Alpha-synuclein and Parkinson disease

OBJECTIVE： To review the recent progresses on the studies of α -synuclein in the pathogenesis of Parkinson disease （PD） and look into the perspective of α -synuclein as a new therapy target. DATA SOURCES： To search the literatures on the progresses of PD studies, especially on the structure, gene expression of α-synuclein and the pathogenesis of PD in Medline from January 1998 to February 2007. Search terms were ＂Parkinson＇s disease, α-synuclein＂ in English. STUDY SELECTION： Initial check the data and choose the original and review articles directly linked to the role of α-synuclein in PD pathogenesis and screening out indirectly discussing articles. Collect the full text and trace the quoting articles and the quoted articles. Only the latest reviews were chosen in Chinese articles. DATA EXTRACTION： There were 424 articles on α-synuclein and its role in the pathogenesis of PD and 43 articles directly related with α-synuclein were chosen among which 12 were reviews. DATA SYNTHESIS： α-synuclein is a kind of soluble protein expressed in pre-synapse in central nervous system encoded by gene in homologous chromosome 4q21. It has physiological function in modulating the stability of membrane and neural plasticity. There is a close relationship between gene mutation in α -synuclein and the pathogenesis of PD. Environmental and genetic factors can induce the misfolding of α-synuclein, and secondary structural change can result in oligomer formation which induces a series of cascade reaction to damage dopaminergic system subsequently. Cell and animal transgenic and non-transgenic models are established recently and the important role of α-synuclein in the pathogenesis both of familial and sporadic PD is confirmed. Studies reveal that inhibiting the aggregation of α-synuclein can prevent its neurotoxicity; gene parkin can intercept the cell death pathway triggered by the aggregation of α-synuclein in cytoplasm. CONCLUSION： Gene mutation ofα-synuclein and the impairment in its structure and function are important in the pathogenesis of PD. Intervention of the gene mutations and abnormal protein aggregation ofα-synuclein may be a new strategy for preventing and treating PD.

Application of Well-Known Antiviral Drugs in the Field Formed by the Unexplained Properties of Low-Level Laser Radiation in Therapy of Covid-19 and Chronic Viral Hepatitis

Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) or cold laser has been used in medicine for several decades. However, the method utilizes a direct contact of the light beam with a patient. Further research resulted in development of another method that enables remote transmission of the pharmacological properties of a medicament into a human body with the application of low-level laser radiation as the light source. 18 patients with different viral diseases were treated with the antiviral drugs placed into the field formed by the unexplained properties of low-level laser radiation of the “device for transfer of the pharmacological properties of a drug into the patient’s body”. This resulted in improvement of the patient’s condition, the absence of side effects and adverse reactions when using drugs in the proposed device and shortened therapy period for patients with chronic hepatitis C infection and Covid-19 patients. The long-term follow-up of the patients with chronic hepatitis B infection showed that hepatitis B virus remained at low replication levels under the influence of the therapy, which made it possible to avoid such formidable complications of the disease as cirrhosis of the liver and liver cancer.

In his Antichrist and Nymphomaniac, Lars von Trier seems to defy norms on sex and women＇s desires. However he actually reproduces Christianity＇s perspective that women are sinful by their dispositions. According to the classical creation story, Eve falls into temptation and then, convinces Adam to commit the same crime. All Abrahamic religions but especially Christianity identifies women with the body and bodily desires, rather than the mind which comes from nonmaterial and divine substance. Accordingly, women can easily be deceived by Satan since they contain a lesser amount of mental substance compared to men. In Antichrist, Trier reiterates the story of Adam and Eve in a different context. The woman writes her dissertation on women who are burnt with the accusation of being a witch. But she realizes that her body is sinful and deserving of punishment, too. She finds her salvation when she cuts her clitoris. In Nymphomaniac, the main character gets her clitoris whipped. While she resists traditional and bourgeois morality, she defines herself as morally evil because of her unmanageable sexual desires. Thus, reputed as critical of all social structures and morality, Trier in fact simply rehashes the classical sexist and misogynist perspective.

Can Persistent Children Hyperglycemia Be Induced by Causes Other Than Pancreas Failure?

In this work, children’s persistent hyperglycemia has been revised using the available literature to support the proposed reasoning. Based on this study, we have shown that the human glycemic management system must be seen as coupled and integrated by four subsystems, namely, production system, consumption system, distribution system, control system, and also it should be seen as coupled to external noxious factors/stressors, if not we show that the glycemic homeostasis analysis might be defective and might induce, in many cases, a misdiagnosis of the causes of the persistent hyperglycemia under consideration. Also, in this work, some considerations were presented to show that anomalies in the cerebral glycemic control through the glucose sensor neurons might be a possible cause/origin of some of the glycemic abnormalities and dysfunctions (however, not only the known related hypoglycemia but also hyperglycemia) that occur in childhood. Finally, it is shown that persistent novel external noxious factors of modernity or noxious factors already known, but amplified by modernity, such as persistent stress, media induced fears, and phobias, environmental pollution, and electromagnetic pollution, can and should also be considered as possible precursors for the development of anomalies in the juvenile homeostatic glycemic system that might well be, if intense and persistent, the driver of the worldwide observed T1DM epidemic events.

