In this paper, metal-free catalysts including organic bases, ionic liquids, supported catalysts, organic copolymers and carbon materials for the synthesis of cyclic carbonates by the cycloaddition of carbon dioxide to epoxides are reviewed. Recent advances in the design of the catalysts and the understanding of the reaction mechanism are summarized and discussed. The synergistic effects of organic bases and hydrogen bond donors, organic bases and nucleophilic anions, hydrogen bond donors and nucleophilic anions and active components and supports are highlighted. The challenge is to develop metal-free catalysts suitable for carbon dioxide capture and fixation. The ultimate goal is to synthesize cyclic carbonates in a flow reactor directly using carbon dioxide from industrial flue gas at ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure. By using synergetic effects, a multi-functional approach can meet the design strategy of metal-free catalysts for carbon dioxide adsorption and activation as well as epoxide ring opening.展开更多

The effects of CeO2 content and reaction temperature on the performance of the Ni-CeO2/Al2O3 catalysts were studied in detail. The results showed that the catalytic performance was strongly dependent on the CeO2 content in Ni-CeO2/Al2O3 catalysts and that the catalysts with 2 wt% CeO2 had the highest catalytic activity among the tested ones at 350 ℃. The XRD and H2-TPR characterizations revealed that the addition of CeO2 decreased the reduction temperature by altering the interaction between Ni and Al2O3, and improved the reducibility of the catalyst. Preliminary stability test of 120 h on stream over the Ni-2CeO2/Al2O3 catalyst at 350 ℃ revealed that the catalyst was much better than the unpromoted one.展开更多

N_2 physisorption and CO chemisorption were carried out to investigate the pore size distribution and the ruthenium dispersion of the catalysts. It was found that the Ru dispersion of the catalyst was closely related to not only the texture of carbon support but also the purity of activated carbon. The activities of a series of the carbon-supported barium-promoted Ru catalysts for ammonia synthesis were measured at 425 ℃, 10 0 MPa and 10 000 h -1. The result shows that the same raw material activated carbon, with a high purity, high surface area, large pore volume and reasonable pore size distribution might disperse ruthenium and promoter sufficiently, which activated carbon as support, could be used to manufacture ruthenium catalyst with a high activity for ammonia synthesis. The different raw material activated carbon as the support would greatly influence the catalytic properties of the ruthenium catalyst for ammonia synthesis. For example, with coconut shell carbon(AC1) as the support, the ammonia concentration in the effluent was 13 17% over 4%Ru-BaO/AC1 catalyst, while with the desulfurized coal carbon(AC10) as the support, that in the effluent was only 1 37% over 4%Ru-BaO/AC10 catalyst.展开更多

The defective CNTs-D supported Ba–Ru/CNTs-D catalysts exhibit superior catalytic performance in ammonia synthesis with a TOF be increased up to 0.30 s-1, which is 2.5 times of oxidized CNTs-O supported Ba–Ru/CNTs-O catalysts and 5 times of the Ba–Ru/CNTs. The characterizations by CO chemisorption, transmission electron microscope, Raman, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed that the uniformly well dispersed Ru NPs can be stabilized on the defective sites of CNTs-D. The great improvement of the catalytic performance and stability of the Ba–Ru/CNTs-D is contributed to the strong interaction between Ru NPs and surface defect of the CNTs.展开更多

However, Pt-based catalysts have several shortcomings, such as high cost, scarcity, and poor long-term stability. Therefore, development of e cient metal-free electrocatalysts to replace Pt-based electrocatalysts is important. In this study, we successfully prepared nitrogen-and fluorinecodoped microporous carbon nanofibers(N, F-MCFs) via electrospinning polyacrylonitrile/polyvinylidene fluoride/polyvinylpyrrolidone(PAN/PVDF/PVP) tricomponent polymers followed by a hydrothermal process and thermal treatment, which was achieved for the first time in the literature. The results indicated that N, F-MCFs exhibit a high catalytic activity(E_(onset): 0.94 V vs. RHE, E_(1/2): 0.81 V vs. RHE, and electron transfer number: 4.0) and considerably better stability and methanol tolerance for ORR in alkaline solutions as compared to commercial Pt/carbon(Pt/C, 20 wt%) catalysts. Furthermore, in acidic media, N, F-MCFs showed a four-electron transfer pathway for ORR. This study provides a new strategy for in situ synthesis of N, F-MCFs as highly e cient metal-free electrocatalysts for ORR in fuel cells.展开更多

Addit...Doping effects of manganese (Mn) on catalytic performance and structure evolution of NiMgO catalysts for synthesis of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) from methane were investigated for the first time. Addition of Mn in NiMgO catalyst can greatly improve the MWCNTs yield. Mno.2NiMgO catalyst among the tested ones gives the highest MWCNTs yield as 2244%, which is two times higher than that of the catalyst without Mn. The structure evolution, reduction behaviors and surface chemical properties of MnNiMgO catalysts with various Mn contents were studied in detail. It was found that the stable solid solution of NiMgO2 formed in NiMgO catalyst was disturbed by the addition of Mn. Instead, another solid solution of MnMg608 is formed. More amount of Ni can be reduced and dispersed on the catalyst surface to be acted as active sites. Importantly, the changes of Ni content on the surface are correlated with the Ni particle size and the outer diameter of MWCNTs, suggesting the controllable synthesis of MWCNTs over MnNiMgO catalysts.展开更多

