SHRIMP U-Pb dating on these zoned zircons yield three discrete and meaningful age groups. The detrital cores yield a large age span from 659 to 313 Ma, indicating the protolith age for the analyzed paragnelss is Paleozoic rather than Proterozoic. The coesite-bearing mantles yield a weighted mean age of 228 ± 5 Ma for the UHP event. The quartz-bearing outmost rims yield a weighted mean age of 213 ± 6 Ma for the retrogressive event related to the regional amphibolite facies metamorphism in the Sulu UHP terrane. Combined with previous SHRIMP U-Pb dating results from orthogneiss in CCSD-MH, it is suggested that both Neoproterozoic granitic protolith and Paleozoic sedimentary rocks were subducted to mantle depths in the Late Triassic. About 15 million years later, the Sulu UHP metamorphic rocks were exhumed to mid-crustal levels and overprinted by an amphibolite-facies retrogressive metamorphism. The exhumation rate deduced from the SHRIMP data and metamorphic P-T conditions is about 6.7 km/Ma. Such a fast exhumation suggests that the Sulu UHP paragnelss and orthogneiss returned towards the surface as a dominant part of a buoyant sliver, caused as a consequence of slab breakoff.展开更多

Moreover, scientific publications are preserved in a digital library archive. It is challenging to identify the data usage that is mentioned in literature and associate it with its source. Here, we investigated the data usage of a government-funded cancer genomics project, The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA), via a full-text literature analysis.Design/methodology/approach: We focused on identifying articles using the TCGA dataset and constructing linkages between the articles and the specific TCGA dataset. First, we collected 5,372 TCGA-related articles from Pub Med Central(PMC). Second, we constructed a benchmark set with 25 full-text articles that truly used the TCGA data in their studies, and we summarized the key features of the benchmark set. Third, the key features were applied to the remaining PMC full-text articles that were collected from PMC.Findings: The amount of publications that use TCGA data has increased significantly since 2011, although the TCGA project was launched in 2005. Additionally, we found that the critical areas of focus in the studies that use the TCGA data were glioblastoma multiforme, lung cancer, and breast cancer; meanwhile, data from the RNA-sequencing(RNA-seq) platform is the most preferable for use.Research limitations: The current workflow to identify articles that truly used TCGA data is labor-intensive. An automatic method is expected to improve the performance.Practical implications: This study will help cancer genomics researchers determine the latest advancements in cancer molecular therapy, and it will promote data sharing and data-intensive scientific discovery.Originality/value: Few studies have been conducted to investigate data usage by governmentfunded projects/programs since their launch. In this preliminary study, we extracted articles that use TCGA data from PMC, and we created a link between the full-text articles and the source data.展开更多

However, substantial distinctions can be found in the prevailing concepts of wildlife conservation, particularly with the recent notion that emphasizes animal rights. Wildlife welfare and wildlife rights are not synonymous, with welfare more compatible with the reasonable and legal utilization of wildlife. The key to scientific wildlife conservation is the appropriate awareness and appreciation of the relationship between wildlife conservation and utilization and the theoretical basis of holism. Nevertheless, rational biases regarding the public's understanding of wildlife conservation and the spread of information via social media still exist. As such, expansion of the concept of scientific wildlife conservation requires the application of several measures. Wildlife conservation researchers should be regarded as the most important disseminators of scientifically-based information, with education in schools and universities of growing importance. Furthermore, the media should shoulder the social responsibility for the accurate dissemination of conservation information.展开更多

However, over the past several decades, a number of durability related problems have emerged and stimulated research into the factors relating to concrete durability globally. The challenge now facing practicing engineers is how to design and build structures that not only satisfy the specified structural requirements, but also achieve the performance levels required from a durability standpoint. Research works on concrete structural durability have been widely reported in the literature over the last several decades. In this paper, reviews of four stages of research work on durability, i e, environments, materials, components, and structures, were presented. Afterwards, the key scientific issues in this field were also pointed out.展开更多

文摘Purpose:Mo ve recognition in scientific abstracts is an NLP task of classifying sentences of the abstracts into different types of language units. To improve the performance of move recognition in scientific abstracts,a novel model of move recognition is proposed that outperforms the BERT-based method.Design/methodology/approach:Prevalent models based on BERT for sentence classification often classify sentences without considering the context of the sentences. In this paper, inspired by the BERT masked language model(MLM),we propose a novel model called the masked sentence model that integrates the content and contextual information of the sentences in move recognition.Experiments are conducted on the benchmark dataset PubMed 20K RCT in three steps. Then,we compare our model with HSLN-RNN,BERT-based and SciBERT using the same dataset.Findings:Compared with the BERT-based and SciBERT models, the F1 score of our model outperforms them by 4.96%and 4.34%,respectively,which shows the feasibility and effectiveness of the novel model and the result of our model comes closest to the state-of-theart results of HSLN-RNN at present.Research limitations:The sequential features of move labels are not considered, which might be one of the reasons why HSLN-RNN has better performance. Our model is restricted to dealing with biomedical English literature because we use a dataset from PubMed,which is a typical biomedical database,to fine-tune our model.Practical implications:The proposed model is better and simpler in identifying move structures in scientific abstracts and is worthy of text classification experiments for capturing contextual features of sentences.Originality/value:T he study proposes a masked sentence model based on BERT that considers the contextual features of the sentences in abstracts in a new way.The performance of this classification model is significantly improved by rebuilding the input layer without changing the structure of neural networks.

