The development of devices to improve the accessibility of buildings and urban spaces for people with disabilities through 3D priming technology is still not broadly explored. The present study is focused on filling this gap, with the realization of a tactile map of the MTE (Museum of Electrical Technology) of the University of Pavia (Italy) for blind and visually impaired people. The tactile map represents the building plan with all the information to guide the visit. The device is the result of a research process which is made by several steps and experimental tests, aimed at setting the best 3D priming profiles to meet all the requirements of the end-users. This paper describes methods and strategies applied to reach these goals: it underlines the social and technical approaches, the experimental phases and its possible future developments.展开更多

This paper provides a comprehensive understanding about BPL with its implementation prospects. In this context, the existing power grid infrastructures are discussed elaborately. BPL system functionality with its components and its benefits over other access technologies is also pointed out. Implementation scenarios for various deployment options are illustrated here. The different implementation challenges for BPL system, such as the characteristics of power lines, attenuation problem, noise, potential interference with the other radio frequencies are also presented with their remedies. Comparative analysis between several broadband access technologies shows the feasibility of BPL deployments all over the world.展开更多

The considered enhancements include Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC), Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ), Node B fast scheduling and sharing of uplink channel resources between User Equipments (UE). New Media Access Control protocol entities (MAC-e and MAC-es) are adopted to enhance and optimize protocols. However, the participant of consumers challenges the current power systems with system integration and cooperation and security issues. In this paper, the authors introduce a service-oriented approach to AMI aiming at solving the intercommunication problem and meanwhile providing a trust and secure environment for smart grids. In this approach heterogeneous systems expose services to the network. System integration and cooperation are done through service composition. A generic service interfacing method is designed to develop standardized services for heterogeneous power systems. Moreover, role-based access control mechanism is used to guarantee the secure access to smart grids. With the seamless communication between consumers and power systems and among power systems themselves, this service-oriented AMI can associate consumers with actual system workload and furthermore support the intelligent running of power systems.展开更多
How enterprises overcome the digital divide in a digital economy is a topic related to efficiency and fairness.The formation of the digital divide has showcased a certain level of objectivity and is also influenced by...How enterprises overcome the digital divide in a digital economy is a topic related to efficiency and fairness.The formation of the digital divide has showcased a certain level of objectivity and is also influenced by the characteristics of enterprises themselves.Based on the model that expands the information and communication technology(ICT)access,concept,we explored the digital divide’s formation logic of the digital divide and feasible ways to cross it.Our findings shed light on its formation logic,which includes elements of the subjective will of enterprises to transform,the fear of transformation,the dependence on development paths,and the cost of using digital technology,all of which have contributed to disparities in enterprises’motivational access.In addition,differences in the construction of digital infrastructure,financial strengths,business models,and heterogeneity in cluster networks have led to differences in enterprises’material access.The absorptive capacity of enterprises has affected their skill access,while the management capability influences the application access of enterprises.We also found that crossing the digital divide requires the joint efforts of governments,markets,and enterprises in the four access dimensions.展开更多
