This study examined the effects of memory training on memory performance in an understudied “oldest-old” population ranging in age from 90 to 99 years. Eighteen mild to moderately cognitive-impaired older seniors, 90 years and older were recruited from memory clinics established in senior living communities. Treatment sessions took place, on average, twice weekly, for 55 minutes. Memory intervention included nineteen computer-based exercises customized to focus on memory loss. The specificity of memory training was very clear;memory training produced significant effects (F(3,51) = 2.81, p = 0.05) on memory performance, especially after 6 months of training, while other outcome measures showed no effects as predicted. Based on the results, it can be concluded that interventions targeting cognition and memory in the oldest-old MCI population can significantly improve memory function and reduce cognitive deficits.展开更多

One area of daily living, which has often been cited as a key problem area for seniors is the detection of risks in the home, especially in the kitchen. The kitchen is the place where most domestic accidents occur and the oven is the main source. Methods: We propose a safety kitchen solution, InOvUS, which focuses on safety and reducing the risk of fire, burn and intoxication. We present the evaluation of the soundness of the method we designed to evaluate the adoption intention and interest of a safety kitchen system from a senior user’s perspective. Results: We develop a conceptual model utilizing several existing scales such as the CAI (consumer adoption intention), CI (consumer innovativeness), TAM (technology acceptance model), PEOU (perceived ease of use) and PU (perceived usefulness) scales, but specific to the senior 65+ segment. Conclusion: The evaluation results of InOvUS through the application of our model show a clear buying intention toward InOvUS and also a clear intent to use it.展开更多

Eating is an important part for this group. The purpose of this study is to adapt the push and pull theory in order to investigate what would motivate the elderly to consume food away from home. Based on the results of a literature review and an expert panel, a valid questionnaire was developed. The participants in this study were aged above 55 who live in Taichung district. A total of 265 samples were collected. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS) were used to analyze the data. The findings revealed that the data fit the model moderately well. Push and pull variables had a significant influence on intention and behavior. Recommendations like marketing strategies that can attract senior citizens and restaurateurs should focus on the key factors when seniors consume food away from home.展开更多

Frailty is a concern affecting a growing number of patients, particularly the elderly in this population. Our study aimed to determine the prevalence of frailty and its predictors on people living with HIV aged 50 years and older followed at the Outpatient Treatment Clinic (CTA) in Dakar. Methodology: We conducted a cross-sectional study of descriptive and analytic purposes ranging from November 2022 to August 2023, in CTA, Dakar (Senegal). We included people living with HIV aged 50 years and older under antiretroviral therapy for at least 6 months (≥6 months). Frailty was considered according to Fried criteria with a score ≥3. To identify the predictors of frailty, we performed a multivariate logistic regression analysis using STATA software version 18. Results: We included 199 patients. The median age at the moment of the study was 58 years old [50 - 91] with a sex ratio (M/F) of 0.58. The most representative age group was that of [50 - 59] years (59.3%). HIV-1 profile was most common in 89.45%. The median duration under antiretroviral therapy was 180 months [6 - 284] and 94% of patients received a Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (TDF)-containing regimen with 43% of them for at least 10 years. Viral load was undetectable (≤40 copies/ml) in 98% of cases. WHO Stage III was more common at inclusion and 55.78% had nadir TCD4+ Lymphocyte counts Conclusion: Our study confirms the high prevalence of frailty among older people living with HIV. Its prevention should consider the management of comorbidities and the implementation of non-pharmacological interventions such as nutrition.展开更多

As a result, the decline in motor and cognitive functions became more pronounced. Purpose: The study examined how activities combining passive horticultural therapy, which is always introduced, with active functional recovery training, which is used in the functional recovery training of patients with hemiplegia, influence the behavior of elder people using the facility. Methods: 36 elder people with care need 1 or 2 who regularly used the day-care facilities after the pandemic ended and who agreed to participate in the study was included. The assessment data were every three months from December 2021 to December 2023 after the COVID-19 pandemic, the MMSE and Moca-J, TMIG-Index, and GDS15. AI-based text mining was used to compare changes in visit reports before and after the introduction of the Posture Chart and Red Code, and the relationship between the language used. Results: The results of MMSE and Moca-J were both significantly higher in Group B and C than in Group A. TIMG assessment, was significantly higher in Group B and C than in Group A, and Group C was significantly higher than Group B. The GDS, an assessment of depression in old age, tended to be significantly higher in Group A than in Groups B and C. In the “Co-Occurrence Network Analysis” shown after the introduction of the latest functional recovery training equipment such as the Red Cord, its results showed a high association between the words Bathing and CARE and words such as POSTURE, Red-Code, and AI, App, which are used in functional training and rehabilitation, and their analysis. Conclusion: At day-care facilities specializing in functional recovery training and rehabilitation, a combination of horticultural therapy and the latest functional training equipment found to help maintain the physical and mental health of elderly people certified as requiring nursing care. Since this is a short-term study following behavioral restrictions, long-term research should continue to study the effects of adding functional training, handled by rehabilitation professionals, to horticultural therapy.展开更多

文摘Introduction: Life expectancy improvement for people living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is coming up against the problems associated with aging and chronic diseases. Its prevention should consider the management of comorbidities and the implementation of non-pharmacological interventions such as nutrition.

文摘Background: In Japan, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, various behavioral restrictions were implemented from March 2020, resulting in an increased number of elderly people with reduced participation in care and rehabilitation. Since this is a short-term study following behavioral restrictions, long-term research should continue to study the effects of adding functional training, handled by rehabilitation professionals, to horticultural therapy.

文摘Based on the framework of social cognition theory, this paper proposed a systematic gerontechnology acceptance model for older people from both environmental and personal factors.Taking the Beijing senior citizens as an example,we used questionnaire survey data analysis and structural equation modeling methods to conduct empirical research that explores the factors affecting the willingness of the Beijing senior citizens to use gerontechnology and to examine the relationships among these factors. Results show that–in terms of personal factors–self-satisfaction,perceived usefulness and cognitive ability have a significant positive impact on the elderly’s intended uptake of gerontechnology;in terms of environmental factors, social influence not only directly affects the elderly’s intended use,but these elements can also shape the proposed use by influencing personal factors. We noted that facilitating conditions have only an indirect effect on the way of older people’s plan to use gerontechnology. The results confirmed the rationality and effectiveness of applying social cognition theory to study the behavior of seniors’acceptance of gerontechnology.Based on the research results,we proposed some suggestions to promote better research and development of gerontechnology for the elderly in Beijing.
