A wide band Frequency Reconfigurable Rectangular Slotted Self Similar Antenna has been proposed in this paper. The rectangular slotted patch is repeated for two iterations at different scales and is separated by means of Radio Frequency Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (RF MEMS) switches in order to provide reconfigurability. The antenna can operate in three frequency bandsi.e. K-band, Ku-band and Ka-band by altering the states of RF MEMS switches. To avoid fringing effects and to improve antenna performance, quarter wavelength (λ/4) spacing is required between the antenna and the ground plane. However, a Reconfigurable Antenna requires different λ/4 spacing which is difficult to achieve using a common ground plane. So the Frequency Reconfigurable antenna is integrated with high impedance surface (HIS) like Electronic Band Gap (EBG) structures to suppress standing waves and surface waves with a unified profile thickness of 1.75 mm. The overall dimension of the proposed antenna along with RF MEMS Switch, feed element and HIS is about 8 mm × 8 mm × 1.75 mm. The simulated results of the proposed antenna reveal enhancement in antennas performance like Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR), Front to Back Ratio (FBR) and bandwidth when it is placed over HIS EBG. Also the radiation patterns of the proposed antenna when placed over EBG shows the suppression of side lobe and backward radiation.展开更多

By adjusting the value of varactor diode on the QLQC feed network, both the wideband LP and CP dielectric resonator antennas( DRA) modes can be achieved. It is worth mentioning that the wideband CP DRA has a stable broadside radiation pattern across the whole operating band where the boresight gain is larger than 3 dBi.展开更多

Our preliminary biological studies showed that Repeated Electromagnetic Field Stimulation (REFMS) applying an EM frequency of 64 MHz and a specific absorption rate (SAR) of 0.4 - 0.9 W/kg decrease the level of amyloid-β peptides (Aβ), which is the most likely etiology of AD. This study emphasizes uniform E/H field and SAR distribution with adequate penetration depth penetration through multiple human head layers driven with low input power for safety treatments. In this work, we performed numerical modeling and computer simulations of a portable Meander Line antenna (MLA) to achieve the required EMF parameters to treat AD. The MLA device features a low cost, small size, wide bandwidth, and the ability to integrate into a portable system. This study utilized a High-Frequency Simulation System (HFSS) in the design of the MLA with the desired characteristics suited for AD treatment in humans. The team designed a 24-turn antenna with a 60 cm length and 25 cm width and achieved the required resonant frequency of 64 MHz. Here we used two numerical human head phantoms to test the antenna, the MIDA and spherical head phantom with six and seven tissue layers, respectively. The antenna was fed from a 50-Watt input source to obtain the SAR of 0.6 W/kg requirement in the center of the simulated brain tissue layer. We found that the E/H field and SAR distribution produced was not homogeneous;there were areas of high SAR values close to the antenna transmitter, also areas of low SAR value far away from the antenna. This paper details the antenna parameters, the scattering parameters response, the efficiency response, and the E and H field distribution;we presented the computer simulation results and discussed future work for a practical model.展开更多

