The Impact of Street Interviews on Chinese EFL Undergraduates’Intercultural Communicative Competence

The study adopts Byram’s Intercultural Communicative Competence(ICC)model as the theoretical framework,and structured interviews were conducted to explore the impact of street interviews on the participants’ICC.Analysis results revealed street interviews help students acquire knowledge in intercultural attitudes,intercultural knowledge,skills of discovery and interaction,and critical cultural awareness,aligning with the four components of Byram’s ICC model.Meanwhile,they have positive perceptions of street interviews.Therefore,street interviews have a positive effect on the development of participants’ICC.

Emotional Value Care to Promote Emotional Communication Between Teachers and Students Under the New Era of Education Mode

With the development of the times and the progress of the society,the ancient education mode can no longer meet the requirements of the times.The concept of educating people must keep pace with the times.The way teachers and students get along is no longer like in ancient times,where teachers teach students to listen.In the new era,it is necessary to build a new model of interaction between teachers and students.If educators pay attention and come to understand students’psychology,listen to students’aspirations,tend to students’emotions,grow in love for education,and treat students from their hearts,they would be able to win the favor of students.Paying attention to students’emotional value can promote emotional communication between teachers and students.It is possible to adapt to the requirements of the new era for the construction of morality and ethics among teachers by caring for students’emotional value.

Revised quantum direct communication scheme with mutual authentication

Based on mutual authentication and dense coding,a novel revised efficient quantum direct communication scheme is proposed.It is composed of two phases：the quantum state distribution process and the direct communication process.The purpose of the former is to authenticate Trent and users to each other,and let the two legitimate users（Alice and Bob）safely share the Bell states.While the latter aims to make direct communication to transmit a secret message between Alice and Bob.In order to prevent from Eve＇s eavesdropping as well as to authenticate each other simultaneously,a decoy photon checking technique is applied.Compared with other analogous protocols,the quantum state distribution process is more simple and feasible and the proposed scheme is more efficient;i.e.,the total efficiency is almost 100%.Security analysis shows that the proposed scheme is secure against the eavesdropping attacks,the impersonation attacks,and some special Trent＇s attacks,including the attacks by using different initial states.

On Teacher's Feedback from the Perspective of Communication

Ergodic Rate Analysis on Applying Antenna Selection in D2D Communication Underlaying Cellular Networks

By reusing the spectrum of a cellular network, device-to-device(D2D) communications is known to greatly improve the spectral efficiency bypassing the base station(BS) of the cellular network. Antenna selection is the most cost efficient scheme for interference management, which is crucial to D2D systems. This paper investigates the achievable rate performance of the D2D communication underlaying the cellular network where a multiple-antenna base station with antenna selection scheme is deployed. We derive an exact closed-form expression of the ergodic achievable rate. Also, using Jensen's inequality, two pairs of upper and lower bounds of the rate are derived and we validate the tightness of the two sets of bounds. Based on the bounds obtained, we analyze the ergodic achievable rate in noise-limited scenario, interference-limited high SNR scenario and larger-scale antenna systems. Our analysis shows that the presence of D2D users could be counter-productive if the SNR at cellular UE is high. Further analysis shows that the relationship between the ergodic rate and the number of antennas it positive, but keeps decreasing as the antenna number increasing. These show the inefficiency of antenna selection in D2D interference management.

On Communication Models

With the development of human society,the social hub enlarges beyond one community to the extent that the world is deemed as a community as a whole.Communication,therefore,plays an increasingly important role in our daily life.As a consequence,communication model or the definition of which is not so much a definition as a guide in communication.However,some existed communication models are not as practical as it was.This paper tries to make an overall contrast among three communication models——Coded Model,Gable's Communication Model and Ostensive Inferential Model,to see how they assist people to comprehend verbal and non-verbal communication.

Understanding the Global Identification with China’s Stories: A Cross-Cultural Perspective

Cross-cultural storytelling is a primary way for humankind to seek mutual recognition of value orientations between cultures,which facilitates the ability to jointly address the problems of human existence in the context of globalization.In this study,we conducted an interview survey of 6,130 respondents who were college students or graduates from 107 countries.The results show that there were a number of cross-cultural values embodied in China’s stories seen by the respondents as part of a common vision for the future of humankind and widely identified guidance on collaborative responses to global challenges.These cross-cultural values are common prosperity,ecological harmony,individual-collective integration,the urgency of global peace,as well as respect for multicultural and indigenous development paths.

