It is intractable for the continuum-based soil and rock mechanics theories to accurately characterize and predict the SRM's mechanical properties. This study reports a novel numerical method incorporating microfocus computed tomography and PFC3D codes to probe the deformation and failure processes of SRM. The three-dimensional (3D) PFC models that represent the SRM's complex structures were built. By simulating the entire failure process in PFC3D, the SRM's strength, elastic modulus and crack growth were obtained. The influence of rock ratios on the SRM's strength, deformation and failure processes, as well as its internal mesoscale mechanism, were analyzed. By comparing simulation results with experimental data, it was verified that the 3D PFC models were in good agreement with SRM's real structure and the SRM's compression process, deformation and failure patterns; its intrinsic mesomechanism can be effectively analyzed based on such 3D PFC models.展开更多

The nanopore diameter and length are systematically varied to examine their effects on the structures of various morphologies and their phase transition. From the simulation, it is observed that the equilibrium morphology of the confined system is sensitive to pore diameter D and pore length Lpore, the phase behavior in neutral nanopores is due to an interplay of two factors: the surface effect and the extension effect. When the nanopore length and the lamellae spacing are not commensurate, the surface effect prevails at small nanopores (small diameters or short lengths), the extension effect takes over at larger nanopores (large diameters or long lengths). When the nanopore length and the lamellae spacing are commensurate, the surface effect dominates. Furthermore, the interactions between different monomers are also discussed and we obtain a transition from a tilted pancakes/cylinder structure (Ltilted) to a concentric cylindrical structure with defects and to a concentric cylindrical structure (L||). We also investigate the effect of the relative concentrations of diblock copolymer-homopolymer and obtain a transition in which the position of the C blocks changes from the outer of the cylinder to the middle of the cylinder and then to the inner of the cylinder with the concentration of the C blocks decreasing.展开更多

In addition, the combustion temperature of the reaction was measured, and the phase constituent of the synthesized product was inspected by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results showed that the combustion reaction started from melting of the Al particles, and the melting resulted in dissolving of the Ti particles and forming of Al3Ti grains. As the Al liquid was depleted, the combustion reaction proceeded through solid-state diffusion between the solid Al3Ti and the solid Ti. This led to the forming of TiAl and Ti3Al diffusing layers. In addition, the combustion reaction is incomplete besides TiAl, there are a large amount of Ti3Al and TiAl3 and a small amount of Ti in the final product. This incompleteness chiefly results from the using of coarser Ti powder.展开更多
