The Islamic Religion in Course Curriculums of High School History Textbooks in the Republic of Macedonia

History textbooks can and primarily should contribute to the strengthening of students’awareness of universal human values.However,history textbooks can also deepen the divisions,prejudices,and uncritical attitudes,contrary to the goals of education.The youth population,which is still building and creating their point of view towards the world is the main group in the education process.The learning period,in the elementary,as well as in the secondary education is of utmost importance for the development of every human.To that end,history,through the contents of the past largely shapes our perceptions of every individual,ourselves,and the others.Since we are living in a multiethnic and multi-confessional society,I have decided to conduct an analysis of the teaching contents of high school textbooks related to religion.Another reason for the analysis is the role of religion in the formation of Balkan nations,which have made it one of the key elements of their national identities.It is often given the role of raising and strengthening the national awareness,patriotism,as well as the country homogeneity,which most often leads to forming prejudices,divisions,and discrimination towards people of minority religions.The large volume of content related to the religion,and also the mere fact that Muslims are the second largest religion group in the population,I have decided to analyze the contents which are related only to the Islamic religion.The goal is to look for both the positive and negative sides of those contents in history textbooks in secondary schools,which are backed by state institutions that are supposed to take care of the development of competitive,creative,progressive,and ethically formed human potential.The critical review will give an additional impulse to the efforts of eliminating those parts of the teaching contents that create divisions and prejudices,especially in history textbooks,so that its studying can become the key factor in the building of trust between people of different religions.

The Existing Problems and Optimization Paths of Digital Textbooks Under Background of Internet

With the rapid development of information technology,the combination of terminal technology,big data and mobile Internet and textbooks has become an irresistible trend in the modern education field.Under the context of the Internet,carrying out education and teaching activities based on digital textbooks can give full play to the rich media,openness and interaction of digital textbooks,broaden students′horizon,enrich students′knowledge,and promote the improvement of students′ability and all-round development.However,in the specific teaching practice,there are also problems such as old compilation ideas,single compilation mode and low efficiency of personalized learning.Therefore,schools and teachers need to constantly innovate the presentation and arrangement of digital textbooks,strengthen technical support,deepen students′understanding of the teaching content of digital textbooks,promote the comprehensive development of students and improve the effectiveness of digital textbook teaching.

Knowledge Graph Analysis of International Chinese Language Textbooks Based on CiteSpace

Drawing upon relevant papers from Chinese core journals and CSSCI source journals in the CNKI China Academic Journals Full-Text Database spanning from 1992 to 2023,this study utilizes CiteSpace as a research tool to visually analyze the knowledge graph structure of research on international Chinese language textbooks in China.The study maps out the publication timeline,authors,institutions,collaborative networks,and keywords pertaining to research on international Chinese language textbooks.The findings indicate that research on international Chinese language textbooks commenced early and continues to maintain a certain level of research interest,yet lacks sufficient research output.Research institutions predominantly reside in universities and publishing groups specializing in language or education,with collaboration between institutions being relatively scarce.High-frequency keywords in recent research on international Chinese language textbooks include“Chinese language textbooks for the Foreigners,”“Chinese language textbooks,”“Teaching Chinese Language for the Foreigners,”“Textbook compilation,”“International Chinese Language Education and Localization,”which reflect a diversified research perspective with interdisciplinary trends.Future research priorities encompass research on localization,customization of textbooks,and evaluation of textbooks which represent forefront directions of research.

Break Free from Depression:Implementation and Outcomes of a School-Based Depression Awareness Program

The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of Break Free from Depression(BFFD),a school-based depression awareness curriculum,in comparison to a wait list control group.A total of 13 eighth grade classrooms participated in either an intervention or control group and completed pre-,post-,and three-month follow-up surveys.Students participating in BFFD(N=6 classrooms,166 students)demonstrated enhanced knowledge of and more adaptive attitudes towards depression compared to the control group(N=7 classrooms,155 students).Participants in the BFFD intervention also demonstrated increases in their confidence in knowing how to seek help for depression and in their intent to seek this help if needed.Slight decreases were found at a three-month follow-up in all scales except for intent to seek help.BFFD was effective regardless of gender,ethnicity,or identification as a member of the LGBTQ community.There was a delayed effect on measured constructs for Black students with gains apparent at three-month follow-up.The findings demonstrated that BFFD had a small but significant positive impact on students’knowledge,skills,and attitudes in seeking support for themselves and for others when faced with signs of depression.The implementation of depression awareness curricula in schools hold promise in promoting student mental health,and it is important to consider factors that might have an impact on outcomes.

The Role and Positioning of Digital Textbooks in Vocational Education in Relation to Teachers

In recent years,with the rapid advancement of digital technologies,digitization in vocational education has become a major trend.Among these advancements,digital textbooks have emerged at the forefront of digitization,significantly impacting both their form and content.This article aims to analyze the existing issues in the use of digital textbooks in vocational education and emphasize the importance of recognizing the vital role of teachers in the wave of digital textbook innovation.It is crucial to clarify the role and positioning of teachers to avoid inadvertently diminishing their classroom significance while prioritizing technological innovations.Teachers should fully leverage the role of digital textbooks as tools for organizing classroom activities and recognize the core and essence of classroom teaching as digital technologies enter the scope of vocational education.By doing so,teachers can contribute to the high-quality development of modern vocational education.

