Methods: A total of 120 Wistar rats were randomly divided into normal control,sham operation, model and EA groups, and each of them were further divided into IR 12 hr, IR 24 hr and IR 48 hr subgroups, with 10 cases being in each subgroup. Cerebral ischemia was produced by occlusion of the middle cerebral artery for 0.5 hr. Shuigou (GV 26) and Baihui (GV 20) were punctured and stimulated electrically with an EA therapeutic apparatus. Serum IL 1β and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) α contents were assayed by using radioimmunoassay. Results: Results showed that serum IL 1β and TNF α contents of model group were significantly higher than those of normal control and sham operation groups at IR 12 hr, 24 hr and 48 hr (P<0.05), meaning that following IR, the production and release of these two cytokines in the blood increased obviously; comparison between EA and model groups displayed that serum IL 1β and TNF α levels of EA group were strikingly lower than those of model group (P<0.01), suggesting that EA stimulation can suppress IR induced increase of production and release of these two cytokines. Conclusion: EA can suppress cerebral IR induced increase of serum IL 1β and TNF α, which may contribute to the effect of acupuncture in resisting cerebral IR injury in the treatment of stroke.展开更多
[ Objective] To study the effects of astragalus powder on serum lipids and body fat contents of fast large-scale quality chickens, and thus provide a theoretical basis for its application in poultry production,[ Metho...[ Objective] To study the effects of astragalus powder on serum lipids and body fat contents of fast large-scale quality chickens, and thus provide a theoretical basis for its application in poultry production,[ Method ] All the 180 1-day-old healthy Liangfeng chickens were randomly divided into six groups. Group 1 was the control group, fed with basal diet; group 2, group 3 and group 4 were fed with basal diet added with 0.75%, 1.0% and 1.25% astragalus powder, respectively; group 5 and group 6 were separately fed with basal diet added with 1.0% and 1.25% astragalus pow- der, but the astragalus powder was used for 10 d and then was forbidden for 10 d in turn during the whole experiment. The content of triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TCHO), high-density lipoprotein-Cholesterol ( HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein-Cholesterol (LDL-C) were respectively determined when the chickens were 35-day-old and 63-day-old, while the percentage of abdominal fat (PAF) as well as intramuscular fat (IMF) and subcutaneous fat ply (SFP) was measured when the chickens were 63-day-old. [ Result] In 35-day-old chickens, the levels of TCHO were sig- nificantly or very significantly lower in group 3, group 4, and group 6 than in control group ( P 〈0.05 or 0.01 ) ; the levels of LDL-C significantly lower in group 3 and group 6 ( P〈0. 05) ; the level of HDL-C significantly higher in group 5 (P〈0.05). Acupoints used were Dazhui (GV 14)...In this study, the therapeutic effect of acupuncture and its effect on serum tumor necrosis factor apha (TNF-α) level was observed in 25 cases of allergic bronchial asthma patients. Acupoints used were Dazhui (GV 14), Feishu (BL 13), Dingchuan (EX-B 1), Pishu (BL 20), Tanzhong (CV 17), Shenshu (BL 23) and Fengchi (GB 20), supplemented with other acupoints according to syndrome differentiation. After 15 sessions of treatment, results showed that the total effective rate was 96% . Before treatment, serum TNF-oc activity was significantly higher than that of healthy subjects (25 cases, P<0.01). After treatment, TNF-α level reduced considerably in comparison with that of pre-treatment (P < 0. 05). These findings indicate that acupuncture can significantly improve allergic asthma patients' clinical symptoms and lower serum TNF-α activity.展开更多