文摘The fifth generation(5G)network communication systems operate in the millimeter waves and are expected to provide a much higher data rate in the multi-gigabit range, which is impossible to achieve using current wireless services, including the sub-6 GHz band.In this work,we briefly review several existing designs of millimeter-wave phased arrays for 5G applications, beginning with the low-profile antenna array designs that either are fixed beam or scan the beam only in one plane. We then move on to array systems that offer two-dimensional(2D)scan capability, which is highly desirable for a majority of 5G applications.Next,in the main body of the paper,we discuss two different strategies for designing scanning arrays, both of which circumvent the use of conventional phase shifters to achieve beam scanning. We note that it is highly desirable to search for alternatives to conventional phase shifters in the millimeter-wave range because legacy phase shifters are both lossy and costly;furthermore, alternatives such as active phase shifters, which include radio frequency amplifiers, are both expensive and power-hungry.Given this backdrop,we propose two different antenna systems with potential for the desired 2D scan performance in the millimeter-wave range. The first of these is a Luneburg lens, which is excited either by a 2D waveguide array or by a microstrip patch antenna array to realize 2D scan capability.Next, for second design,we turn to phased-array designs in which the conventional phase shifter is replaced by switchable PIN diodes or varactor diodes, inserted between radiating slots in a waveguide to provide the desired phase shifts for scanning. Finally,we discuss several approaches to enhance the gain of the array by modifying the conventional array configurations. We describe novel techniques for realizing both one-dimensional(1D)and 2D scans by using a reconfigurable metasurface type of panels.
文摘The advanced design of a 10 × 1 linear antenna array system with the capa-bility of frequency tunability using GT3-23001 liquid crystal (LC) is pro-posed. The design for this reconfigurable wideband antenna array for 5G ap-plications at Ka-band millimeter-wave (mmw) consists of a double layer of stacked patch antenna with aperture coupled feeding. The bias voltage over LC varies from 0 V to 10.6 V to achieve a frequency tunability of 1.18 GHz. The array operates from 25.3 GHz to 33.8 GHz with a peak gain of 19.2 dB and a beamwidth of 5.2<span style="white-space:nowrap;">°</span> at 30 GHz. The proposed reconfigurable antenna ar-ray represents a real and efficient solution for the recent and future mmw 5G networks. The proposed antenna is suitable for 5G base stations in stadiums, malls and convention centers. It is proper for satellite communications and radars at mmw.

文摘A wideband polarization reconfigurable dielectric resonator antenna excited by quasilumped quadrature coupler( QLQC) is proposed. By adjusting the value of varactor diode on the QLQC feed network, both the wideband LP and CP dielectric resonator antennas( DRA) modes can be achieved. By selecting a different feed port,left-and right-handed CP conversion can be realized. It is found that the 10 dB impedance bandwidth of the LP and CP modes are 10. 1% and 44. 9%,respectively.For the CP mode,a very wide 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth of 37. 7% can be obtained which is much larger than that of the microstrip patch counterpart( 3. 8%). It is worth mentioning that the wideband CP DRA has a stable broadside radiation pattern across the whole operating band where the boresight gain is larger than 3 dBi.

文摘The article presents a miniaturized monopole antenna dedicated to modern flexible electronic systems. The antenna combines three fundamental properties in a single structure.Firstly,it is characterized by a compact size compared to the state-of-the-art literature with an overall size of 18×18×0.254 mm3,secondly,the proposed antenna integrates the reconfigurability function of frequency, produced by means of a Positive-IntrinsicNegative(PIN)diode introduced into the radiating element. Thus, the antenna is able to switch between different frequencies and different modes, making it suitable to meet the ever-changing demands of communication systems.third, the antenna is equipped by the property of flexibility. In fact,a conformability test is performed and has demonstrated the stability of the antenna performance under normal and bending conditions. Finally,in order to demonstrate the potential of the proposed antenna,a comparison between the simulated and measured results is made and turned out to be a strong agreement, making the antenna an excellent candidate for future miniaturized rigid and conformal devices.
文摘A polarized reconfigurable patch antenna is proposed in this paper. The proposed antenna is a dual cross-polarized patch antenna with a programmable power divider. The programmable power divider consists of two branch line couplers(BLC)and a digital phase shifter.By adjusting the phase of the phase shifter, the power ratio of the power divider can be changed, and thus the feed power to the antenna input port can be changed to reconfigure the antenna polarization. The phase-controlled power divider and the cross dual-polarized antenna are designed, fabricated and tested, and then they are combined to realize the polarized reconfigurable antenna.By moving the phase of the phase shifter, the antenna polarization is reconfigured into vertical polarization(VP),horizontal polarization(HP),and circular polarization(CP).The test is conducted at the frequency of 915 MHz,which is widely used for simultaneous wireless information and power transfer(SWIPT)in radio-frequency identification(RFID)applications. The results demonstrate that when the antenna is configured as CP,the axial ratio of the antenna is less than 3 dB,and when the antenna is configured as HP or VP,the axial ratio of the antenna exceeds 20 dB.Finally, experiments are conducted to verify the influence of antenna polarization changes on wireless power transmitting. As expected, the reconfigured antenna polarization can help improve the power transmitting efficiency.

