In this research, hierarchical liner model (HLM) was applied to estimate inflecting factors of rural residents littering solid wastes. There are 3 main results: 1) random coefficient model is an effective method to estimate rural residents’ behaviors;2) environmental public policies should be designed by considering of regional differences;3) enhancing education level is an appropriated way to help rural residents stopping illegal littering behaviors.展开更多

Data obtained are fundamental parameters for the planning of urban solid waste management systems in Mexico, complying this way with the established policy in the National Program for Waste Management and Prevention 2009-2012. The study was carried out during five days and two main parameters were assessed: (1) the daily generation rate per person and (2) the waste composition. The per capita waste generation was 0.958 kg for the urban community and 0.631 kg for the rural. The results showed that the mean composition of waste from both locations was statistically similar (a = 0.05). In both locations the most important contribution was the fraction of food waste. In both locations more than 60% of the waste is potentially recyclable. The results of this study will be used by the municipal waste authorities in order to establish an integrated waste management plan.展开更多

Survey results show that RSW generation rates range from 0.25 to 2.1 kg · (capita.d)-1 in different rural villages across regions of China. Total RSW generation has been increasing, which is far higher than official data in 2014. RSW are dominated by food residue and coal ash/cinder/dust (at approximately 70%). Most of RSW are still discarded randomly without any treatment in China. Scattered RSW generation sources, imperfect legislation system, poor infrastructure on treat- ment and disposal are identified as the biggest challenge for RSW management currently in China. To improve RSW management, increasing financial resources, estab- lishing sorting collection and transportation network, promoting sorting collection and recycling, improving treatment technology are proposed as the possible solution.展开更多
