Multi-protocol label switching(MPLS) has the advantage of high efficiency in the second layer, which improves the performance of data packets routing. In this paper, a new structure to implement optical MPLS is proposed. We construct a code family for spectral-amplitude coding(SAC) labels in the optical MPLS networks. SAC labels are suitable for optical packet switching because they can be constructed and recognized quickly at each router. We use the label stacking to provide hierarchical routing to avoid swapping labels at each forwarding node and reduce system complexity. However, the phase-induced intensity noise(PIIN) appears due to the incoherent property of the light source when the stacked labels set makes the correlation decoding with the local node label,which degrades system performance. 展开更多

Based on the spatial modulation of active Raman gain,a two-dimensional gain cross-grating is theoretically proposed.As the probe field propagates along the z direction and passes through the intersectant region of the two orthogonal standingwave fields in the x-y plane,it can be effectively diffracted into the high-order directions,and the zero-order diffraction intensity is amplified at the same time.In comparison with the two-dimensional electromagnetically induced cross-grating based on electromagnetically induced transparency,the two-dimensional gain cross-grating has much higher diffraction intensities in the first-order and the high-order directions.Hence,it is more suitable to be utilized as all-optical switching and routing in optical networking and communication. 展开更多

This is due to the following:(i) coaxially propagated OAM beams with different charges are mutually orthogonal,(ii) OAM beams can be efficiently multiplexed and demultiplexed, and(iii) OAM charges can be efficiently manipulated. Therefore, multiple data-carrying OAM beams could have the potential capability for reconfigurable optical switching and routing. In this paper, we discuss work involving reconfigurable OAM-based optical add/drop multiplexing, space switching,polarization switching, channel hopping, and multicasting. 展开更多
