An Integrated Model of Teaching Theory and Action Research in POA-based Textbook Writing

Teaching theories provide important guidance for language teaching materials development,but there is little research on how textbook writers apply teaching theories in the actual writing process.This study analyzes the process of compiling iEnglish,a series of textbooks based on the Production-Oriented Approach(POA)and proposes an Integrated Model of Teaching Theory and Action Research for textbook writing.By elaborating the roles of teaching theory and action research at different stages of textbook writing and the interaction between theory and practice during the process,the study concludes that the Integrated Model can promote both textbook improvement and theory refinement.

Implicit Learning and Explicit Learning in the Context of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language By Analyzing the Textbook Kuaile Hanyu

With the rising status of China in the world in the economic, political and cultural aspects, Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language （TCFL） is becoming more and more prevalent across the world. Britain is the country where the Chinese is taught and learnt earlier than other Western countries. Take the students in Confucius Institute of Newcastle University in UK for example, due to the students＇ different backgrounds and also different ages and language foundations, whether the Chinese teaching materials can meet their motivations and needs is a problem worth further investigation by Chinese language teachers. Therefore, concerning the leamers＇ different ages and cognitive ability, this paper aims to analyze the textbook named Kuaile Hanyu （Happy Chinese） in terms of its advantages and disadvantages, in hope to evaluate whether it is appropriate to different learners and propose a few suggestions for the Chinese materials in the future. Simultaneously, fi＇om perspective of implicit learning and explicit learning, a tentative study is carried out on the influence of implicit and explicit leaming in TCFL context.

In 1976,Halliday and Hassan put forward the concept of cohesion and coherence theory for the first time in their book English Cohesion and discussed five types of cohesion:reference,substitution,omission,conjunction and lexical cohesion.Some scholars enriched and expanded cohesion and coherence from the perspective of cohesion conditions,phonology,structural relations at the level of meaning and discourse.Predecessors pay much attention to the theoretical discussion,while from the perspective of the theoretical application,the cohesion and coherence theory is used for analyzing the advanced college English textbook to provide the guidance for teachers and students in teaching and learning-teachers can judge and adopt appropriate teaching methods according to the cohesion and coherence theory;Students can understand cohesion and coherence in the text as well as the influencing factors,and adequately use the cohesion and coherence mechanism in listening,speaking,reading and writing.

Considerations on College English Listening Teaching in China

Listening teaching is an important part of English teaching in China. However, there are some problems existing in practical listening teaching and textbooks： test-centered teaching and no theories and principles provided by textbooks. In fact, what we are doing in the listening teaching is to test rather than to teach, to foster passive receivers rather than active learners, to teach blindly without theoretical guidance. This article intends to analyze these problems from a theoretical perspective and puts forward some suggestions to solve the present problems.

统编初中语文教材写作板块的修订遵循“守正创新,稳中求进”原则,保留了原教材的优势和特点,落实《义务教育语文课程标准(2022年版)》的理念、目标与要求,在写作观、写作类型、题目设置及写作指导等多个方面进行了调整。具体包括:新增五个写作专题、合并部分重复的内容、剔除过时的专题、改良写作题目以及进一步完善写作指导系统。新教材强调情境任务写作、交际语境写作、思辨写作、创意写作等新型写作,注重培养学生的新型写作能力。为适应新教材,要强化写作教学的重要性,形成写作教学的专门化意识;坚持素养导向,树立写作新理念和新写作教学观;基于循证实践,提高写作教学的专业化水平;基于不同的写作类型,采用相应的写作教学策略;注重写作过程指导和写作支架、活动和策略设计;用足、用好教材,发挥教材资源的主渠道作用。

教材作为教师组织教学活动和学生开展学习活动的重要载体,是达成教学目标的基本依据。以纸质教材为核心,以信息技术和互联网技术为手段,将数字资源与纸质教材充分融合的新形态教材,以其特有优势引领了教育信息化时代教材建设的新趋势。分析了近年来“信号与系统”新形态教材的主要特点,结合教学团队课程理念及建设资源,提出“信号与系统”课程新形态教材的建设路径,坚持内容为本、立足翻转课堂、融合信息技术、强化知识连通、促进泛在学习、赋能教学评价,并探讨新形态教材在教学中的应用成效。

