Double-layer structure of seal coating which consisted of a Ni5Al bond coating and a Ni25 graphite top coating were prepared on steel substrate of gas turbine compressor cylinder block.Bond coating was prepared by atmospheric plasma spraying and top coating was prepared by flame spraying.The microstructure,mechanical properties and abradability of the coating were characterized by scanning elec-tron microscope(SEM),hardness tester,universal testing machine,thermal shock testing machine and abradability testing machine.The res-ults show that the overall spraying structure of the seal coating is uniform,the nickel metal phase is the skeleton supporting the entire coat-ing,and the coating is well bonded without separation.The seal coating has a bonding strength of not less than 7.7 MPa,excellent thermal stability,and thermal shock resistance cycle numbers at 500℃more than 50;the scratch length,deepest invasion depth and wear amount of the coating increase with rise of test temperature,with almost no coating adhesion,indicating that the seal coating has excellent abradability. 展开更多

Calculation of high-speed abrasion forces for ceramic coatings based on the Hertzian contact model

Aero engine seal coatings can effectively improve the air tightness of aircraft engines and increase fuel efficiency.However,due to the frictional forces between the blades and the coating,the coating often flakes off,resulting in damage to the blades and causing eco-nomic losses.Therefore,it is necessary to analyze the friction between the blades and the coating.In this paper,three ceramic-based high-temperature seal coatings with different polyphenylene ester contents and a pure Yttria-stabilised zirconia coating were prepared by atmo-spheric plasma spraying(APS).The hardness and modulus of elasticity of the coated surfaces were obtained by hardness and modulus of elasticity tests,and the coatings were subjected to high-speed touch abrasion tests.The Hertzian contact model was used to calculate the maximum normal contact load on the coating during the process.The test values were compared with the theoretical values and it was found that the calculated values were always greater than the test values.In order to make the Hertzian contact model more accurate in calculating the touching and abrasion forces,the contact coefficients in the Hertzian contact model were optimized.Substituting the optimized coeffi-cients into the Hertzian contact model,the results show that the calculated results after optimizing the coefficients are much closer to the test values,with deviations from the test values ranging from 1%to 38%. 展开更多

As pore-forming materials, the coated polyop-hydroxybenzoate(short for PHB) and h-BN can be applied in the preparation of abradable seal coatings at high temperature. The characteristics of coating such as morphology, thermal stability and composition were studied by SEM, EDS and FTIR. The results show that the modified PHB will change the remained carbon amount, porosity and pore morphology of the coating, which can affect the properties of coatings. If the pore is small enough in uniform distribution, the coating with 5 MPa bond strength, 30-55 HR45Y superficial hardness and certain of carbon can be suitable to well abradability. 展开更多

The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the microstructure,high-temperature oxidation behaviour,and hardness of a seal coating under controlled exposures at 750℃with different exposure times.The results reveal that the main phases in the coating are Ni,FeNi3,and hexagonal BN,withα-Al_(2)O_(3)peaks appearing after 2-h oxidation.As the exposure time increases,the diffraction peak intensity ofα-Al_(2)O_(3)begins to decrease and Cr_(2)O_(3)peaks appear after 200 h.After 1000 h,Cr_(2)O_(3)becomes dominant with only small amounts ofα-Al_(2)O_(3)remaining.The high-temperature oxidation process of the coating includes three stages:the fast stage,transition stage,and slow stage.The oxidation rate is constant in each stage,and in the fast stage and slow stages with values of7.9×10^(-4)and 8.37×10^(-5)mg^(2)·cm^(-4)·s^(-1),respectively.Initially,α-Al_(2)O_(3)forms near the pores in the coating,followed by the formation of Cr_(2)O_(3).As the exposure time increases,oxidation penetrates into the interior of the coating along phase boundaries to form island-shaped inner oxide layers with high concentrations of Cr,Ni,and Fe.Additionally,hardness increases with increasing oxide percentage. 展开更多

As promising abradable seal coating materials used in high temperature range, the homologous layered InFeO3(ZnO)m (m = 1, 2, 3...20) have attracted great attention. In this short review, we summary the research progress in InFeO3(ZnO)m that were developed in our group. We first introduced a series of conventional abradable seal coating materials as a research motivation. Second, the phase composition and crystal structures of lnFeO3(ZnO)m system were presented. Then, their thermophysical properties, as the most important part, were introduced in detail. At last, the mechanical properties such as hardness, friction coefficient, erosion wear resistance of InFeO3(ZnO)m system were also described. Our summary indicates that InFeO3(ZnO)m sys- tems are promising abradable seal coating materials. 展开更多

To gain high efficiency and low fuel consumption, aluminum-based abradable seal coatings had been widely used in the compressor casing of aero engines or gas turbines owing to the low elastic modulus. However, the adhesive transfer phenomenon frequently occurs when the radial rubbing generates between titanium alloy blade tips and aluminum-based coating. It tends to increase scratch force and results in blades vibration and even engine jam. To eliminate this problem, a new lightweight epoxy-based abradable seal coating with high bonding strength was developed by an effective and porosity controllable mixing process that distributes spherical pores uniformly in the continuous matrix. A lightweight coating of 63% porosity with a hardness of 33.1(HR15 Y) can be reached when the content of hollow microspheres is 31 wt.%. The coating density is 0.5 g/cm3 and the bonding strength is as high as 18 MPa.The performance of the epoxy-based coating is comprehensively better than aluminum-based coatings in five essential indices. This study is expected to provide a new technical path for obtaining high-quality abradable seal coatings to guarantee the efficient and safe operation of compressors. 展开更多

In this study,the corrosion behavior of the CuAl-NiC abradable seal coating system in chloride solution was investigated to systematically research the effect of porosity,multiphase,and multilayer structure on the corrosion failure.Through the composition and structure analysis,the corrosion process of the system was predicted and then verified with mercury intrusion porosimetry,cross-section SEM/EDS analysis,and electrochemical measurements.The results demonstrated that the interphase selective corrosion caused the porosity of the top layer to decrease first and then increase during the corrosion development.The interlayer galvanic corrosion,determined by the pore connectivity,is crucial for corrosion failure. 展开更多
