According to the similarity of service content, a...To improve the performance and robustness in service discovery, a self-organizing mechanism for service alliances of Service Providers (SPs) is proposed in this paper. According to the similarity of service content, an SP publishes its services in a partition of SPs to construct connections between highly similar SPs. These SPs constitute a self-organized distributed environment. A self-organizing protocol is designed to ensure the correctness of the construction of the alliances. The protocol consists of four stages - initiating stage, developing stage, developed stage and degradation stage. The experimental results demonstrate that this protocol ensures the self-property. The visualization of alliance developing stages illustrates that sub-alliances are sp lit in balance and self-connected. Compared with the Random Walker algorithm, the time cost and the number of forwarded messages in alliance-based mechanism is lower in service discovery. On three typical topologies (Grid, Random-Graph, Power-Law), the success rate of service discovery is much higher, which shows that self-organized alliances are helpful to enhance the discovery performance.展开更多

Taking advantage of the mathematical model of the network traffic admission control which can effectively overcome the self-similar characteristics of the network requests, through the scheduling of the differential service qucue based on priority while at the same time taking into account various factors including access characteristics of requests, load information, etc, smoothness of the admission control is ensured by the algorithm proposed in this paper. We design a non-linear self-adapting control algorithm by introducing an exponential admission function, thus overcomes the negative aspects introduced by static threshold parameters. Simulation results show that the scheme proposed in this paper can effectively improve the resource utilization of the clusters, while at the same time protecting the service with high priority. Our simulation results also show that this algorithm can improve system stability and reliability too. In this architecture, perception, analysis, correlation, feedback, decision making, allocation, and implementation QoS mechanisms are created automatically. These operations are time-consuming, labor & budget-intensive and error-prone if activated manually. Hence new approaches have to be designed and applied to meet those demands in a cost-effective way, Self-organizing networks (SON), is a promising approach to handle manual tasks with autonomous manners. More specifically the self-directed functions (self-planning, self-deployment, self-configuration, self-optimization and self-healing) are aid to reduce capital expenditure (CAPEX), implementation expenditure (IMPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX). In this study, first we investigate the aforementioned impact factors of cost combined with self-functions. Then, we analyze the relative cost benefits causing from deploying the SON functions, using the economical method to have more precise results concerning those potential benefits. At last, the result shows that there is a significant difference in expenses and revenues of WSP with and without SON after enabling self-functions in wireless network.展开更多

In view of WDM technology in...In this paper, we analyze the queueing behaviour of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) Internet router employing partial buffer sharing (PBS) mechanism with self-similar traffic input. In view of WDM technology in networking, each output port of the router is modelled as multi-server queueing system. To guarantee the quality of service (QoS) in Broadband integrated services digital network (B-ISDN), PBS mechanism is a promising one. As Markov modulated Poisson process (MMPP) emulates self-similar Internet traffic, we can use MMPP as input process of queueing system to investigate queueing behaviour of the router. In general, as network traffic is asynchronous (unslotted) and of variable packet lengths, service times (packet lengths) are assumed to follow Erlang-k distribution. Since, the said distribution is relatively general compared to deterministic and exponential. Hence, specific output port of the router is modelled as MMPP/Ek/s/C queueing system. The long-term performance measures namely high priority and low priority packet loss probabilities and the short-term performance measures namely mean lengths of critical and non-critical periods against the system parameters and traffic parameters are computed by means of matrix-geometric methods and approximate Markovian model. This kind of analysis is useful in dimensioning the router under self-similar traffic input employing PBS mechanism to provide differentiated services (DiffServ) and QoS guarantee.展开更多
Cyber physical system(CPS)provides more powerful service by cyber and physical features through the wireless communication.As a kind of social organized network system,a fundamental question of CPS is to achieve servi...Cyber physical system(CPS)provides more powerful service by cyber and physical features through the wireless communication.As a kind of social organized network system,a fundamental question of CPS is to achieve service self-organization with its nodes autonomously working in both physical and cyber environments.To solve the problem,the social nature of nodes in CPS is firstly addressed,and then a formal social semantic descriptions is presented for physical environment,node service and task in order to make the nodes communicate automatically and physical environment sensibly.Further,the Horn clause is introduced to represent the reasoning rules of service organizing.Based on the match function,which is defined for measurement between semantics,the semantic aware measurement is presented to evaluate whether environment around a node can satisfy the task requirement or not.Moreover,the service capacity evaluation method for nodes is addressed to find out the competent service from both cyber and physical features of nodes.According to aforementioned two measurements,the task semantic decomposition algorithm and the organizing matrix are defined and the service self-organizing mechanism for CPS is proposed.Finally,examinations are given to further verify the efficiency and feasibility of the proposed mechanism.展开更多

Based on the open source software Artificial Linguistic Internet Computer Entity(A.L.I.C.E.) and a combined application of several other relevant supporting technologies for facilitating the use of the current existing library resources, Tsinghua University Library has recently developed a real-time smart talking robot, named Xiaotu,for the enhancement of its various service functions, such as reference services, book searching, Baidu Baike searching, self-directed learning, etc. The operation of Xiaotu is programmed into Renren website(a social networking website), which adds significantly an innovative feature to the modus operandi of the real-time virtual reference service at Tsinghua University Library.展开更多

The textual expos...This article introduces several of the more significant service delivery innovations and their resulting accomplishments instigated by Dongguan Library(thereafter abbreviated as DGL) in recent years. The textual exposition of this paper is based on a case study of DGL by this author about its user-centered vision, mission, immediate objectives and the exhibited service performance within a contextual environment of collegial support from its professional peers. After a five-year period of intensive efforts on such focused professional development and practice, DGL has completed its information service mapping and information delivery for the entire municipality of Dongguan on a 7-day and twentyfour-hour(7/24) basis. This singular feast of accomplishment seems to suggest the moral that any significant development of scale of a municipal library has to be in keeping pace closely with the progress of the society at large in general and with the changing information demands of its local clientele in particular.展开更多