English and Chinese Euphemisms and Cross Cultural Communication

As a linguistic phenomenon, euphemism exists in all kinds of languages, so it is widely used by various circles of society. It is not only a linguistic phenomenon, but also a kind of social phenomenon, which is a reflection of the social culture in the language. Euphemism has already penetrated into all aspects of daily life, and reflected different national psychologies and cultural differences. As the development of the society and human civilization and the accelerated process of economic globalization, the role euphemism plays in human communication especially in cross-cultural communication has been increasingly prominent. Here a comparative study on English and Chinese euphemisms is made to help to be familiar with similarities and differences of the use of euphemism in English and Chinese languages so as to reduce errors resulting in cross- culture communication, and improve cross-cultural communicative competence.

Management Communication in University’s Digital Library

Digital library is a process of exploiting more scientific methods to construct a social knowledge network. It represents an “extension” from a traditional library. The core and essence is to build a favorable surroundings for knowledge accumulation, knowledge transfer and knowledge communication. Sustainable Growth in China’s Communications Field: Trend Analysis of Impact of China’s Academic Publications

China＇s cormaaunications industry is an important part of the electronic information industry, and plays a significant role in the national informatization process. In 2006, China issued its National Plans for Medium and Long-term Development of Science and Technology （2006-2020） （NPMLDST）. Since 2006, there has been a rapid increase in the number of citations of China＇s interna- tional papers in the field of communications. In accordance with the goals listed in the NPMLDST, China needs to over- take several competitors by 2020 to be among the top five countries in the field of natural science field. By comparing two Essential Science Indicators （ESI） （i.e., the total number of citations and the number of citations per paper） for China and other countries, China＇s annual growth rate is found to exceed that of other influential countries in the field of sci- ence and technology, and exhibits evident growth-type characteristics. Besides, our study also shows that the short- age of high-quality academic papers in China is the main obstacle to improving the impact of China＇s academic publications.

Generic Framework for Context-Aware Communication Services in Visitor’s Guides

Ubiquitous computing plays an increasing role in our lives. Typically, applications in ubiquitous computing environ-ments are context aware, namely, they react to the situations of their users at a given moment in time. One example for such environment is visitor’s guides in cultural heritage sites, supporting visits of individuals or small groups, such as families or friends. In such environments, it is well known that interaction among visitors enhances the overall visit experience. Recently, some research prototypes of visitor’s guides have started supporting such interaction through textual communication services embedded in them. However, these applications have so far been developed separately in an ad-hoc manner, despite common features and infrastructures they share. The research described here generalizes communication services offered by different visitor’s guides and suggests a systematic and generic framework for developing context-aware communication services for visitor’s guides. The specific communication services are abstracted into a domain model, later used in practice for adapting and tailoring the different concepts to the specific requirements of the applications. The framework is demonstrated in the specific setting of a multi-agent museum visitor’s guide system. We also show that the suggested framework is not limited to the specific museum visitor’s guide system but may facilitate the development of context-aware communication applications in general.

Photonic Communications and Quantum Information Storage Capacities

This paper presents photonic communications and data storage capacitates for classical and quantum communications over a quantum channel. These capacities represent a generalization of Shannon’s classical channel capacity and coding theorem in two ways. First, it extends classical results for bit communication transport to all frequencies in the electromagnetic spectrum. Second, it extends the results to quantum bit (qubit) transport as well as a hybrid of classical and quantum communications. Nature’s limits on the rate at which classical and/or quantum information can be sent error-free over a quantum channel using classical and/or quantum error-correcting codes are presented as a function of the thermal background light level and Einstein zero-point energy. Graphical results are given as well as numerical results regarding communication rate limits using Planck’s natural frequency and time-interval units!

Relevance Theory-based Cognitive Study on the Communication Effect of “China's Stories”

Telling the story of China and transmitting the voice of China has become a strategy to promote the national image and cultural soft power of China. Since its implementation in 2013, China has ushered in a significant change in communication ideas and approaches. This strategy also enriches the communication genres of "China's stories" and more importantly enhances its communication effect. In this context, it is necessary to understand and study the significance of this strategic practice, assess the value realization of "China's stories" during the communication process, and thereby establish a basis for future communication of more "China's stories." Based on the factors of relevance theory, this paper analyzes the ideas of and approaches to effective communication of "China's stories" and proposes corresponding strategies.
