Based on the abundant information from drilling, cores, and logging, the influence of topography, size of rivers and lakes, climate changes and the lake level's fluctuation on the sandbodies at shallow-water delta fr...Based on the abundant information from drilling, cores, and logging, the influence of topography, size of rivers and lakes, climate changes and the lake level's fluctuation on the sandbodies at shallow-water delta front are systematically summarized and the sedimentary dynamic processes are analyzed. The interwell communication among the sandbodies and their planar distribution revealed from the hydrodynamic features of the development wells are integrated during the analysis. The fundamental requirements for the development of the shallow-water delta included flat topography and uniform subsiding rate. The delta plain was connected smoothly with the wide delta front and predelta, without the three-fold structure of topset, foreset, and bottomset as defined in the Gilbert Delta Model. Because of the weak fluvial effect and the lake energy is strong, the small and scattered shallow-water delta is destroyed by the scouring-backwashing, coastal current, and lake wave, resulting in the coastal sheet deposition. As the fluvial effect became stronger and the lake energy became weaker, the shape of the shallow-water deltas transferred from sheets to lumps and then branches.展开更多

Here thin sandbodies refer to those less than 10 m in thickness, or even less than 1-2 m. It is difficult to depict thin-layer sandbodies of different genetic types using conventional core, well logging and seismic data due to their limited vertical resolution in petroliferous basins. However, seismic sedimentology provides a new research method especially tbr thin sandbody interpretation, i.e., validating interpreted sedimentary sandbodies from 3D seismic data based on horizontal resolution, stratal slice and seismic geomorphology interpretation. Based on the analysis of core,logging,and testing data,the fourth member of the Cretaceous Quantou Formation(K_(2)q^(4))in the Sanzhao depression,Songliao Basin,is investigated in order to understand the sedimentary c...Based on the analysis of core,logging,and testing data,the fourth member of the Cretaceous Quantou Formation(K_(2)q^(4))in the Sanzhao depression,Songliao Basin,is investigated in order to understand the sedimentary characteristics and hydrocarbon exploration significance of a retrograding shallow-water delta.The results show that during the sedimentary period of K_(2)q^(4),the Sanzhao depression with a gentle basement experienced stable tectonic subsidence and suffered a long-term lake level rise caused by paleoclimate changes(from semiarid to semihumid),the K_(2)q^(4)in the study area were dominated by a fining-upward deltaic succession and had relatively stable thickness.From the bottom to the top,the color of mudstone gradually changes from purplish-red to gray and grayish-green,the contents of caliche nodules decrease gradually,while the presence of pyrite in sediments becomes frequent.Channel sandstones mainly composed of siltstone and fine sandstone with developed high-energy sedimentary structures constitute the main sand bodies of deltaic deposits,but the scale of channel sandstones decrease upward.Despite the long-term lake level rise and fining-upward sedimentary succession,purplish-red mudstone,caliche nodules and thin channel sandstones are still broadly distributed in the study area,and thin channel sandstones can be found at the top of K_(2)q^(4)covered by the black oil shale of Qingshankou Formation.These assertations suggest that the study area was dominated by retrograding shallow-water delta deposits during the sedimentary period of K_(2)q^(4).In comparison with modern Poyang Lake,we infer that during the sedimentary period of K_(2)q^(4),the study area experienced frequent lake level fluctuations triggered by paleoclimate changes despite the long-term lake level rise,and the lake level fluctuations control the deposition of retrograding shallow-water delta.In addition,most of the thin channel sandstones distributed at the top of K_(2)q^(4)and covered by black oil shale are generally immersed in oil,indicating that the thin channel sandstones formed at the top of a retrograding shallow-water delta sedimentary succession are favorable targets for lithological reservoir exploration.展开更多

This case restricts development of soil horizons in profile. These soils have the capacity to swell and shrink, inducing cracks in the upper parts of the soil and distinctive soil structure throughout the soil. The formation of these specific features are caused by a heavy texture, a dominance of swelling clay in the fine fraction and marked changes in moisture content. The swell-shrink behavior is attributed to the wetting and drying of the soil mass. In this study, morphology, physico-chemical characteristics and classification of vertisols that were formed on alluvial delta plains, were investigated. Those soils formed on the Bafra Plain found in the K?z?l?rmak Delta and located in the central Black Sea region of Turkey. All studied Vertisols are characterised by a dark colour in surface soil, a heavy clayey texture, hardpan formation under top soil (high bulk density a high compaction) and very high COLE values. In addition, they have deep wide-opened desiccation cracks at the surface, slickensides at the middle part of the profiles and a poor differentiation of their horizons. Physico-chemically, the studied soils are slightly basic to very basic, non-saline and poor in organic matter, which is slightly higher in the surface horizon. In addition, cation exchange capacity, sum of exchangeable bases and base saturation of soils are very high. On the basis of morphological and physicochemical analysis, soil profiles were classified as Sodic Haplustert, Typic Calciaquert, Sodic Calciustert according to Soil Taxonomy (Soil Survey Staff, 1975 and 1999) and as Sodic Vertisol and Calcic Vertisol according to FAO/ISRIC (2006) classification systems.展开更多
In the Fuyu Reservoir of Songliao Basin, there occur a series of well-developed peculiar shallow lake delta facies, which can be divided to such three ones as the upper delta plain subfacies, the lower delta plain sub...In the Fuyu Reservoir of Songliao Basin, there occur a series of well-developed peculiar shallow lake delta facies, which can be divided to such three ones as the upper delta plain subfacies, the lower delta plain subfacies, and the delta front subfacies. Among them the upper delta plain subfacies mainly grows proximal distributary channels; the lower delta plain subfacies mainly grows distal ones. The entire Fuyu Reservoir has mainly developed 7 kinds of distributary channel patterns: proximal/ distal meandering type distributary channels, proximal/distal low-sinuosity type distributary channels, proximal/distal straight type distributary channels, and subaqueous distributary channels. Among these patterns, the proximal and distal meandering type distributary channels have bigger thickness of point bar and better sorting and low content of mud; moreover, they are the major reservoirs and occur in the bottom of Quan-4th member. The sandbars of the subaqueous distributary channels have higher mud content, and serve as the poorer reservoirs, and mainly occur in the top of Quan-4th member.展开更多