Exploration and Research on Textbook Quality Evaluation Index System Based on Engineering Major in Higher Education

The report of the Chinese 20th National Congress put forward“strengthening the construction and management of textbooks”for the first time,which indicates the importance of textbook construction and highlights the vital position of textbooks in the overall development of the country.From the perspective of textbook quality,and based on the research and analysis of the policy requirements and current evaluation indicators of higher education textbooks,this paper establishes the textbook quality evaluation index system composed of basic indicators and evaluation indicators.This system is based on the principles of science,comprehensiveness,operability,and target-oriented approach.It provides a relatively scientific,objective,and fair reference system for the management and evaluation of textbooks.

Techniques of Activating Textbooks for Intensive Reading

This paper presents four teaching techniques of activating the textbook for intensive reading which include:injecting contemporary elements into the text,relating the text to students' life,questioning about the text challengingly and ingeniously,and spicing up the text.

Cultural Components in EFL Textbooks

The appraisal of textbooks not only before selection, but also after they have been used, is a valuable exercise for any teacher. It provides a greater perception of the book's strengths and weaknesses, which enables the teacher to focus on the weak points and adapt or supplement them accordingly. The paper will provide a detailed evaluation of an EFL textbook focusing on cultural assumptions considering the cultural content and methodology with reference to a specific teaching context by discussing the various aspects of culture reflected in the various components as well as the type of methodology and syllabus design the book follows. Finally, implication and adaptation of this textbook will be argued.

Research on the Writing Textbooks for English Majors at Polytechnics

Textbooks, as one of the important elements for the teaching effects and students' training aim and quality are the main carri-er and means for the realization of teaching objectives. The paper analyzes the problems of currently-used textbooks at the followingthree aspects, textbook users, compiling styles and contents, based on 31 popular English writing textbooks used at Polytechnics as re-search subjects. Aiming to improve textbook quality and English teaching reform at Polytechnics, the paper also puts forward the ideasof compiling English writing textbooks on the basis of Feuerstein's theory.

Developing a school-based drug prevention program to overcome barriers to effective program implementation: The CLIMATE schools: Alcohol module

Although effective school-based alcohol prevention programs do exist, the overall efficacy of these programs has been compromised by implementation failure. The CLIMATE Schools: Alcohol Module was developed to overcome some of the obstacles to high fidelity program implementation. This paper details this development of the CLIMATE Schools: Alcohol Module. The development involved two stages, both of which were considered essential. The first stage, involved reviewing the literature to ensure the program was based on the most effecttive pedagogy and health promotion practice and the second stage involved collaborating with teachers, students and specialists in the area of alcohol and other drugs, to ensure these goals were realised. The final CLIMATE Schools: Alcohol Module consists of computer-driven harm minimisation program which is based on a social influence approach. The program consists of six lessons, each with two components. The first component involves students completing an interactive computer-based program, with the second consisting of a variety of individual, small group and class-based activities. This program was developed to provide an innovative new platform for the delivery of drug education and has proven to be both feasible and effective in the school environment. The success of this program is considered to be testament to this collaborative development approach.

Evaluation of a School-Based Health Education Program for Urban Indigenous Young People in Australia

The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of a school-based health promotion and education program in improving knowledge, attitudes, self-efficacy and behaviours of urban Indigenous young people regarding chronic disease and associated risk factors. A mixed methods approach was adopted for this evaluation;however, this paper will focus on the quantitative aspect of the study. The Deadly Choices? health education program was delivered weekly at six education facilities in Brisbane, Australia to participants from years seven to 12 over seven weeks. One school that received the Deadly Choices program the following term acted as the control group. Questionnaire data was collected immediately pre and post intervention to assess program impact. As self-reported by participants there were mostly significant improvements over time for questions relating to knowledge, attitudes and self-efficacy regarding leadership, chronic disease and risk factors within the intervention group. There were also significant changes within the intervention group regarding breakfast frequency (P = 0.002), physical activity frequency (P ≤ 0.001), fruit (P = 0.004) and vegetable (P ≤ 0.001) intake. Overall, there were few significant differences between the control and intervention groups regarding health attitudes and behaviours;however, there were considerably more improvements relating to self-efficacy and knowledge of chronic disease and associated risk factors between groups. The program also facilitated 30 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health checks for participants. Deadly Choices is an innovative and comprehensive school-based program which has great potential to improve the health outcomes of Indigenous young people in urban areas by providing education in leadership and chronic disease prevention;engaging students in physical activity participation;and collaborating with health services to facilitate health checks.