The Graphical Method for Decision of Restitution Coefficient and Its Applications

In this paper we present a graphical method for decision of restitution coefficient based on ODE. To simulate and illustrate our proposed method and efficient characteristics that demonstrate for two colliding bodies we used MatLab. In simulation to approach to the real case we used an assumption of additional virtual body’s position and velocity for characterizing material of the body which is involved to express the restitution coefficient. The graphic animation program is developed based on ODE for the computer simulation of the proposed graphical method. Additionally, we determined this new characteristic for some sport game balls such as basketball, volleyball, etc.

The role of quercetin on the survival of neuron-like PC12 cells and the expression of α-synuclein

Both genetic and environmental factors are important in the pathogenesis of Parkinson＇s disease. As α-synuclein is a major constituent of Lewy bodies, a pathologic hallmark of Parkinson＇s disease, genetic aspects of α-synuclein is widely studied. However, the influence of dietary factors such as quercetin on α-synuclein was rarely studied. Herein we aimed to study the neuroprotective role of quercetin against various toxins affecting apoptosis, autophagy and aggresome, and the role of quercetin on α-synuclein expression. PC12 cells were pre-treated with quercetin（100, 500, 1,000 μM） and then together with various drugs such as 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium（MPP＋; a free radical generator）, 6-hydroxydopamine（6-OHDA; a free radical generator）, ammonium chloride（an autophagy inhibitor）, and nocodazole（an aggresome inhibitor）. Cell viability was determined using a 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyltertazolium bromide（MTT） assay. Apoptosis was detected by annexin V-fluorescein isothiocyanate and propidium iodide through the use of fluorescence activated cell sorter. α-Synuclein expression was detected by western blot assay and immunohistochemistry. The role of α-synuclein was further studied by knocking out α-synuclein using RNA interference. Cell viability increased at lower concentrations（100 and 500 μM） of quercetin but decreased at higher concentration（1,000 μM）. Quercetin exerted neuroprotective effect against MPP＋, ammonium chloride and nocodazole at 100 μM. MPP＋ induced apoptosis was decreased by 100 μM quercetin. Quercetin treatment increased α-synuclein expression. However, knocking out α-synuclein exerted no significant effect on cell survival. In conclusion, quercetin is neuroprotective against toxic agents via affecting various mechanisms such as apoptosis, autophagy and aggresome. Because α-synuclein expression is increased by quercetin, the role of quercetin as an environmental factor in Parkinson＇s disease pathogenesis needs further investigation.

Study of acupuncture in inducing body responses of Swiss patients

Objective To observe Europeans’ different responses to acupuncture,to analyze body tolerance,and to provide objective basis for clinical intervention temporal frequency of acupuncture-moxibustion in Europe.Methods The information of 168 patients（Swiss original residents） who visited doctor for the first time from December,2013 to June,2015（MediQi AG Die Zentrenfur TCM）was collected,the duration and property of responses to acupuncture were analyzed,and SPSS 18.0 software was adopted to analyze the study result.Results Responses to acupuncture were observed in 65 patients（28 males and 37 females） with an incidence rate of 38.69%（65/168）.According to Chisquared test,the difference was not statistically significant（P〉0.05）.Among the patients with response,49 patients felt fatigue（19 males and 30 females）,12 cases felt sore and swelling pain（7 males and 5 females）,conduction along meridian occurred in 2 patients（1 males and 1 females）,and 1 patient suffered from spasm（male）.Based on statistical analysis,the differences were not statistically significant（all P〉0.05）.The duration of responseis（13.00 ± 12.51）h for male,and（32.81 ± 25.59） h for female,according to t-test,the difference was statistically significant（P〈0.001）.Conclusion The incidence rate and property of responses to acupuncture has nothing to do with gender;the duration of responses to acupuncture is closely related with gender,and the duration of responses to acupuncture is longer in females.

A Quasi-Funk's Section Theorem in n-Complex Space

The Funk＇s section theorem in the n-complex space Cn is investigated. It turns out that this theorem does not admit an extension for the class of general origin-symmetric star bodies in Cn but for a class of star bodies called generalized complex intersection bodies. A quasi-version of Funk＇s section theorem in Cn is established then.