Herein, we report a flexible bifunctional oxygen catalyst thin film consisting of Co–N–C bifunctional catalysts embedding in carbon nanotube(CNT) networks. The catalyst is readily prepared by pyrolysis of cobalt-based zeolitic imidazolate frameworks(ZIF-67) that are in-situ synthesized in CNT networks. Such catalyst film demonstrates very high catalytic activities for oxygen reduction(onset potential: 0.91 V, and half-wave potential: 0.87 V vs. RHE) and oxygen evolution(10 m Acm^-2 at 1.58 V) reactions, high methanol tolerance property, and long-term stability(97% current retention). Moreover, our integrated catalyst film shows very good structure flexibility and robustness. Based on the obtained film air electrodes, flexible Zn–air batteries demonstrate low charging and discharging overpotentials(0.82 V at 1 m A cm^-1) and excellent structure stability in the bending tests. These results indicate that presently reported catalyst films are potential air electrodes for flexible metal–air batteries.展开更多

文摘The development of efficient and stable non-mercury catalysts for the chlor-alkali industry is desirable but remains a great challenge.Herein,we design a series of ruthenium catalysts for acetylene hydrochlorination by regulating the electronic structure of ruthenium ions through coordination with various ligands(thiourea, phenanthroline, and L-lactic).The turnover frequencies(TOFs)and apparent activation energies for the acetylene hydrochlorination have a linear relationship with the binding energy of Ru3+in the ruthenium catalysts. The synergetic effect of the ruthenium ion and ligands plays an important role in acetylene hydrochlorination. The Ru-Thi/AC catalyst with thiourea as the ligand shows the highest TOF and stability in acetylene hydrochlorination. The present study provides a rational method to regulate the electronic structure of supported metal catalysts with high catalytic performance exhibited by the carbon-supported heterogeneous catalysts.

文摘A carbon-supported Ru catalyst, Ru/BP2000, is able to simultaneously convert cellobiose into sorbitol and gluconic acid. This reaction occurs as the result of hydrolytic disproportionation in water at 393 K under an Ar atmosphere, without bases or sacrificial reagents. In-situ XANES measurements suggest that the active Ru species involved is composed of partially oxidized Ru metal.
文摘The bimetallic catalysts prepared from SiO_2-supported Ru-Co,Ru- Fe and Ru-Mo carbonyl clusters exhibited high yields and selectivities towards oxygenates such as C_1-C_5 from CO+H_2,in contrast to the catalysts prepared from homometallic and bimetallic Ru,Ru-Ni,Ru-Rh,Ru-Mn,and Ru- Cr carbonyl clusters. The FTIR investigation revealed that the 1584 cm^(-1) species plays an important role in the formation of oxygenates in CO hydrogenation, which is possibly assigned to surface formyl species.

文摘The aim of "green chemistry" and "atom economy" is to utilize carbon dioxide and replace harmful reactants such as CO and phosgene for the production of cyclic carbonates. By using synergetic effects, a multi-functional approach can meet the design strategy of metal-free catalysts for carbon dioxide adsorption and activation as well as epoxide ring opening.

文摘Nitrogen(N)-doped carbon materials as metal catalyst supports have attracted signifi cant attention, but the eff ect of N dopants on catalytic performance remains unclear, especially for complex reaction processes such as Fischer-Tropsch synthesis(FTS).Herein,we engineered ruthenium(Ru)FTS catalysts supported on N-doped carbon overlayers on TiO_(2)nanoparticles.By regulating the carbonization temperatures,we successfully controlled the types and contents of N dopants to identify their impacts on metal-support interactions(MSI).Our fi ndings revealed that N dopants establish a favorable surface environment for electron transfer from the support to the Ru species. Moreover, pyridinic N demonstrates the highest electron-donating ability, followed by pyrrolic N and graphitic N.In addition to realizing excellent catalytic stability, strengthening the interaction between Ru sites and N dopants increases the Ru^(0)/Ru^(δ+)ratios to enlarge the active site numbers and surface electron density of Ru species to enhance the strength of adsorbed CO.Consequently,it improves the catalyst’s overall performance, encompassing intrinsic and apparent activities,as well as its ability for carbon chain growth.Accordingly, the as-synthesized Ru/TiO_(2)@CN-700 catalyst with abundant pyridine N dopants exhibits a superhigh C_(5+)time yield of 219.4 mol CO/(mol Ru·h)and C_(5+)selectivity of 85.5%.

