration of the light load, residual deformation decreased by 15%.After freezing-thawing,the residual strain of soil increased as the amplitude of the impact type traffic loads increased. Also, when the amplification effect of freezing-thawing on the residual strain was basically stable, the residual deformation increased by about 10%.The peak impact type traffic load had a large effect on soil deformation after the freezing-thawing process, leading to the observation that of the earlier the peaks, the stronger the effect of freezing-thawing.After the soil was subjected to preloading with a small load, the influence of the freezing-thawing cycles gradually stabilized. The results may be useful in preventing and controlling the risk of subgrade soil failure when construction takes place spring thaw periods.
文摘<span style="font-family:Verdana;">In Nigeria, most welding activities are carried out by road side welders, majority of this welders are ignorant of weld residual stress and its adverse effect on weldment. Residual stress (RS) measuring device </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">is</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> vital in the measurement of inherent stresses in material. The aim of this research was to employ proof of principle in analyzing the weld residual stresses in a material. This was achieved by measuring samples with magnetic residual stress device and then subjecting the weld samples to mechanical tensile test with hope that materials with more residual stresses fail first. Finally the result from both procedures w</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">as</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> compared to establish </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">a </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">relationship</span><span style="font-family:""><span style="font-family:Verdana;">. Four (4) pieces of mild steel coupons measuring 100 × 40 × 3 mm were welded, producing two specimens, A</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">11</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> and B</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">11</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> of 200 × 40 × 3 mm</span></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">,</span><span style="font-family:""><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> respectively. The specimens were measured using the Magnetic device developed and 37 signals were obtained per specimen, thereafter, the welded specimens were subjected to tensile testing and results analyzed. From the results obtained, Specimen A</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">11</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> was observed to have the highest signal peak at the weld zone with RS signal of 20.3983 mV compared to B</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">11</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> with 19.358 mV. While under tensile loading, it took 1.63 kN to cause failure to specimen A</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">11</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> and 8.65 kN for specimen B</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">11</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">. From this simple experiment, it implies that the Magnetic RS device was able to mimic the behavior of residual stress and also predicted that A</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">11</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> would fail first.

文摘The mechanical performance of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber (UHMWPE) and its composites were proposed. The residual characteristic of high-velocity steel fragments penetrating UHMWPE FRP laminates can be more exactly forecasted by the two derived experiential formulas.
文摘We describe two new derivations of the chi-square distribution. The chi-square test is compared to and supplemented by the t-test.
文摘The current research presents the results of experiment in situ and laboratory research with the goal of determining the friction angle in residual soil using the CPT (cone penetration test). This occurrence is explained by the fact that the measured resistance of the field tests is embedded in the cementation and suction plots.
