The founding of China Institute of Chinese Medicine, known now as the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, was proclaimed in December 1955 in Beijing. Premier ZHOU En-lai commemorated the occasion with his inscription extolling "to carry forward the heritage of Chinese medicine". Just before and after its establishment, the Academy recruited numbers of famous Chinese and Western medicine specialists all over the country to participate in this endeavour. 展开更多

In the field of life sciences, although system biology and "precision medicine" introduce some complex scientific methods and techniques, it is still based on the "analysis–reconstruction" of reductionist theory as a whole. Adaptability of complex system increase system behaviour uncertainty as well as the difficulties of precise identification and control. It also put systems biology research into trouble. To grasp the behaviour and characteristics of organism fundamentally, systems biology has to abandon the "analysis–reconstruction" concept. In accordance with the guidelines of complexity science, systems biology should build organism model from holistic level, just like the Chinese medicine did in dealing with human body and disease. When we study the living body from the holistic level, we will find the adaptability of complex system is not the obstacle that increases the difficulty of problem solving. It is the "exceptional", "right-hand man" that helping us to deal with the complexity of life more effectively. 展开更多

As Chinese nationalists grappled with the political and military weakness of the young Republic of China, some sought to strengthen the Chinese race by advocating a return to the ancient practice of fetal education. Fetal education held that every sight, sound, and flavor that a pregnant mother took in through her senses, as well as her emotions and demeanor, directly affected her fetus. This paper examines how the text Taijiao, Song Jiazhao's 1914 Chinese translation of Shimoda Jirr's Japanese work Taiky6, presents a modern reformulation of fetal education that draws upon both modern Western science and East Asian medicine. As the text uses modern biology and psychology to explain and demonstrate the efficacy of fetal education, it also narrows the scope of fetal education to focus almost exclusively on the mother's psychological state Similarly, as the text turns to instruct women on the practice of fetal education, it draws upon Edo and Qing gynecological principles to emphasise the importance of the pregnant mother's emotional self-control. Ultimately this text represents a neo-traditionalist response to modernity as it presents a Neo-Confucian vision of fetal education focused on a pregnant mother's moral self-cultivation and emotional self control. 展开更多

Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of tendon-regulating and bon e-setting manipulation combined with en dura nee resistance exercises in treating female with chronic neck pain, and explore the mechanism. Methods:A total of 57 female patients with chronic neck pain who met the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into a manipulation group(29 cases)and a medium-frequency electrotherapy group(28 cases).Patients in both groups received the same endura nee exercise therapy, while those in the man ipulation group received additi onalten don-regulating and bone-setting manipulation, and those in the medium-frequency electrotherapy group received additional medium-frequency electrotherapy. Both groups were treated for 5 weeks. Before and after treatment, the neck function of patients was evaluated by visual analog scale(VAS),Analgesy-Meter,Northwick Park questionnaire(NPQ),root mean square(RMS)and median frequency(MF)of surface electromyography of sternocleidomastoid muscle and posterior cervical extensor muscle, and the patients were followed up at a month after treatment. Results:All patients completed the treatment and were followed up.Compared with the same group before treatmerrt, the VAS scores of both groups decreased, the tenderness values increased, the RMS and MF values increased, and the NPQ scores decreased after treatment(all P<0.05).The improvement of manipulation group was more notable than that of medium-frequency electrotherapy group(all P<0.05).At one-month follow-up,the VAS and NPQ scores of the manipulation group were lower than those before and after treatment, and the VAS and NPQ scores of the mediumfreq ue ncy electrotherapy group were only lower than those before treatment;the two scores of the manipulation group were lower than those of the medium-frequency electrotherapy group(both P<0.05).Conclusion:Tendon-regulating and bone-setti ng man ipulati on combi ned with endurance resista nee exe rcises can relieve neck pain and cervical dysfunction in female patients with chronic neck pain. The efficacy of this method is more durable and better than that of medium-frequency electrotherapy combined with enduranee exercises. 展开更多

The predecessors had summed up the systematic tuina manipulations through experiences. In order to study the scientificity and usability of the technology, the researchers established a mathematical model of tuina man ipulati ons, and used video tech no logy to capture the trajectory of the manipulations. Using the mechanical sensor to sense the real manipulations, researchers developed a tuina manipulation in strument and obtained a lot of basic mecha nics data about the man ipulati on tech no logy. Through the summary of the research results of the predecessors, accurate, true and comprehe nsive mecha nical parameters of tech no logy of tuina manipulations were obtained to guide the research and development of instruments of tuina manipulations, and promote the development of the discipline of tuina scienee. 展开更多