The intent was to find out if frequent well failure was as a result...The hydraulic properties of deeper Coastal Plain Sands, which form the main aquifer in the Niger Delta, were investigated around Eleme, Rivers State. The intent was to find out if frequent well failure was as a result of the aquifer not having enough transmitting capacity to sustain the huge withdrawal necessary for Eleme and its environs where demand for groundwater withdrawal is very high because Eleme axis serves as a major industrial axis of River State or whether the frequent well failure was due to inefficient well construction practice. Constant discharge pumping tests were conducted in 8 deep borehole (250 - 310 m). Data generated during the test were analysed using Cooper-Jacob’s straight line method. The calculated transmissivity of the aquifers ranged from 1324 m2/day - 5815 m2/day. These values when compared with transmissivity values elsewhere indicate that the aquifers in the study area have excellent water yielding properties, plotting within the range of “Very Good” in water transmitting capacity scale. Coefficient of permeability ranged from 13.65 m/d - 59.9 m/d. Coefficient of Storage ranged from 28.2 × 10-5 - 29.1 × 10-5 while the Specific capacities of the wells ranged from 48.75 3 - 78.13 m3/d/m. It is concluded that the deep aquifers of the Niger Delta do possess the capacity to produce and sustain large groundwater withdrawal. It is further recommended that competent drilling contractors be engaged in deep well construction in the area.展开更多

In the future, the risk of flooding is possib...In the context of current climate change, an abnormality of flooding is a common form of disaster in Vietnam. Hanh Stream reservoir has occurred great flood in 1986, 2010. In the future, the risk of flooding is possible to happen again. In view of management of the risk of natural disasters: large flooding situation downstream is one of the most dangerous risks for the reservoir. Due to downstream of Hanh Stream reservoir is a narrow coastal plains, quick infrastructure development, especially interwoven road and railway systems, so that flood drainage ability will be affected greatly. The consciousness of risks that may be occurred in the future in order to propose preventive measures and proactive response to minimize damages always is the requirement for all projects. The hydrodynamic calculation, flooding maps, emergency plan to prevent flooding downstream of Hanh Stream reservoir is also needed. The article is raised the issue of requirements to calculate coastal narrow delta strip flooding in the Central of Vietnam when impacted by the upstream reservoir of flood discharge in terms of extreme heavy rain and flooding and presented computational methods of Mike software package for case flooded plain of Cam Ranh Bay in downstream reservoirs of Hanh Stream, Khanh Hoa Province, Vietnam.展开更多
The Huanghekou Sag is located at the southeast part of the Bohai Bay Basin, northern China. Large-scale shallow lake delta developed in the Neogene provided suitable geological conditions for the formation of a subtle...The Huanghekou Sag is located at the southeast part of the Bohai Bay Basin, northern China. Large-scale shallow lake delta developed in the Neogene provided suitable geological conditions for the formation of a subtle oil-gas reservoir in this area. The key for analyzing sandstone reservoir and sedimentary facies is by using seismic attributes(amplitude) to establish the relationship between lithology combination and seismic attributes. The lower unit of Late Miocene Minghuazhen Formation at the BZ34 block in the Huanghekou Sag was subdivided into 10 parasequence sets(PSS). Thicker sandstones mainly occurred in PSS1 and PSS10, whereas thin sandstones are mostly observed within other parasequence sets. This study presents statistics and analyses of lithology, i.e., statistics of root-meansquare(RMS) amplitude and lithology of well locations in different parasequence sets of the study area,as well as 1-D forward seismic models of 7 types of lithology combinations, the establishment of a spatial distribution of 2-D sandbody, forward seismic models etc. Our study indicates that high amplitude peaks correspond to thicker sandbodies, while low amplitude indicates non-development of sandbodies(generally less than 2 m), and medium amplitude agrees well with large sets of mudstones interbedded with medium and thinner sandstones. Different sand-mudstone combinations genetically reflect a combination of multiple micro-facies, therefore, amplitude features can predict sandbodies as well as facies characteristics.展开更多
