Level crossing rails are high risk areas due to the combination of the limited effectiveness of current inspection methods and high corrosion rates which often exist.This paper discusses the current UK standard practi...Level crossing rails are high risk areas due to the combination of the limited effectiveness of current inspection methods and high corrosion rates which often exist.This paper discusses the current UK standard practices for the periodic inspection of level crossing rails using visual(VT)and conventional ultrasonic(UT)methods.The limitations of these methods are discussed and how these limitations affect the overall maintenance program for level crossings.A new inspection method,guided wave testing(GWT)is then described with particular emphasis on its advantages for inspecting level crossings.Finally,a review is given of the current Network Rail trial of GWT on level crossings using the G-Scan system,with representative results which demonstrate the effectiveness of GWT for this application.展开更多

In order to explore the impact of different structural design parameters and environmental factors on the performance of the hydrostatic guide rail,the flow field inside its oil chamber is simulated,which provides dir...In order to explore the impact of different structural design parameters and environmental factors on the performance of the hydrostatic guide rail,the flow field inside its oil chamber is simulated,which provides direction and guidance for the design and optimization of the guide rail system.Based on the theory of fluid lubrication and the Reynolds equation,numerical simulations are performed through a mathematical model.The results suggest that the bearing capacity of the oil film increases with the oil supply pressure.The film thickness and the film stiffness share a positive correlation.Different oil film thickness and different input pressure parameters can have a significant impact on bearing capacity and oil film stiffness.The correlations identified in the present analysis can be used as a basis to optimize the guide rail design.展开更多

According to the experimental results, using numerical calculation software program and the numerical simulation with finite element analysis (FEA), the relationships among the maximal load and displacement on cross section shape with each step bend loading, the loading stroke with the heat treatment condition, and the loading stroke with cross section shape were gained, and also those curves were discussed qualitatively. Finally, the contrast results between the numerical simulation and experiment were carried out to study the influence about the multi-step loading on specimen. It is put forward that enlightenment for the straightening stroke in the precision linear guide rail manufacture process.展开更多
