Impact of transcranial electrical stimulation on serum neurotrophic factors and language function in patients with speech disorders

BACKGROUND Speech disorders have a substantial impact on communication abilities and quality of life.Traditional treatments such as speech and psychological therapies frequently demonstrate limited effectiveness and patient compliance.Transcranial electrical stimulation(TES)has emerged as a promising non-invasive treatment to improve neurological functions.However,its effectiveness in enhancing language functions and serum neurofactor levels in individuals with speech disorders requires further investigation.AIM To investigate the impact of TES in conjunction with standard therapies on serum neurotrophic factor levels and language function in patients with speech disorders.METHODS In a controlled study spanning from March 2019 to November 2021,81 patients with speech disorders were divided into a control group(n=40)receiving standard speech stimulation and psychological intervention,and an observation group(n=41)receiving additional TES.The study assessed serum levels of ciliary neurotrophic factor(CNTF),glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor(GDNF),brainderived neurotrophic factor(BDNF),and nerve growth factor(NGF),as well as evaluations of motor function,language function,and development quotient scores.RESULTS After 3 wk of intervention,the observation group exhibited significantly higher serum levels of CNTF,GDNF,BDNF,and NGF compared to the control group.Moreover,improvements were noted in motor function,cognitive function,language skills,physical abilities,and overall development quotient scores.It is worth mentioning that the observation group also displayed superior perfor CONCLUSION This retrospective study concluded that TES combined with traditional speech and psychotherapy can effectively increase the levels of neurokines in the blood and enhance language function in patients with speech disorders.These results provide a promising avenue for integrating TES into standard treatment methods for speech disorders. 展开更多

AIM: To investigate the serum level of the brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in age -related macular degeneration (AMD) and healthy control subjects. The disruption in the tight balance of neuroinflammatory and neuroprotective processes in an immune -privileged site like retina is proposed to contribute to the pathogenesis of AMD. One of the main neuroprotective mediators in the central nervous system Is BDNF with its serum level notably affected in several neurodegenerative disorders. METHODS: Thirty-six patients'with AMD and 36 age-matched controls were enrolled in this study. The serum level of BDNF was measured using the enzyme -linked immunosorbent assay method. Results were analyzed to compare case and control values. Comparisons were also made between the BDNF level of wet- vsdry-AMD, and male vs female patients and controls. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Student's t-test were employed to analyze the data. RESULTS: The mean BDNF levels in AMD group were significantly higher than the control group. Furthermore, our analysis revealed greater BDNF values in all AMD subgroups compared to controls (P=0.004, 0.005, 0.001 and 0.02 for male wet-AMD, male dry-AMD, female wetAMD and female dry-AMD vscontrols, respectively). The BDNF level however did not vary between wet- and dryAMD patients (P=0.74). While within-group comparisons in males and females of AMD and control groups did not show any difference in BDNF (P=0.16, 0.64 and 0.85 for wet -AMD, dry -AMD and control groups, respectively), between -group data showed a higher mean BDNF in both male and female AMD subjects than their peer controls. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that the serum BDNF level is different in patients with AMD as compared to subjects without AMD. Future attempts should be done to unravel beneficial or deleterious effect of this neurotrophin in the pathogenesis of AMD. 展开更多

The Chinese herb Shuyusan, whose main constituent is jasminoidin, has been shown to protect SH-SY5Y cells against corticosterone-induced damage. SH-SY5Y cells injured by 400 μmol/L cor- ticosterone were treated with 5 and 30 μg/mL Shuyusan-containing serum. Results revealed that Shuyusan-containing serum elevated the survival rate of SH-SY5Y cells, reduced Bax expression, increased Bcl-2 expression, markedly elevated brain-derived neurotrophic factor mRNA expression, and blocked cell apoptosis. Moreover, the effect of high-dose (30 μg/mL) Shuyusan-containing se- rum was more remarkable. Therefore, Shuyusan-containing serum appears to protect SH-SY5Y cells against corticosterone-induced impairment by adjusting the expression of apoptosis-associ- ated proteins and brain-derived neurotrophic factor. Moreover, high-dose Shuyusan-containing se- rum has a protective effect on high-dose corticosterone-induced impairment. 展开更多

奥扎格雷钠联合阿加曲班治疗急性脑梗死的临床效果

目的探讨奥扎格雷钠联合阿加曲班对急性脑梗死(acute cerebral infarction,ACI)患者的应用效果及对血清脑源性神经因子(brain-derived neurofactor,BDNF)和血液流变学的影响。方法选取收治的ACI患者100例,随机均分为观察组(n=50)和对照... 目的探讨奥扎格雷钠联合阿加曲班对急性脑梗死(acute cerebral infarction,ACI)患者的应用效果及对血清脑源性神经因子(brain-derived neurofactor,BDNF)和血液流变学的影响。方法选取收治的ACI患者100例,随机均分为观察组(n=50)和对照组(n=50)。对照组用奥扎格雷钠治疗,观察组在对照组治疗的基础上联合应用阿加曲班治疗,均持续治疗14 d。比较2组患者的临床疗效;采用美国国立卫生研究院卒中量表(National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale,NIHSS)评估患者的神经功能,采用格拉斯哥昏迷评分(Glasgow coma scale,GCS)评估患者的意识状况;比较2组患者的血液流变学指标;比较2组患者的BDNF和脑血管储备能力;比较2组患者治疗期间不良反应的发生率。结果治疗后,观察组患者的总有效率(96.00%)高于对照组(84.00%);观察组患者的NIHSS评分低于对照组(P<0.05),GCS评分高于对照组(P<0.05);观察组患者的全血高切黏度、全血低切黏度和血浆黏度均显著低于对照组(P<0.05);观察组患者的血清BDNF和脑血管储备能力均高于对照组(P<0.05);治疗期间2组不良反应发生率比较差异无统计学意义(P>0.05)。结论采用奥扎格雷钠联合阿加曲班治疗ACI有良好的的临床效果,可有效改善患者的血清BDNF和血液流变学水平。 展开更多

