Research and Application of Bedside Rhetorical Teaching Method in Teaching Nursing Interns

Objective:To observe and analyze the application of the bedside rhetorical teaching method in teaching nursing interns.Methods:A total of 64 nursing interns in the gastroenterology department of our hospital from July 2022 to May 2023 were randomly divided into two groups,32 cases in the control group and 32 cases in the intervention group.The control group was given conventional teaching methods,and the intervention group was given the bedside rhetorical teaching method on the basis of the conventional teaching.The differences in the methods of teaching between the two groups were compared after the end of the internship,and there was a statistically significant difference with P<0.05.Results:The scores of the interns in the intervention group were significantly better than those of the control group in theoretical knowledge,communication skills,and case analysis items(P<0.05).Conclusion:The bedside rhetorical teaching method transforms classroom education into bedside teaching,which enables the interns to apply the theoretical knowledge to clinical practice,and has a higher improvement in the three aspects of disease knowledge,communication skills,and case analysis,cultivates the interns’comprehensive clinical skills,and lays a good foundation for the future entry into the nursing field.

A Rhetorical Structure Theory Based Approach to Texture Coherence in Chinese EFL Learners' Argumentative Writing

Based on Rhetorical Structure Theory(RST),this study intends to investigate into the typical features of rhetorical relations in Chinese EFL learners’argumentative writing and their relationship with writing quality.A set of 60 essays(30 with the highest scores and another 30 with the lowest scores)were drawn from SWECCL(Spoken and Written English Corpus of Chinese Learners).These essays were then cut into elementary discourse units and manually annotated with rhetorical relations.Research findings show that there is no significant difference in terms of the total numbers and types of rhetorical relations between the two proficiency groups.However,comparisons of the rhetorical relations both at the intra-paragraph and at the inter-paragraph level indicate statistical differences between the two groups.

Rhetorical Structure of Research Article Methods in Agricultural Science

Currently,there has been a growing interest in the study of academic writing;focusing on the structural organization of academic text or specific linguistic features.However,very few studies have been done on the structural organization of the Methods and the linguistic features link to each move.Thus,the purpose of this study is to identify rhetorical structure of the Methods of agricultural science research articles and to explore the linguistic features linked to each identified move,by analyzing thirty research articles based on Kanoksilapatham's2005 framework.Altogether,five moves were found in the Methods,showing that rhetorical structure of Methods in agricultural science has its own format.The moves and linguistic features realizing rhetorical functions may help novice researchers or learners write the Methods of science research articles effectively and professionally.

A Literature Review of Rhetorical Criticism Research in the Past Two Decades

Rhetorical criticism enjoys a long history of studies, and the researchin this field upsurged at the end of 20th century and the beginning of 21st century.In the article, the author aims to investigate the developmental trends in this filedat home and abroad by a literature review of the studies in the past two decades.It has been proved in the research that domestic studies can be classified into fourtypes—introducing theories of western rhetorical criticism in the U.S., building newmodels of western rhetorical criticism, comparing theories of Chinese and Westernrhetorical criticism, and applying western rhetorical criticism into domestic use; whilestudies abroad in this field, especially in the U. S., keep deepening and upgrading itstheories on the basis of its profundity, and enlarging its research scope. A literaturereview of western rhetorical criticism in the past two decades can provide someacademic nutrition to domestic research and deliver certain implicational meaningto it. In the future, more studies should be carried out to systematize the theory ofwestern rhetorical criticism and to incorporate the updated theory into the analysis ofrhetorical practice in our country, thus expressing the strong interpretative power ofwestern rhetorical criticism.

The Compatibility of Pragmatic Twist and Rhetoric

It is universally believed that Rhetoric is an expressive way of language, while pragmatic twist(Deliberate misinterpretation) isthe understanding phenomenon, which is not a rhetorical device but a cognitive activity in nature.