中国革命传统作品的教育价值及其教学实现——以高中语文教学为例

中国革命传统作品蕴含独特的教育价值,但在实际的语文教学中并未得到应有的重视。为有效实现和充分彰显中国革命传统作品的教育价值,语文教师在进行相关教学时,应以习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想为指导,以《革命传统进中小学课程教材指南》为指引,以《普通高中语文课程标准(2017年版2020年修订)》为方向,以统编高中语文教材为依托,以当下高中语文教学现状为问题导向,从德育价值、美育价值、史学价值、文化价值四个维度深入挖掘中国革命传统作品的教育潜力。中国革命传统作品教育价值的四个维度具有整体性、层次性、交互性和生成性,彼此之间存在着相互联系、相互依存和相互生成的结构关系,共同形成中国革命传统作品巨大的教育潜力。教师可通过巧妙整合文本资源、精心创设教学情境、有序组织实践活动,最大化实现中国革命传统作品的教育价值,增强学生对中国革命传统作品的价值认同,使之能够赓续红色血脉、践行革命精神,最终成长为德智体美劳全面发展的社会主义建设者和接班人。

Grammar Instruction and Evaluation of an EFL Textbook of China

By examining recent studies on grammar instruction, which reflect the waxing and waning of grammar instruction in history, and some new teaching approaches and techniques in grammar teaching, this paper concludes that grammar instruction does make a difference to foreign language teaching and thus is important and necessary for Chinese leamers, especially English majors, to develop their ability of using the language accurately and fluently in real life. And on the basis of it, this paper evaluates an EFL textbook of China in terms of some grammar teaching approaches and techniques to illustrate the application and practice of these new perspectives and new teaching approaches and techniques in Chinese foreign language teaching and leaming.

The peculiarities of the newly compiled textbooks for English classrooms in China

Flexible and original thinking is the key to outstanding textbooks design. In order to teach English effectively, this paper discusses the changes, features and the effect of the function of new English textbooks and the strategies of addressing the problems arising between foreign and native English textbooks, and offers a framework for students that is not restrictive but allows them to develop their own individual learning process without the restrictions that teachers encounter so often in prescriptive teaching.

Topic Preferences of Turkish ELT Students and Teachers in Text Books

Materials have a fundamental role in learning a language. Text books are the key particiiaants of the materials in language instructions. In recent years many language professionals have supported language learners with a choice in their own learning process. That is, students would choose the topics according to their needs and interests. In developing reading skills in a if,reign language, degree of interest is taken as an important factor in raising motivation. This study aims to report on the preferences of Turkish ELT （English Language Teaching） students and teachers in text book topics and to raise awareness of the language teachers about the motivating aspects of topic selection in the language classroom

A Variety of Cultures Represented in English Language Textbooks： A Critical Study at Saudi University

Textbooks material is one of the important issues that are worthy to investigate in order to enrich student＇s engagement and interaction in EFL （English as a Foreign Language） classrooms. In this study, the author argues that textbooks materials used in academic institutions may well take a significant part in generating an active environment in EEL classrooms. It is believed that more opportunities will be created for students to be more involved, active, and able to understand the content being addressed more effectively. Yet, by looking at the textbooks being utilised （at a university context where the author teaches）, one can notice that student＇s culture （Eastern） is to a large extent missing in these textbooks, most of these books instead represent dominantly ＂Western＂ culture namely American and British cultures. This can deafly be depicted by topics discussed, pictures, clothing, names, and many other issues portrayed in these textbooks. This study is an attempt to challenge and problematize such domination of Western cultures portrayed in the content of English textbooks used in academic institutions not merely within Saudi Arabia but also extended to other countries and nations in the world.