文摘The Ni-CeO2/Al2O3 catalysts with a nickel content of 15 wt% prepared via impregnating boehmite were found to be highly active and stable for methanation of carbon dioxide with hydrogen at a H2/CO2 molar ratio of 4. Preliminary stability test of 120 h on stream over the Ni-2CeO2/Al2O3 catalyst at 350 ℃ revealed that the catalyst was much better than the unpromoted one.

文摘Ten kinds of activated carbon from different raw materials were used as supports to prepare ruthenium catalysts. For example, with coconut shell carbon(AC1) as the support, the ammonia concentration in the effluent was 13 17% over 4%Ru-BaO/AC1 catalyst, while with the desulfurized coal carbon(AC10) as the support, that in the effluent was only 1 37% over 4%Ru-BaO/AC10 catalyst.

文摘Carbon nanotubes(CNTs) with abundant surface defects are prepared by a liquid oxidation and thermal annealing method. The great improvement of the catalytic performance and stability of the Ba–Ru/CNTs-D is contributed to the strong interaction between Ru NPs and surface defect of the CNTs.

文摘Currently, the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR) mainly depends on precious metal platinum(Pt) catalysts. This study provides a new strategy for in situ synthesis of N, F-MCFs as highly e cient metal-free electrocatalysts for ORR in fuel cells.

文摘Doping effects of manganese (Mn) on catalytic performance and structure evolution of NiMgO catalysts for synthesis of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) from methane were investigated for the first time. Importantly, the changes of Ni content on the surface are correlated with the Ni particle size and the outer diameter of MWCNTs, suggesting the controllable synthesis of MWCNTs over MnNiMgO catalysts.

文摘The ternary catalyst Pt75Ru5Ni20 was conducted on various types of carbon supports including functionalized Vulcan XC-72R(f-CB),functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes(f-MWCNT),and mesoporous carbon(PC-Zn-succinic)by sodium borohydride chemical reduction method to improve the ethanol electrooxidation reaction(EOR)for direct ethanol fuel cell(DEFC).It was found that the particle size of the metals on f-MWCNT was 5.20 nm with good particle dispersion. The alloy formation of ternary catalyst was confirmed by XRD and more clearly described by SEM element mapping, which was relevant to the efficiency of the catalysts. Moreover, the mechanism of ethanol electrooxidation reaction based on the surface reaction was more understanding. The activity and stability for ethanol electrooxidation reaction(EOR)were investigated using cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry, respectively. The highest activity and stability for EOR were observed from Pt75Ru5Ni20/f-MWCNT due to a good metal-carbon interaction.Ru and Ni presented in Pt-Ru-Ni alloy improved the activity and stability of ternary catalysts for EOR.Moreover, the reduction of Pt content in ternary catalyst led to the catalyst cost deduction in DEFC.
文摘The Co-incorporated Ce1-xZrxO2 catalysts were prepared by co-precipitation for carbon dioxide reforming of methane. The ratio of Ce to Zr was varied to optimize the performances of co-precipitated Co-Ce-Zr-Ox catalysts. The prepared catalysts were characterized by various physico-chemical characterization techniques including TPR,X-ray diffraction,N2 adsorption at low temperature,XPS and CO2-TPSR.The co-precipitated Co-Ce0.8Zr0.2O2 sample containing 16% CoO exhibited a higher catalytic activity among the five catalysts, and the activity was maintained without significant loss during the reaction for 60 h.Under the conditions of 750 ℃,0.1 MPa,36000 ml/(h gcat),and CO2/CH4 molar ratio of 1:1,the CO2 conversion over this catalyst was 75% while the CH4 conversion was 67%.The cubic Ce0.8Zr0.2O2 facilitated a higher dispersion and a higher reducibility of the cobalt component, and the apparent activation energy for Co-Ce0.8Zr0.2O2 sample was 49.1 kJ/mol in the CO2/CH4 reforming reaction. As a result, the Co-Ce0.8Zr0.2O2 sample exhibited a higher activity and stability for the reforming of CH4 with CO2.
文摘Dehydrogenation of ethane to ethylene in CO_2 was investigated overCeO_2/γ-Al_2O_3 catalysts at 700℃ in a conventional flow reactor operating at atmosphericpressure. XRD, BET and microcalori-metric adsorption techniques were used to characterize thestructure and surface acidity/basicity of the CeO_2/γ-Al_2O_3 catalysts. The results show that thesurface acidity decreased while the surface basicity increased after the addition of CeO_2 toγ-Al_2O_3. Accordingly, the activity of the hydrogenation reaction of CO_2 increased, which mightbe responsible for the enhanced conversion in the dehydrogenation of ethane to ethylene. The highestethane conversion obtained was about 15% for the 25%CeO_2/γ-Al_2O_3. The selectivity to ethylenewas high for all the CeO_2, γ-Al_2O_3 and CeO2/γ-Al_2O_3 catalysts.

文摘Recently, the development of high-performance bifunctional oxygen catalysts integrated with flexible conductive scaffolds f or rechargeable metal-air batteries has attracted considerable interest, driving by fastgrowing wearable electronics. These results indicate that presently reported catalyst films are potential air electrodes for flexible metal–air batteries.
