As the world’s second largest economy and a traditional agricultural country,China has not yet achieved the goal of modernizing the logistics of agricultural products.The overall modernization of its logistics industry has not been achieved either.Due to the poor overall performance of its agricultural product logistics,the level of China’s agricultural product logistics is still in its infancy,with high logistics costs,large losses,and low efficiency.In fact,the construction of a modern agricultural product logistics system in China is lagging behind.This has seriously affected the process of agricultural industrialization in China.Compared with its urban socio-economic development,its rural development is relatively lagging behind.The“three-rural”(including agriculture,rural area,and peasant)problem caused by the divided urban-rural structure in China has distorted the relationship between workers and peasants.This has become a global problem,affecting China’s economic and social development.The core problem is the slow growth of farmers’income.The bottleneck that has been restricting their income has shifted from production to circulation.In recent years,the promulgation of a series of policies and documents has brought both,hope and challenges to the online and offline integration and development in the field of agricultural product circulation.This paper briefly outlines the characteristics and status quo of rural logistics development based on online and offline transactions,and provides some effective suggestions on how to build a new rural logistics development model based on online and offline transactions,in hope to assist the development of new rural logistics models in China.The construction provides a reference for the development of the logistics industry in China’s rural areas,thereby promoting the circulation of agricultural and sideline products,and better developing China’s rural economy. 展开更多

Rural logistics faces a dilemma between development and high carbon emissions in China.We assess the tension between rural logistics development and carbon emissions from the perspective of policy guidance by modeling a rural logistics system using Jiangsu’s data.We simulate the development trend of Jiangsu rural logistics under carbon abatement policies from 2021–2030,with a focus on promoting its development while simultaneously reducing carbon emissions at a minimal cost.The findings show that rural logistics will move towards high carbon emissions without a carbon abatement policy,while the huge tax pressure of carbon reduction policies reduces the profitability of rural logistics,leading to a trade-off between development and decarbonization.From the perspective of implementation timing and manner of carbon abatement policies implementation,we propose a pathway for securing the profitability of rural logistics and resolving the trade-off. 展开更多

Factors associated with crash severities in built-up areas along rural highways of Nevada:A case study of 11 towns 被引量:1

No specific crash data are available ... In 2014, 32,675 deaths were recorded in vehicle crashes within the United States. Out of these, 51% of the fatalities occurred in rural highways compared to 49% in urban highways. No specific crash data are available for the built-up areas along rural highways. Due to high fatalities in rural highways, it is important to identify the factors that cause the vehicle crashes. The main objective of this study is to determine the factors associated with se- verities of crashes that occurred in built-up areas along the rural highways of Nevada. Those factors could aid in making informed decisions while setting up speed zones in these built-up areas. Using descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression model, 337 crashes that occurred in 11 towns along the rural highways from 2002 to 2010 were analyzed. The results showed that more crashes occurred during favorable driving conditions, e.g., 87% crashes on dry roads and 70% crashes in clear weather. The binary logistic regression model showed that crashes occurred from midnight until 4 a.m. were 58.3% likely to be injury crashes rather than property damage only crashes, when other factors were kept at their mean values. Crashes on weekdays were three times more likely to be injury crashes than that occurred on weekends. When other factors were kept at their mean value, crashes involving motorcycles had an 80.2% probability of being injury crashes. Speeding was found to be 17 times more responsible for injury crashes than mechanical defects of the vehicle. As a result of this study, the Nevada Department of Transportation now can take various steps to improve public safety, including steps to reduce speeding and encourage the use of helmets for motorcycle riders. 展开更多
