The results showed that both of the composites were dense, and the fibers were distributed uniformly in aluminum matrix. Aluminum carbide (Al4C3) was observed on the interface of the two carbon fiber-reinforced aluminum (Cf/Al) composites. There was little Al4C3 with a length of 300-500 nm and a width of 30-60 nm in the M40/Al composite, whereas there was a great deal of Al4C3 with a length of 200-400 nm and a width of 100-200 nm in the T700/Al composite, due to a higher graphitization of M40Cf than T700Cf. The M40/Al composite showed a much higher tensile strength than the TT00/Al composite, and it was related to interracial bonding between carbon fibers and aluminum matrices.展开更多

The infiltration quality and interfacial bonding behavior were investigated by SEM, EDS, XRD and tensile tests. The results show that there is an obvious interfacial reaction layer between the alloying steel and the Ni/Al2O3 composite ceramic. The interfacial reactive products are (FexAly)3O4 intermetallic phase and (AlxCry)2O3 solid solution. The interracial bonding strength is as high as about 67.5 MPa. The bonding mechanism of X10CrNi 18-8 steel with the composite ceramic is that Ni inside the ceramic bodies dissolves into the alloy melt and transforms into liquid channels, consequently inducing the steel melt infiltrating and filling in the pores and the liquid channels. Moreover, the metallurgical bonding and interfacial reactive bonding also play a key role on the stability of the bonding interface.展开更多

The deformation behavior and the defect structures were found to be strongly dependent on the loading conditions. An asymmetric tension-compression deformation behavior was thus found in graphene/Cu nanolaminates under the <112> loading, which was dominated by stacking faults and deformation twins formed by dislocation slide under tension and compression, respectively. High density and ordered nanotwins were formed at the graphene/Cu interfaces. Two different formation mechanisms of the twins were found under the <112> compression, and the nucleated twins were easy to be thickened with the assistance of the graphene wrinkles. Multiple twins were formed under the <110> compression by the dislocation cross-slip. This study provides a way to introduce graphene reinforcement and twin boundary to Cu matrix composites and design nanotwinned graphene/Cu composites with excellent mechanical performance.展开更多

One of these strips is made of a functionally graded material and the other of an isotropic material, which contains an edge crack perpendicular to and terminating at the interface. Fourier transforms and asymptotic analysis are employed to reduce the problem to a singular integral equation which is numerically solved using Gauss-Chebyshev quadrature formulae. Furthermore, a parametric study is carried out to investigate the effects of elastic and geometric characteristics of the composite on the values of stress intensity factor.展开更多

The shear angle and forming defects of the fabrics were measured on the hemisphere, under different blank holder forces(BHFs). The results showed that increasing BHF could enhance the shear angle slightly, reduce the asymmetry for the deformation of the fabrics, and change the main type of the process-induced defects. Besides, compression tests were performed on the corresponding composite components. By analyzing the change of fiber volume fraction and structural parameters of the textile reinforcements, the effects of draping behavior of NCFs on the mechanical performance of the composites were studied. The results reveal that draping process has distinguishable impacts on the mechanical properties of the final components, which is closely related to the stitching pattern of the NCFs.展开更多

A total of 12 reinforced concrete composite beams were tested: 10 of them were the RCCB subjected to two-phase uniformly distributed load, the other 2 were the comparative reinforced concrete beams cast at the same time as the RCCB subjected to one-phase uniformly distributed load. The interface of precast unit and recast concrete was natural and rough. The test range of the main composite factors: the ratio of precast section depth to composite section depth was from 0.35 to 0.65, the ratio of first-phase load moment to precast section ultimate bearing moment was from 0.25 to 0.65. Based on the test results, the stresses of the longitudinal reinforcements and stirrups, the load-bearing properties of the interface, the crack state and the failure characteristics of the RCCB under uniformly distributed load are discussed. The effects of the stirrups, the concrete strength and the composite factors on the shear resistance of the RCCB are analyzed, and the method for evaluating the shear resistance of the RCCB is proposed.展开更多

The damping properties of BaTiO3 ceramic, Al matrix and BaTiO3/Al composites were examined by dynamic mechanical analysis in the temperature range from 273 K to 573 K. The results show that although BaTiO3 exhibits high damping (tan δ=0.12) below 400 K, the damping capacity of 10%BaTiO3/Al (mass fraction) composites below 400 K is not increased as compared to the Al matrix. On the other hand, the damping capacity above 450 K is greatly enhanced due to the motion of dislocations at the interfaces between ceramic particles and Al matrix. The failure of exerting the intrinsic damping of BaTiO3 particles in the composites is attributed to the poor interface bonding between the particles and the matrix. The tensile strength of the composite is 42% higher than that of the Al matrix, which indicates the possibility of obtaining high strength and high damping composites via interface improvement and the addition of high volume fraction of large grain BaTiO3 particles.展开更多