文摘In this paper,a self-adaptive method for the Maxwell’s Equations Derived Optimization(MEDO)is proposed. It is implemented by applying the Sequential Model-Based Optimization(SMBO)algorithm to the iterations of the MEDO,and achieves the automatic adjustment of the parameters. The proposed method is named as adaptive Maxwell’s equations derived optimization(AMEDO).In order to evaluate the performance of AMEDO,eight benchmarks are used and the results are compared with the original MEDO method. The results show that AMEDO can greatly reduce the workload of manual adjustment of parameters, and at the same time can keep the accuracy and stability. Moreover, the convergence of the optimization can be accelerated due to the dynamical adjustment of the parameters. In the end,the proposed AMEDO is applied to the side lobe level suppression and array failure correction of a linear antenna array, and shows great potential in antenna array synthesis.

文摘The electric-controlled metasurface antenna array(ECMSAA)with ultra-wideband frequency reconfigurable reflection suppression is proposed and realized.Firstly,an electriccontrolled metasurface with ultra-wideband frequency reconfigurable in-phase reflection characteristics is designed. The element of the ECMSAA is constructed by loading the single electric-controlled metasurface unit on the conventional patch antenna element. The radiation properties of the conventional patch antenna and the reflection performance of electric-controlled metasurface are maintained when the antenna and the metasurface are integrated. Thus, the ECMSAA elements have excellent radiation properties and ultra-wideband frequency reconfigurable in-phase reflection characteristics simultaneously. To take a further step,a 6×10 ECMSAA is realized based on the designed metasurface antenna element.Simulated and measured results prove that the reflection of the ECMSAA is dynamically suppressed in the P and L bands.Meanwhile,high-gain and multi-polarization radiation properties of the ECMSAA are achieved. This design method not only realizes the frequency reconfigurable reflection suppression of the antenna array in the ultra-wide frequency band but also provides a way to develop an intelligent low-scattering antenna.

文摘A composite ceramic with nominal composition of 45.0 wt%(Ba0.5Sr0.5)TiO3–55.0 wt%MgO(acronym is BST–MgO) is sintered for fabricating a frequency reconfigurable aperture-coupled microstrip antenna. The calcined BST–Mg O composite ceramic exhibits good microwave dielectric properties at X-band with appropriate dielectric constant εr around85, lower dielectric loss tan δ about 0.01, and higher permittivity tunability 14.8% at 8.33 k V/cm. An ultrahigh E-field tunability of working frequency up to 11.0%(i.e., from 9.1 GHz to 10.1 GHz with a large frequency shift of 1000 MHz)at a DC bias field from 0 to 8.33 k V/cm and a considerably large center gain over 7.5 d B are obtained in the designed frequency reconfigurable microstrip antenna. These results demonstrate that BST materials are promising for the frequency reconfigurable antenna.

文摘A generalized spectral Green’s function formulation of N-layer substrate structure is given with three dimension sources, which is a set of closed form formulas. A full-wave analysis model for rectangular microstrip antennas covered with N-dielectric layers has been established by using the above spectral Green’s function. The unknown surface current density on the niicrostrip patch for such structure is found as a solution of an integral equation. The input VSWR and radiation patterns of the antenna are also obtained. The numerical results have been verified by the experimental results.
文摘Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a brain disorder that eventually causes memory loss and the ability to perform simple cognitive functions;research efforts within pharmaceuticals and other medical treatments have minimal impact on the disease. This paper details the antenna parameters, the scattering parameters response, the efficiency response, and the E and H field distribution;we presented the computer simulation results and discussed future work for a practical model.
