The hens were fed corn-soybean basal diet(Control), or Control diet with 10 % of full fat camelina(Camelina) or flax seed(Flax) for a period of 16 wk. Hen production performance egg quality, egg yolk lipids, fatty acids and Ig Y were determined every 28 d during the experimental period. Results: Egg production was higher in hens fed Camelina and Flax than in Control hens(P 〈 0.05). Egg weight and albumen weight was lowest in eggs from hens fed Camelina(P 〈 0.05). Shell weight relative to egg weight(shell weight %), and shell thickness was lowest in eggs from hens fed Flax(P 〈 0.05). No difference was noted in Haugh unit, yolk:albumen ratio, and yolk weight. Significant increase in α-linolenic(18:3 n-3), docosapentaenoic(22:5 n-3)and docoshexaenoic(22:6 n-3) acids were observed in egg yolk from hens fed Camelina and Flax. Total n-3 fatty acids constituted 1.19 % in Control eggs compared to 3.12 and 3.09 % in Camelina and Flax eggs, respectively(P 〈 0.05). Eggs from hens fed Camelina and Flax had the higher Ig Y concentration than those hens fed Control diet when expressed on a mg/g of yolk basis(P 〈 0.05). Although the egg weight was significantly lower in Camelina-fed hens, the total egg content of Ig Y was highest in eggs from hens fed Camelina(P 〈 0.05).Conclusions: The egg n-3 fatty acid and Ig Y enhancing effect of dietary camelina seed warrants further attention into the potential of using camelina as a functional feed ingredient in poultry feeding.展开更多

The inhibitory activity of outer seed coat of the dormant seed (control treatment) was higher than that of seeds with only the inner coat attached e.g. ABA was 114 and 54ng/g fresh weight respectively. The inhibitory effect of No. 12 zone was even higher than ABA. The inhibitory activity of all the zones decreased after stratification (St) and burying (AO) treatment, especially that of the outer seed coat, whose ABA content decreased to 7(St) and 11(AO) ng / g(fw). However, the decrease in inhibition of root growth lagged bchind'thc decrease in germination. It is concluded that burial is advantageous to regeneration. Inhibitors of the outer seed coat and seeds were mostly destroyed under the adverse conditions of natural dissemination (Di treatment) indicating that Di was not conducive to regeneration. MS analysis revealed that the largest peaks of No. 6, 7 and 12 zones were linoleic acid, olcic acid and 17-C, 18-C, and 20-C long chain fatty acids. Several coumarins were found in No. 6 and 7 zones, and cadincncs, farncsol and scsquitcrpcncs were found in No. 6 and 12 zones having common bioorigins with ABA.展开更多

Monoecious fig species and their pollinating wasps are in conflict over the use of fig ovaries which can either produce one seed or one wasp. From observation on Ficus virens Ait., we showed that female flowers with outer layer of ovaries (near to the wall of syconium) had no significant difference from that with inner and interval layer of ovaries (near to the syconium cavity), in which most seeds and wasps were produced. This meant that fig tree provided the same potential resource for seed and wasps production. Observation indicated that there was usually only one foundress in syconium at female flower phase and no com- petition pollinators. Measurement of the style length of female flowers and the ovipositor of pollinators indicated that most ovaries could be reached by pollinator’s ovipositor. However, at the male flower phase, production of seeds was significantly more than that of wasps including non-pollinating wasps but there was no significant difference between seed and pollinating wasp production when without non-pollinating wasps produced. This result indicated that non-pollinating wasps competed ovaries not with seeds but with pollinating wasps for ovipositing. Bagged experiment showed that the sampling fig species was not self-sterile which was important for figs and wasps to survive bad season. Seed production in self-pollinated figs was not significantly different from total wasps in- cluding non-pollinating ones. This might be related with the weaker competition among wasps since bagged figs were not easy to reach by wasps from outside.展开更多

[Method] 2BDQ-8 rice direct sowing machine was used for the promotion test in field of several cities and counties in Jiangsu Province, and artificial rice planting and mechanization rice planting were compared to explore the production and economic situation. [Result] 2BDQ-8 rice direct sowing machine had advantages such as high efficiency and low cost, the rice direct sowing machine saved about 30% compared to the artificial rice planting and mechanization rice planting, and the overall efficiency was significant. [Conclusion] 2BDQ-8 rice sowing machine was a production technology that had low cost and high efficiency, which should be widely applied.展开更多