目的:评价丙戊酸钠联合奥卡西平治疗小儿癫痫的疗效及对患儿脑电图、认知功能和血清神经因子的影响。方法:选入2019年1月~2022年12月收治的癫痫患儿104例,根据治疗方法不同分为单药组(丙戊酸钠治疗)和联合组(丙戊酸钠+奥卡西平治疗),各5... 目的:评价丙戊酸钠联合奥卡西平治疗小儿癫痫的疗效及对患儿脑电图、认知功能和血清神经因子的影响。方法:选入2019年1月~2022年12月收治的癫痫患儿104例,根据治疗方法不同分为单药组(丙戊酸钠治疗)和联合组(丙戊酸钠+奥卡西平治疗),各52例。评价两组的临床疗效、脑电图、认知功能、血清神经因子等指标,并进行统计比较。结果:联合组治疗后癫痫发作频率及每次持续时间显著低于单药组(P<0.05),EEG显示痫样放电率、总异常亦明显低于单药组(P<0.05);联合组治疗总有效率94.23%,明显高于单药组的71.15%(P<0.05);两组治疗后WISC-CR量表VIQ、PIQ和FIQ评分均较治疗前明显升高(P<0.05),而联合组升高幅度更大,与单药组差异显著(P<0.05);治疗前,两组血清BDNF、NSE和S-100β蛋白无明显差异(P>0.05),而治疗后,联合组血清BDNF水平明显高于单药组、NSE和S-100β水平显著低于单药组(P<0.05);两组不良反应总发生率无差异(P>0.05)。结论:丙戊酸钠联合奥卡西平治疗小儿癫痫疗效较好,可有效缓解临床症状,控制脑部异常放电,改善认知功能,调节血清神经因子水平,且安全性良好。 展开更多

Observation on promoting resuscitation in the patients with coma of acute carbon monoxide poisoning by acupuncture combined with hyperbaric oxygen

Objective:To evaluate the effect of promoting resuscitation and the effect differences between acupuncture combined with hyperbaric oxygen therapy(HBOT)and simple HBOT in the patients with coma of acute carbon monoxide poisoning(ACMP).Methods:A total of 36 patients with ACMP coma were randomized into a simple HBOT group and acupuncture combined with HBOT group,18 cases in each one.In the simple HBOT group,HBOT was provided once a day for 2 weeks.In the acupuncture combined with HBOT group,acupuncture was provided during HBOT.The acupuncture was given before the patients were sent to the hyperbaric oxygen chamber and the needles were retained until the hyperbaric oxygen treatment was completed.The acupoints included B?ihuì(百会 GV 20),Shuǐgōu(水沟 GV 26),Sìshéncōng(四神聪 EX-HN1),Fēngchí(风池 GB20),Hégǔ(合谷 LI 4),Tàichōng(太冲 LR 3)and Yǒngquán(涌泉 KI 1).The needles were retained through the entire process of HBOT.Such combined treatment was given once a day for 2 weeks.Before the treatment,the score of Glasgow Coma Scale(GCS)was recorded,the levels of serum interleukin-6(IL-6),interleukin-8(IL-8)and brain-derived growth factor(BDNF)were tested and the time from unconsciousness to resuscitation was recorded of the two groups.After treatment,the levels of serum IL-6,IL-8 and BDNF were tested again and the clinical therapeutic effects were evaluated.Results:At last,there were 16 cases in the simple HBOT group and 17 cases in acupuncture combined with HBOT group got resuscitation.The time from unconsciousness to resuscitation was(5.17±1.10)h in the acupuncture combined with HBOT group,which was less than(6.83±2.73)h in the simple HBOT group,indicating the significant difference in statistic(P<0.05).After treatment,the total effective rate was 94.4% in the acupuncture combined with HBOT group,which was higher than 88.9% in the simple HBOT group,indicating the significant difference in statistic(P<0.05).After treatment,the levels of serum IL-6 and IL-8 were(29.72±3.49)and(67.17±7.61)pg/mL respectively in the acupuncture combined with HBOT group,which were lower as compared with those before treatment,indicating the significant differences in statistic(both P<0.05).The level of IL-8 in the acupuncture combined with HBOT group was lower than(72.67±7.17)pg/mL in the simple HBOT group after treatment,indicating the significant difference in statistic(P<0.05).After treatment,the level of BDNF was(14.78±3.90)pg/mL in the acupuncture combined with HBOT group,higher than the level before treatment,presenting the significant difference(P<0.05),and higher than(12.93 ± 2.59)pg/mL in the simple HBOT group after treatment,presenting the significant difference in statistic(P<0.05).Conclusion:Acupuncture combined with HBOT achieves the superior effect of promoting resuscitation and the clinical therapeutic effects as compared with the simple HBOT.Such combined treatment reduces the levels of serum IL-6 and IL-8,increases the level of serum BDNF in ACMP patients,as well as plays the active role in the prevention from delayed encephalopathy after acute carbon monoxide poisoning. 展开更多
