The goal of zero-shot recognition is to classify classes it has never seen before, which needs to build a bridge between seen and unseen classes through semantic embedding space. Therefore, semantic embedding space learning plays an important role in zero-shot recognition. Among existing works, semantic embedding space is mainly taken by user-defined attribute vectors. However, the discriminative information included in the user-defined attribute vector is limited. In this paper, we propose to learn an extra latent attribute space automatically to produce a more generalized and discriminative semantic embedded space. To prevent the bias problem, both user-defined attribute vector and latent attribute space are optimized by adversarial learning with auto-encoders. We also propose to reconstruct semantic patterns produced by explanatory graphs, which can make semantic embedding space more sensitive to usefully semantic information and less sensitive to useless information. The proposed method is evaluated on the AwA2 and CUB dataset. These results show that our proposed method achieves superior performance. 展开更多

Background Cross-modal retrieval has attracted widespread attention in many cross-media similarity search applications, particularly image-text retrieval in the fields of computer vision and natural language processing.Recently, visual and semantic embedding(VSE)learning has shown promising improvements in image text retrieval tasks. Most existing VSE models employ two unrelated encoders to extract features and then use complex methods to contextualize and aggregate these features into holistic embeddings.Despite recent advances, existing approaches still suffer from two limitations:(1)without considering intermediate interactions and adequate alignment between different modalities, these models cannot guarantee the discriminative ability of representations;and(2)existing feature aggregators are susceptible to certain noisy regions, which may lead to unreasonable pooling coefficients and affect the quality of the final aggregated features. Methods To address these challenges,we propose a novel cross-modal retrieval model containing a well-designed alignment module and a novel multimodal fusion encoder that aims to learn the adequate alignment and interaction of aggregated features to effectively bridge the modality gap. Results Experiments on the Microsoft COCO and Flickr30k datasets demonstrated the superiority of our model over state-of-the-art methods. 展开更多

Identifying semantic types for attributes in relations, known as attribute semantic type(AST)identification, plays an important role in many data analysis tasks, such as data cleaning, schema matching, and keyword search in databases. However, due to a lack of unified naming standards across prevalent information systems(a.k.a.information islands),AST identification still remains as an open problem. To tackle this problem,we propose a context-aware method to figure out the ASTs for relations in this paper. We transform the AST identification into a multi-class classification problem and propose a schema context aware(SCA)model to learn the representation from a collection of relations associated with attribute values and schema context.Based on the learned representation,we predict the AST for a given attribute from an underlying relation, wherein the predicted AST is mapped to one of the labeled ASTs.To improve the performance for AST identification, especially for the case that the predicted semantic types of attributes are not included in the labeled ASTs,we then introduce knowledge base embeddings(a.k.a.KBVec)to enhance the above representation and construct a schema context aware model with knowledge base enhanced(SCA-KB)to get a stable and robust model.Extensive experiments based on real datasets demonstrate that our context-aware method outperforms the state-of-the-art approaches by a large margin,up to 6.14%and 25.17%in terms of macro average F1 score, and up to 0.28%and 9.56%in terms of weighted F1 score over high-quality and low-quality datasets respectively. 展开更多

Long-document semantic measurement has great significance in many applications such as semantic searchs, plagiarism detection, and automatic technical surveys. However, research efforts have mainly focused on the semantic similarity of short texts. Document-level semantic measurement remains an open issue due to problems such as the omission of background knowledge and topic transition. In this paper, we propose a novel semantic matching method for long documents in the academic domain. To accurately represent the general meaning of an academic article, we construct a semantic profile in which key semantic elements such as the research purpose, methodology, and domain are included and enriched. As such, we can obtain the overall semantic similarity of two papers by computing the distance between their profiles. The distances between the concepts of two different semantic profiles are measured by word vectors. To improve the semantic representation quality of word vectors, we propose a joint word-embedding model for incorporating a domain-specific semantic relation constraint into the traditional context constraint. Our experimental results demonstrate that, in the measurement of document semantic similarity, our approach achieves substantial improvement over state-of-the-art methods, and our joint word-embedding model produces significantly better word representations than traditional word-embedding models. 展开更多
