However, a majority of teachers either apply the traditional method or neglect grammar teaching and ...In senior high schools, great importance and attention are required to be attached to grammar teaching and learning. However, a majority of teachers either apply the traditional method or neglect grammar teaching and learning, both of which go against the ideas of the new curriculum of the high school. To solve the problem, based on the constructionist theory, Halliday's theory of register, and the trial-discovery model, the trial-discovery English grammar teaching model was constructed. To find out whether this teaching model is more effective than the traditional grammar teaching, an experimental study of the trial-discovery model in senior English grammar teaching is carried out. This study deals with the problem how we can improve the efficiency of grammar teaching, that is by increasing the students' learning interest and improving the accuracy in English writing. After the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data collected through questionnaires, interviews, and writing tests, the study reveals that the trial-discovery grammar teaching is more effective to stimulate the students' interest in learning grammar, and is more helpful to improve the accuracy and complexity in English writing than the traditional grammar teaching展开更多

The result shows: (1) "Chinese Cultural Aphasia" phenomenon does exist in Senior High English teaching, and students' ability of expressing Chinese culture in English is worse than expected. (2) The reasons that are responsible for the phenomenon are in the following: Both students and teachers lack Chinese cultural consciousness, including that teachers' teaching idea is not correct and teaching method is single. What's more, in textbooks the proportion of Chinese culture content is too little. Accordingly, some proposals are put forward to solve the problem: (1) Students should pay attention to English expressions of Chinese culture. Recent years have witnessed a phenomenon that major English teachers in China have adopted the traditional teaching pattern, mechanically linking English pronunciations directly with the meaning of Chinese, which grad...Recent years have witnessed a phenomenon that major English teachers in China have adopted the traditional teaching pattern, mechanically linking English pronunciations directly with the meaning of Chinese, which gradually dampens learners’ enthusiasm. The chief purpose of this paper was to design one English vocabulary teaching lesson based on incidental acquisition. More specifically, the questions raised are, on the one hand, whether incidental vocabulary teaching imprints differences on the learning outcomes for middle school students, and, on the other hand, whether incidental acquisition results in positive feedback between teachers and students. The technique we applied was referred to as questionnaires and interviews addressed to a sample of 68 students. Focusing on the effect of incidental vocabulary acquisition, the analysis demonstrated that it could enhance students’ vocabulary capacity. In addition, it was interesting to note that excellent students and average students tended to embrace the new teaching style while underachievers were on the opposite side. On this basis, it is recommended for English teachers to design English vocabulary lessons, adopting visual, auditory, oral, reading or writing training. More precisely, they should use phonics rules and patterns, holistic learning, classified vocabulary teaching, visual illustration or multimedia teaching to give lessons effectively and expand learners’ vocabulary.展开更多
