Double resonance optical pumping spectroscopy has an outstanding advantage of high signal-to-noise ratio, thus having potential applications in precision measurement. With the counter propagated 780nm and 776nm laser beams acting on a rubidium vapor cell, the high resolution spectrum of 5S1/2 - 5P3/2 - 5D5/2 ladder-type transition of ST Rb atoms is obtained by monitoring the population of the 5S1/2 ground state. The dependence of the spectroscopy lineshape on the probe and coupling fields are comprehensively studied in theory and experiment. This research is helpful for measurement of fundamental physical constants by high resolution spectroscopy. 展开更多

Different coordinate frames for nuclear spin polarization vector are introduced, and theoretical calculation is conducted to analyze this model. We demonstrate that when the optical pumping nuclear magnetic resonance system rotates in a plane parallel to the quantization axis, it will maintain a steady state with respect to the quantization axis which is independent of rotational speed and direction. 展开更多

We report an efficient continuous-wave self-Raman laser at 1176 nm based on a 20-mm-long composite YVO4/Nd:YVO4/YVO4 crystal and pumped by a wavelength-locked 878.9 nm diode laser.A maximum output power of 5.3 W is achieved at a pump power of 26 W,corresponding to an optical conversion efficiency of 20%and a slope efficiency of 21%.The Raman threshold for the diode pump power was only 0.92 W.The results reveal that in-band pumping by a wavelength-locked diode laser significantly enhances output power and efficiency of self-Raman lasers by virtue of improved pump absorption and relieved thermal loading. 展开更多

We theoretically investigate several parameters for the nuclear magnetic resonance gyroscope based on ^(133)C_(s–)^(129)Xe/^(131)Xe. For a cell containing a mixture of ^(133)Cs at saturated pressure, we investigate the optimal quenching gas(N_2) pressure and the corresponding pump laser intensity to achieve 30% ^(133)Cs polarization at the center of the cell when the static magnetic field B0 is 5 μT with different ^(129)Xe/^(131)Xe pressure. The effective field produced by spin-exchange polarized ^(129)Xe or ^(131)Xe sensed by ^(133)Cs can also be discussed in different^(129)Xe/^(131)Xe pressure conditions. Furthermore,the relationship between the detected signal and the probe laser frequency is researched. We obtain the optimum probe laser detuning from the D2(6~2S_(1/2)→ 6~2P_(3/2)) resonance with different ^(129)Xe/^(131)Xe pressure owing to the pressure broadening. 展开更多

A two-color continuous wave(CW) discharge-pumped far-infrared(FIR) hydrogen cyanide(HCN) laser was developed as the source of an interferometer for measuring the line-averaged electron density in the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak(EAST). The output power of the dual laser system was about 120 m W from each laser on the 337 μm(0.89 THz)line. The polarization of each output beam was fixed using thin tungsten filaments and oscillated in the EH11 mode. Different megahertz intermediate frequencies(IF) and a slight frequency offset(~1 MHz) were generated in this system to replace the traditional rotating grating with~10 k Hz IF, and this can improve the time resolution of the interferometer significantly. The experimental result showed that different IF signals were obtained by successfully adjusting the cavity length. In particular, the beat frequency was captured at ~1.3 MHz by a Schottky mixer when the length of the resonant cavities was changed by 5 μm by an automatic adjustment system. In order to study the character of IF, a long time record of the IF signal was carried out,and the IF signal could be stabilized for a few minutes in the range of 2 MHz to 3 MHz. A realtime IF stability control system was initially designed for long pulse discharge experiments on the EAST. The ~MHz frequency response and good phase sensitivity of the dual laser HCN interferometer will allow the system to track fast density profiles and resolve fast MHD events,such as tearing/neoclassical tearing, disruptions, etc. 展开更多

In this Letter, we report, for the first time to our knowledge, on a continuous-wave, singly resonant optical parametric oscillator using an Mg O: PPLN crystal pumped by an all-fiberized master-oscillator power amplifier structured amplified random fiber laser. An idler output power of 2.46 W at 3752 nm is achieved with excellent beam quality, and the corresponding pump-to-idler conversion efficiency is 9.6% at room temperature. The idler output power exhibits a peak-to-peak power stability better than 12.7%, and the corresponding standard deviation is better than 3.6% RMS in about 20 min at the maximum output power. Meanwhile, other characteristics of the generated signal and idler laser are studied in detail and not only offered an effective guide in the research of optical parametric processes in the case of a continuous spectrum, but also broadened the range of random fiber laser applications. 展开更多

In this paper, we present the design, simulation, fabrication and characterization of a terahertz(THz) filter based on metamaterial consisting of the periodical double symmetric splits ring resonator(DS-SRR) array. We can observe that the metamaterial-based filter possesses a band-pass transmission when the electrical field is along y direction, and it possesses a low-pass transmission when the electrical field is along x direction. Our results demonstrate that the proposed filter can realize the switching between band-pass effect and low-pass effect by only changing the polarization direction of the incident electromagnetic wave. Moreover, the calculated surface current distributions are also used to analyze the switchable mechanism of the THz metamatrial filter. Therefore, the proposed THz wave filter has a potential application in THz wave communication systems. 展开更多

A pulse width of 7.1 ns is achieved at a wavelength of 1996.9 nm. A maximum output power of 3.02 W is obtained with a pump power of 58.8 W at a repetition rate of 100 k Hz and a high-voltage time of 1000 ns, corresponding to an overall optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of 5.2%. We report a monolithic Tm:YLF micro laser in this Letter. In order to improve the relaxation oscillation of the laser, both ends of the crystal are coated, making the Tm:YLF crystal itself a resonant cavity. The micro laser is pumped by a 792 nm laser diode operated in the continuous wave(CW) mode. We obtain maximum output powers of 7.78 and 10.4 W at the total incident power of 43.6 W with focus lenses of 37.5 and 40 mm, respectively,corresponding to the slope efficiencies of 25.6% and 40.0% and the optical–optical conversion efficiencies of 17.8%and 23.8%. It is clear that the amplitude of the relaxation oscillation is smaller and the beam quality is better with the focus length of 37.5 mm; however, the laser with the focus length of 40 mm produces a higher output power and a more stable wavelength centering at 1878.44 nm. 展开更多

A novel terahertz device with multi-function of polarization and switch based on phase transition of VO_2

When VO_2 is in the insulation phase, the resonance frequencies of the proposed structure are 1.49 THz and 1.22 THz for the x- and y-polarization, respectively. It can perform as a THz polarizer with extinction ratios of 52.5 dB and 17 dB for the y- and x-polarization, respectively; When VO_2 transforms into metallic phase, the resonance frequency for x-polarization wave shifts from 1.49 THz to 1.22 THz, while that remains still for the y-polarization component. It means that the structure can work as a polarization-dependent THz switch with a high extinction ratio of 32 dB. 展开更多

We propose a method for controllable frequency line spacing soliton formation in a microresonator using two continuous-wave(CW) pumps with multi-free-spectral-range(FSR) spacing. The method we propose has better control over the amount and location of the solitons traveling in the cavity compared to the tuning pump method. We also find that by introducing a second pump with frequency N FSR from the first pump, solitons with N FSR comb spacing can be generated. 展开更多