Intervention Effects of the School-Based Health Promotion Program“Join the Healthy Boat”on Motor Abilities of Children with Migration Background

Purpose: Motor abilities of migrant children show worse performance compared with children without migration background. This study investigated whether a one-year intervention, which aimed to increase physical activity (PA), could influence the motor performance of these children positively. Methods: A sub-sample of 525 migrant children (7.1 ± 0.7 years;48.6% male), participated in the study and included an intervention (IG) and control group (CG). The Dordel-Koch-Test was used to assess motor performance. An exploratory factor analysis was performed. Differences between IG and CG were examined using ANCOVA. Results: Boys in the IG showed a significant improvement in the conditional skills (F(1, 201) = 8.02, p ≤ 0.005) and girls showed a tendency towards better results. Additionally, girls showed a significant improvement in flexibility (F(1, 226) = 10.72, p ≤ 0.01) compared with the CG. Conclusion: The intervention affects parts of motor skills of migrant children significantly. Future interventions should aim at a target-group-specific promotion to get a holistic improvement in their motor abilities.

With the rapid development of modern technology,textbooks have been undergoing great changes from the traditionallypaper-based form to the multimodal form.Multimodality has become a major feature of textbook discourse.Multimodal discourseanalysis is a new approach to discourse analysis based on the semiotic theory of systemic functional linguistics.This paper providesa detailed review of multimodal discourse analysis(hereafter MDA) in modern linguistics and some previous researches on textbookdiscourse.Then it further outlines what have already been done on textbook discourse from the perspective of MDA.

Readability Assessment of Textbooks in Low Resource Languages

Readability is a fundamental problem in textbooks assessment.For low resources languages(LRL),however,little investigation has been done on the readability of textbook.In this paper,we proposed a readability assessment method for Tibetan textbook(a low resource language).We extract features based on the information that are gotten by Tibetan segmentation and named entity recognition.Then,we calculate the correlation of different features using Pearson Correlation Coefficient and select some feature sets to design the readability formula.Fit detection,F test and T test are applied on these selected features to generate a new readability assessment formula.Experiment shows that this new formula is capable of assessing the readability of Tibetan textbooks.

Evaluation of a Nutrition Intervention through a School-Based Food Garden to Improve Dietary Consumption, Habits and Practices in Children from the Third to Fifth Grade in Chile

Objective: Use a school-based food garden as an instrument to improve healthy dietary consumption, habits, and practices among children from the third to fifth grade in public schools in Chile. Design: Quasi-experimental, six-month intervention with an evaluation of dietary consumption, habits, and practices and use of the school-based food garden among the 3rd to 5th grade students. Setting: Two municipal schools in a low-middle income district in Santiago de Chile;one with a school garden intervention and a control school without a garden. Subjects: 155 third to fifth grade children, 63 in the intervention school and 92 in the control school (average age 10 years old, 58% boys). Results: In the intervened school, there was a significant improvement in the children’s dietary habits, such as peeling and slicing fruit (p < 0.05), making sandwiches (p < 0.05), and increased motivation to cook (p < 0.05). Fruit purchases at the school rose from 4% to 37% (p < 0.05) by the end of the intervention. Interest in growing vegetables or fruits at home increased from 48% to 70% (p < 0.05). The school children at the intervention school significantly increased their knowledge about 16 of 21 garden crops (p < 0.05), expanding the spectrum of the vegetables they can consume. There were no significant changes in the control school. Conclusions: The school-based food garden was effective in achieving change in dietary habits and practices among the third to fifth grade children. The project should be carried out for a longer period of time, so that the changes will be reflected in the students’ food consumption and nutritional status.

Research on Gymnastics Textbooks for Physical Education Major in Regular Colleges and Universities

As an important part of physical education in regular colleges and universities, gymnastics has played an active role in the development of physical education in colleges and universities. Gymnastics textbooks used in regular colleges and universities has experienced decades of development and needs to be revised and improved under the current physical education situation in colleges and universities, so as to make the content more suitable for needs of college students. This paper adopts literature review, comparative analysis and statistics analysis method to study on the existing gymnastics textbook for physical education major in regular colleges and universities in China by combing development of textbook, summarizing the content and structure, exploring problems existing in the design of textbook in recent years, and then proposing certain improvement suggestions on gymnastics textbook for physical education major.

Is it time for wider acceptance of e-textbooks? An examination of student reactions to e-textbooks

Purpose: This paper attempts to examine perceived benefits,barriers,and students' reactions towards e-textbooks.Design/methodology/approach: This study is based on a survey of 105 undergraduate students in California. Undergraduate students were selected as the subjects of this study,because they are heavy users of textbooks for their course work.Findings: E-textbooks will complement our existing choices rather than substitute printed textbooks. While e-textbooks offer a number of benefits,they also produce many unanticipated challenges. A number of critical hurdles need to be solved before wider acceptance.Research limitations: This study attempts to explore students' reactions to e-textbooks by targeting undergraduate students in California. Future studies can focus on the long-term effects on learning.Practical implications: Considerable attention should be paid to designing features to ensure e-textbooks augment learning rather than detract from it.Originality/value: This paper also looks at the extent to which e-reader users and none e-reader users differ in their preferences for traditional textbooks and e-textbooks.
