KLD-12 peptide was purified and tested with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and mass spectroscopy (MS). KLD-12 peptide solutions with concentrations of 5 g/L, 2.5 g/L and 1 g/L were triggered to self-assembly with 1 xPBS in vitro, and the self-assembled peptide hydrogel was morphologically observed. Atomic force microscope (AFM) was employed to examine the inner structure of self-assembled peptide hydrogel. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) were encapsulated within peptide hydrogel for 3-D culture for 2 weeks. Calcein-AM/PI fluorescence staining was used to detect living and dead cells. Cell viability was observed to evaluate the bioactivity of MSCs in KLD-12 peptide hydrogel. The results of HPLC and MS showed that the relative molecular mass of KLD-12 peptide was 1467.83, with a purity quotient of 95.36%. KLD-12 peptide at 5 g/L could self-assemble to produce a hydrogel, which was structurally integral and homogeneous and was able to provide sufficient cohesion to retain the shape of hydrogel. AFM demonstrated that the self-assembly of KLD-12 peptide hydrogel was successful and the assembled material was composed of a kind of nano-fiber with a diameter of 3040 nm and a length of hundreds of nm. Calcein-AM/PI fluorescence staining revealed that MSCs in KLD-12 peptide hydrogel grew well. Cell activity detection exhibited that the A value increased over the culture time. It is concluded that KLD-12 peptide was synthesized successfully and was able to self-assemble to produce nano-fiber hydrogel in vitro. MSCs in KLD-12 peptide hydrogel grew well and proliferated with the culture time. KLD-12 peptide hydrogel can serve as an excellent injectable material of biological scaffolds in tissue engineering of IVD.展开更多

In an affect-object generative inference and regulation (AGIR) model, we propose that functional dynamics between two systems, the affect-object thought generation system and the cognitive control system, can guide an individual to achieve homeostasis within self and harmonious relationships with others. We used Neurosynth (www.neurosynth.org), an automated meta-analysis database, to identify potential brain substrates underlying the key components in the AGIR model. Based on the findings, some brain regions are implicated as the key cortical substrates in this model, corroborating our central hypothesis that a hallmark of mind-body wellbeing can be characterized as a low-frequency anti-correlantion between 1) the cognitive control system including the dorsal anterior/middle cingulate cortex, and 2) the affect-object thought generation system including the ventromedial prefrontal cortex and posterior cingulate cortex. MBB provides an efficient strategy for responding to and dissolving a fundamental problem that impairs mind-body wellbeing, i.e., unrealistic identity-grasping consisting of self-centered embodied expectations of self and others. We demonstrated how theoretical and applied work could be integrated by drawing evidence from the neuroscience literature to support the AGIR model, and then we applied the AGIR model to elucidate how MBB might work.展开更多

This powerful proclamation is an extract from a poem composed by the eminent and late Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish. His instructive and proud words were the initial spark that challenged to respond to the question of the suppressed identity of Palestinian Arabs in Israel. This study will attempt to explore the cultural representation of identity for generations of Palestinian young men and women who were born and lived in Israel but remain culturally repressed and silenced by the hegemonic forces. Identity has been a controversial issue in the mind of every Palestinian ever since the 1948 "Al-Nakbah".2 This study will attempt to comprehend and analyze the multiple ways in which different generations of 1948 Palestinians identified themselves within their societies. While studying the Arabs of Israel3 one notices that their cultural and intellectual productions (poetry and literature) reflect aspects of the conflicts they endured. Confusion and contradictory feelings permeate their psyches as they attended Israeli schools and spoke Hebrew as their official language. This paper will explore the literary heritage of two generations of 1948 Palestinians: the writings of Palestinians of 1948 who were born before Al-Nakbah (living within the borders of Israel today). Those include poems, plays and novels. It will also explore the writings of the younger generation of 1948 Palestinians (born and raised after the Al-Nakbah and considered to be the new generation of Israeli Arabs). A critical analysis will identify how these two generations of Palestinian writers dealt with the contradictions of living inside Israeli society that did not acknowledge them as the indigenous inhabitants of the land. Their translation of their sense of belonging within their literary works will be evident and how they dealt with the conflict of being simultaneously Israeli Arab as well as Palestinian. How can cultural production reconcile the homeland carried in the memory nostalgically and the real society they lived in within the Israeli borders?展开更多

From 1970s, Chinese-American literature has developed by leaps and bounds and a group of outstanding and innovative writers also appeared who earned the respect of literary critics and enjoyed a large number of American readers--for example, Maxine Hong Kingston (1940-) and Amy Tan (1952-) as novelists and David Henry Hwang (1957-) as a playwright. The woman warrior in particular is regarded as the work that marks the rise of Chinese-American literature in modem American literary history. This paper intends to argue the investigation of individual identity of Maxine Hong Kingston as a Chinese-American woman and the deliberate misinterpretation of Chinese traditions in The woman warrior. In addition, to create the collective identity of Chinese-Americans, the author actually takes the way of traditional Chinese movies that she has inherited and uses the highlights which are most appreciated by the Westerners to cater to their interests and fantasies.展开更多

The annexation of Crimea, the hybrid war in Eastern Ukraine, and finally the unexpected interference in Syria--all these actions bring us back to the question of understanding the Russian motivation properly. Generally, it includes the whole interpretation of Russian strategic culture which is based on the research and analysis of the different factors: from literature and history to religion and political nature of the Russian state. Significant attempts to understand Moscow's strategic culture were made by the American experts during the Cold War; therefore the article analyzes the main pillars of Russian strategic culture, its continuity and change in comparison to Soviet times as well as the main reactions of Moscow for what it considers to be a threat.展开更多

For many, the living room is the locus of product use, social activities, cultural values, and the personal narrative of the people who live in it. Consumers engage with their furniture in order for it to function effectively for them: It is thus used to furnish both the home and the self as well. Creating a certain living space with a particular use of furniture and interior decoration is the precise way in which the resident forms its arrangements, and builds a relationship with the surrounding objects in that living space. This activity, I argue, positions the residents in the process of presenting their personality characteristics and cultural identity. The Ethnographic approach is most appropriate methodology for research into such a personal area: the living room within the domestic environment. The topic of this research falls between different fields of studies including consumerism and media. This research reviews the influence of advertising in magazines and furniture shops on the meaning of living space design and how that encourages higher levels of consumption.展开更多

How can cultural production reconcile the homeland carried in the memory nostalgically and the real society they lived in within the Israeli borders?
文摘Chinese-American literature that grew up at the end of 1960s and the beginning of 1970s not only increased in quantity but also broke through in theme and genre. In addition, to create the collective identity of Chinese-Americans, the author actually takes the way of traditional Chinese movies that she has inherited and uses the highlights which are most appreciated by the Westerners to cater to their interests and fantasies.
文摘The last two years have attracted the world's attention to Russia. Significant attempts to understand Moscow's strategic culture were made by the American experts during the Cold War; therefore the article analyzes the main pillars of Russian strategic culture, its continuity and change in comparison to Soviet times as well as the main reactions of Moscow for what it considers to be a threat.
文摘Consumption is an active process that engages the social world for individuals to make use of certain products. This research reviews the influence of advertising in magazines and furniture shops on the meaning of living space design and how that encourages higher levels of consumption.
