Purpose:The purpose of this paper is to explore how libraries can develop service and product strategies and the service support mechanism to provide industrial technology information service in science parks.Design/m...Purpose:The purpose of this paper is to explore how libraries can develop service and product strategies and the service support mechanism to provide industrial technology information service in science parks.Design/methodology/approach:The analysis is based on a case study of a large Chinese research library,National Science Library(NSL),the Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS),in serving high-tech companies in Zhongguancun Science Park(Z-Park).Findings:NSL’s practices suggested that in serving business clients,libraries’ product and service strategies should be based on the understanding of users’ needs.Aside from those services that have been recognized by clients such as document retrieval & delivery and novelty search,libraries may expand their service and provide in-depth information analysis and consultation for some key clients.Moreover,a service and product development system should be established,which differentiates the libraries’ products and services from those of their competitors.In providing industrial technology information service,libraries need to construct the service support mechanism,publicize their service and learn to cooperate with clients to meet their demands for knowledge management and innovation.Research limitations:The generalizability of the findings is limited because they are based on an individual case study.Practical implications:Our service practices provide useful information for other libraries to expand their information service to high-tech companies in the new information environment.Originality/value:Z-Park is the first and one of the largest science and technology parks in China.Hence NSL’s practices in serving high-tech companies in Z-Park can be valuable to other libraries that intend to take up the similar service.展开更多
With rapid development of industrial parks in China,it lacks strict control in planning for establishment and land use of industrial parks.The supply is seriously surplus,and cut-throat competition takes place in inve...With rapid development of industrial parks in China,it lacks strict control in planning for establishment and land use of industrial parks.The supply is seriously surplus,and cut-throat competition takes place in investment inviting activities,leading to discretized development of industries in industrial parks.Industrial park and enterprise cluster have a common foundation,namely,geographic concentration of industries.Industrial parks with enterprise cluster development show various advantages,so industrial parks should take industrial cluster development as their ultimate direction.From problems in construction of industrial parks,this paper analyzes mechanism of discretized industrial parks,and accordingly puts forward countermeasures for promoting cluster development:(1)Scientifically distributing administrative power of local government,improving supervision and assessment mechanism,and guaranteeing reasonable supply of industrial parks from system;(2)Introducing market-oriented industrial park construction mechanism,to promote market-oriented supply of industrial parks;(3)Strengthening construction of administrative ethics and abilities of local government,to promote coordinated and healthy development of industrial parks;(4)Forming excellent enterprise cluster development expectation and strengthening cluster-based decisions of enterprises entering industrial parks.展开更多

This study presents a new zoning method by determ...The homogeneous risk characteristics within a sub-area and the heterogeneous from one sub-area to another are unclear using existing environmental risk zoning methods. This study presents a new zoning method by determining and categorizing the risk characteristics using the k-means clustering data mining technology. The study constructs indices and develops index quantification models for environmental risk zoning by analyzing the mechanism of environmental risk occurrence. We calculate the source risk index, air risk field index, water risk field index, and target vulnerability of the study area with Nanjing Chemical Industrial Park using a 100 m - 100 m mesh grid as the basic zoning unit, and then use k-means clustering to analyze the environmental risk in the area. We obtain the optimal clustering number with the largest average silhouette coefficient by calculating the average silhouette coefficients of clustering at different k-values. The clustering result with the optimal clustering number is then used for the environmental risk zoning, and the zoning result is mapped using the geographic information system. The study area is divided into five sub-areas. The common environmental risk characteristics within the same sub-area, as well as the differences between sub- areas, are presented. The zoning is helpful in risk management and is convenient for decision makers to distribute limited resources to different sub-areas in the design of risk reducing intervention.展开更多
