The effect of catalyst type and concentration on the production of alkyd resin using castor seed oil (CSO) was evaluated. Lithium hydroxide, lead (II) oxide, calcium carbonate, sodium hydroxide and calcium oxide were investigated. The fatty acid profile of the raw CSO was determined using GC-MS while structural elucidation of the CSO based alkyd resins was determined using FTIR spectrometry. The CSO modified alkyd resin produced has acid values of 5.0, 5.61, 7.0 8.24 and 11 for lithium hydroxide, lead (II) oxide, calcium carbonate, sodium hydroxide and calcium oxide respectively. The extent of reaction was 95%, 95%, 91%, 89% and 88% for lithium hydroxide, lead (II) oxide, calcium carbonate, sodium hydroxide and calcium oxide respectively at the reaction time of 150 minutes. The alcoholysis reaction completion time was fastest in LiOH followed by PbO, CaCO3, NaOH and CaO catalyst. Physico-chemical parameters of the oil and performance evaluation of the alkyd films suggest that they are sustainable materials for surface coating. LiOH shows excellent robustness to expanded process parameters.展开更多

The ion exchangers contain 2.71-3.23 mmol of the ligand contents per gram of the resin. Batch extraction capacities were determined for the metal chloride salts in buffer solutions in the pH range from -1 to 6.0. The chelate resins were very selective for Cu^2+, Zn^2+, Cd^2+ in the presence of other divalent transition metal ions. The maximum uptake capacities of PNBMZ (synthetic molar ratio = 1:1.5) under non-competitive condition were found to be 0.94 mmol/g for Cu^2+ at pH = 2, 1.3 mmol/g for Cd^2+ at pH = 1 and 1.75 mmol/g for Zn^2+ at pH = -1 respectively. While in the case of PBBMZ, it was 1.39 mmol/g for Cd〉 at pH = 1. The metal-uptake behaviors for both of them showed strong pH dependence, and their extraction capacities increase with decreasing pH. The uptake of Cu^2+ by the resin PNBMZs at pH = 1 was found to be rather fast with t1/2 = 18 min. Metal-uptake experiments under competitive conditions also confirm that the chelate resins have a high selectivity for Cu^2+, Zn^2+, Cd^2+ and the contrary pH dependence.展开更多

Gold (III) ion could be extracted rapidly by the resins(T_(1/2),<lmin. )with high efficiency and capacity (for LS-B resin that were 99. 8% and 95. 8mg/gRrespectively) from aqueous solution but most of the co-existing metal ions such as Pd (II),Cu(II), Zn (II), Pb (II) and Cd (II) were remained. The extraction capacity and strippingpercentage for gold (III) remained unchanged in four extraction-stripping cycles. The resins also showed good column extraction-elution properties.展开更多
