Calculation of passive earth pressure of cohesive soil based on Culmann's method

Based on the sliding plane hypothesis of Coulumb earth pressure theory, a new method for calculation of the passive earth pressure of cohesive soil was constructed with Culmann＇s graphical construction. The influences of the cohesive force, adhesive force, and the fill surface form were considered in this method. In order to obtain the passive earth pressure and sliding plane angle, a program based on the sliding surface assumption was developed with the VB.NET programming language. The calculated results from this method were basically the same as those from the Rankine theory and Coulumb theory formulas. This method is conceptually clear, and the corresponding formulas given in this paper are simple and convenient for application when the fill surface form is complex.

REMARKS ON BOUNDS ON THE DISCREPANCY OF APPROXIMATE SOLUTIONS CONSTRUCTED BY GODUNOV'S SCHEME

The bounds on the discrepancy of approximate solutions constructed by Gedunov's scheme to IVP of isentropic equations of gas dynamics are obtained, Three well-knowu results obtained by Lax for shock waves with small jumps for general quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws are extended to shock waves for isentropic equations of gas dynamics in a bounded invariant region with ρ=0 as one of boundries of the region. Two counterexamples are given to show that two iuequalities given by Godunov do not hold for all rational numbers γ∈(1, 3]. It seems that the approach by Godunov to obtain the forementioned bounds may not be possible.

In situ construction of porous hierarchical(Ni3-xFex)FeN/Ni heterojunctions toward efficient electrocatalytic oxygen evolution

As a choke point in water electrolysis,the oxygen evolution reaction(OER)suffers from the severe electrode polarization and large overpotential.Herein,the porous hierarchical hetero-(Nis Fe)FeN/Ni catalysts are in situ constructed for the eficient electrocatalytic OER.X-ray absorption fine structure characterizations reveal the strong Ni-Fe bimetallic interaction in(Niz Fex)FeN/Ni.Theoretical study indicates the heterojunction and bimetallic interaction decrease the free-energy change for the rate-limiting step of the OER and the overpotential thereof.In addition,the high conductivity and porous hierarchical morphology favor the electron transfer,electrolyte access and O2 release.Consequently,the optimized catalyst achieves a low overpotential of 223 mV at 10 mA.cm^-2,a small Tafel slope of 68 mV:dec^-1,and a high stability.The excellent performance of the optimized catalyst is also demonstrated by the overall water electrolysis with a low working voltage and high Faradaic efficiency.Moreover,the correlation between the structure and performance is well established by the experimental characterizations and theoretical calculations,which confirms the origin of the OER activity from the surface metal oxyhydroxide in situ generated upon applying the current.This study suggests a promising approach to the advanced OER electrocatalysts for practical applications by constructing the porous hierarchical metal-compound/metal heterojunctions.

A Review of Housing Construction in China's Cities

In this article,the author briefly reviews the urban housing construction in the 40 yearssince the founding of New China,especially over the recent ten years.He puts emphasis on theanalysis of the benefits and defects brought about by the financing and banking system for urbanhousing construction before and during the reform of housing system.