文摘Because inferior mechanical strength of granite polymer composite(GPC)has become the main drawback limiting its application and popularization,Mo fibers were added into(GPC)to improve its mechanical strength.Mechanical properties of matrix materials with different mass ratio of resin and stabilizer(MRRS)were investigated systematically. The influences of MRRS on interface bonding strength of Mo fiber-matrix,wettability and mechanical strength of GPC were discussed, respectively, and the theoretical calculation result of MRRS k was obtained, with the optimal value of k=4.When k=4,tensile strength, tensile strain and fracture stress of the cured resin achieve the maximum values. But for k=7,the corresponding values reach the minimum. With the increase of MRRS k,surface free energy of the cured resin first increases and then decreases, while contact angles between Mo sample and matrix have displayed the opposite trend.Wettability of resin to Mo fiber is the best at k=4.Pulling load of Mo fiber and interface bonding strength appear the maximum at k=4,followed by k=5,k=3 the third, and k=7 the minimum. When k=4,mechanical properties of Mo fiber-reinforced GPC are optimal, which is consistent with the result of theoretical calculation. This study is of great significance to get better component formulas of Mo fiber reinforced GPC and to improve its application in machine tools.

文摘As one of the most widely used personal protective equipment(PPE),body armors play an important role in protecting the human body from the high-velocity impact of bullets or projectiles. The body torso and critical organs of the wear may suffer severe behind-armor blunt trauma(BABT)even though the impactor is stopped by the body armor.A type of novel composite material through incorporating shear stiffening gel(STG)into ethylene-vinyl acetate(EVA)foam is developed and used as buffer layers to reduce BABT.In this paper, the protective performance of body armors composed of fabric bulletproof layers and a buffer layer made of foam material is investigated both experimentally and numerically. The effectiveness of STG-modified EVA in damage relief is verified by ballistic tests. In parallel with the experimental study, numerical simulations are conducted by LS-DYNA®to investigate the dynamic response of each component and capture the key mechanical parameters, which are hardly obtained from field tests. To fully describe the material behavior under the transient impact, the selected constitutive models take the failure and strain rate effect into consideration.A good agreement between the experimental observations and numerical results is achieved to prove the validity of the modelling method. The tests and simulations show that the impact-induced deformation on the human body is significantly reduced by using STG-modified EVA as the buffering material. The improvement of protective performance is attributed to better dynamic properties and more outstanding energy absorption capability of the composite foam.

文摘We conducted molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of tension and compression along the <112> direction and MD simulations of compression along the <110> and <111> directions on nanolaminated graphene/Cu (NGCu) composites to investigate the effects of the incorporated graphene and the deformation mechanisms related to the loading direction. This study provides a way to introduce graphene reinforcement and twin boundary to Cu matrix composites and design nanotwinned graphene/Cu composites with excellent mechanical performance.
文摘The present work is concerned with the problem of mode Ⅲ crack perpendicular to the interface of a bi-strip composite. Furthermore, a parametric study is carried out to investigate the effects of elastic and geometric characteristics of the composite on the values of stress intensity factor.

文摘In order to investigate the draping behavior of non-crimp fabrics(NCFs), two types of carbon NCFs with tricot-chain stitches or chain stitches were formed on a hemispherical mould via a stretch forming process. The results reveal that draping process has distinguishable impacts on the mechanical properties of the final components, which is closely related to the stitching pattern of the NCFs.

文摘An experimental program was carried out to study the shear behavior of the reinforced concrete composite beam (RCCB) subjected to two-phase uniformly distributed load. The effects of the stirrups, the concrete strength and the composite factors on the shear resistance of the RCCB are analyzed, and the method for evaluating the shear resistance of the RCCB is proposed.
文摘This paper developed a hot Pressing aided exothermic synthesis (HPES) technique. to fabricate NiAl matrix composites containing 0 and 20 v.% TiB_2 particles. The conversion to the product was complete. and TiB_2 particles in the matrix were uniformly dispersed. The inter faces between nail and TiB_2 were atomically flat. sharp and free from any inter facial phases in most cases. In some cases. however. thin inter facial amorphous layers existed at NiAl/ TiB_2 interfaces. In addition, the microstructure and inter faces were highly thermal stable. In all processing states. the yield strengths at room temperature or at 1000℃ of the composite were approximately three times as strong as that of the unrein forced NiAl. The ambient fracture toughness of the composite was also superior to monolithic NiAl.

文摘To develop new type of high damping metal matrix composites, large grain size barium titanate (BaTiO3) ceramic was sintered and added into Al powder to fabricate BaTiO3/Al composites through the powder metallurgy method and hot extrusion. The tensile strength of the composite is 42% higher than that of the Al matrix, which indicates the possibility of obtaining high strength and high damping composites via interface improvement and the addition of high volume fraction of large grain BaTiO3 particles.

文摘In-situ formed (Cu0.6Zr0.3Ti0.1)95Nb5 bulk metallic glass (BMG) composite with Nb-rich dendrite randomly dispersed in hard glassy matrix was prepared by casting into a water-cooled copper mold. The dendrite has much smaller hardness and elastic modulus than glassy matrix, and the stress concentration at interface provides a channel for the initiating and branching of shear bands upon loading, thus leading to a high compressive fracture strain of 6.08% and fracture strength about 2200 MPa. Comparing with other Cu-based BMG composite, the fracture strength of present (Cu0.6Zr0.3Ti0.1)95Nb5 composite is not significantly reduced, indicating that the addition of Nb in the current work is an effective and effortless way to fabricate new practical BMG composites with enhanced strength and good plasticity.