文摘This article is to review results from scientific drilling and fault-zone trapped waves (FZTWs) at the south Longman-Shan fault (LSF) zone that ruptured in the 2008 May 12 M8 Wenchuan earthquake in Sichuan,China.Immediately after the mainshock, two Wenchuan Fault Scientific Drilling (WFSD) boreholes were drilled at WFSD-1 and WFSD-2 sites approximately 400 m and 1 km west of the surface rupture along the Yinxiu-Beichuan fault (YBF),the middle fault strand of the south LSF zone. Two boreholes met the principal slip of Wenchuan earthquake along the YBF at depths of 589-m and 1230-m,respectively.The slip is accompanied with a 100-200-m-wide zone consisting of fault gouge, breccia, cataclasite and fractures.Close to WFSD-1 site, the nearly-vertical slip of ~4.3-m with a 190-m wide zone of highly fractured rocks restricted to the hanging wall of the YBF was found at the ground surface after the Wenchuan earthquake.A dense linear seismic array was deployed across the surface rupture at this venue to record FZTWs generated by aftershocks.Observations and 3-D finite-difference simulations of FZTWs recorded at this cross-fault array and network stations close to the YBF show a distinct low-velocity zone composed by severely damaged rocks along the south LSF at seismogenic depths. The zone is several hundred meters wide along the principal slip, within which seismic velocities are reduced by ~30-55% from wall-rock velocities and with the maximum velocity reduction in the ~200-m-wide rupture core zone at shallow depth. The FZTW-inferred geometry and physical properties of the south LSF rupture zone at shallow depth are in general consistent with the results from petrological and structural analyses of cores and well log at WFSD boreholes. We interpret this remarkable low-velocity zone as being a break-down zone during dynamic rupture in the 2008 M8 earthquake. We examined the FZTWS generated by similar earthquakes before and after the 2008 mainshock and observed that seismic velocities within fault core zone was reduced by ~10% due to severe damage of fault rocks during the M8 mainshock.Scientific drilling and locations of aftershocks generating prominent FZTWs also indicate rupture bifurcation along the YBF and the Anxian-Guangxian fault (AGF),two strands of the south LSF at shallow depth.A combination of seismic, petrologic and geologic study at the south LSF leads to further understand the relationship between the fault-zone structure and rupture dynamics, and the amplification of ground shaking strength along the low-velocity fault zone due to its waveguide effect.

文摘Brain glioma is a hot topic in recent years; however, brain glioma remains poorly understood. A bibliometric analysis based on the Science Citation Index (SCI) published by the Institute of Scientific Information (ISI) was performed to identify the global research and to improve the understanding of research trends in the brain glioma field from 2001 to 2010. During 2001 to 2010, there were 8 413 papers addressing brain glioma added to the SCI, and this trend is increasing annually. Of these reports, 6 945 papers are written in English. Journals published in the United States had the most papers, including ten core source titles. The Journal of Neuro-Oncology published the most articles followed by Cancer Research. Furthermore, the University of California San Francisco, is the most productive institution for publishing articles in the brain glioma field. Finally, this study highlights the topics in brain glioma research that are being published around th~ world.

文摘Laser Raman spectroscopy and cathodoluminescence (CL) images show that most zircon crystals separated from paragneiss in the main drill hole of the Chinese Continental Scientific Drilling Project (CCSD-MH) at Maobei, southwestern Sulu terrane, contain low-pressure mineral-bearing detrital cores, coesite-bearing mantles and quartz-bearing or mineral inclusion-free rims. Such a fast exhumation suggests that the Sulu UHP paragnelss and orthogneiss returned towards the surface as a dominant part of a buoyant sliver, caused as a consequence of slab breakoff.

文摘Purpose: In the open science era, it is typical to share project-generated scientific data by depositing it in an open and accessible database. In this preliminary study, we extracted articles that use TCGA data from PMC, and we created a link between the full-text articles and the source data.
文摘In recent years, wildlife conservation has attracted great public attention. Furthermore, the media should shoulder the social responsibility for the accurate dissemination of conservation information.

文摘Concrete has traditionally been regarded as a durable material requiring little or no maintenance. Afterwards, the key scientific issues in this field were also pointed out.
