Objective: To observe the short ̄term efficacy and safety of Shenqi mixture (参芪合剂, SQM) combined with microwave coagulation in treating primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).Methods: Seventy-two patients with pri...Objective: To observe the short ̄term efficacy and safety of Shenqi mixture (参芪合剂, SQM) combined with microwave coagulation in treating primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).Methods: Seventy-two patients with primary HCC of stage Ⅱ-Ⅲ, Karnofsky scoring ≥50 scores and predicted survival period ≥3 months were selected and randomly assigned into two groups, the treated group and the control group, 36 in each. Microwave therapy was applied to both groups by double leads, 60 W, 800 sec once a week for two weeks. To the treated group, SQM was given additionally through oral intake of 20 ml, three times a day for 1 month. The changes in tumor size, main symptoms, serum level of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), immune function and adverse reaction were observed after treatment and the immune parameters of the patients were compared with 30 healthy persons in the normal control group. Results: (1) In the SQM treated group, after treatment 3 patients got completely remitted (CR), 24 partial remitted (PR), 4 unchanged (NC) and 5 progressively deteriorated (PD), the effective rate being 75.00%; while in the control group, 1 got CR, 19 PR, 9 NC and 7 PD, the effective rate being 55.56%. Comparison of the effective rate between the two groups showed significant difference (P<0.05). (2) AFP level decreased after treatment in both groups, but the decrement in the treated group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.01). (3) After treatment, in the treated group, CD3+, CD4+, CD4+/CD8+ and NK activity were improved, Karnofsky scores increased and liver function bettered, with these improvements significantly superior to those in the control group (P<0.01). (4) The improvement in symptoms such as hepatic region pain, fever, weakness, poor appetite and jaundice in the treated group after treatment was also superior to that in the control group (P<0.01). (5)The 12-month, 18-month and 24-month survival rates were higher and the recurrence rate was lower in the treated group than those in the control group, showing significant difference (P<0.05). Conclusion: Combined therapy with SQM and microwave coagulation could not only kill the tumor and residue tumor cells to prevent recurrence, but also enhance the cellular immunity of organism. It is one of the effective therapies for patients with middle-advanced hepatocarcinoma, who have lost the chance of surgical operation. It could improve clinical symptoms, elevate the quality of life, prolong the survival period of patients, but shows no evident adverse reaction.展开更多

Methods: Forty patients with PADAM were treated with JSP, the efficacy was evaluated with international index of erectile function (IIEF) scoring, PADAM questionnaire scoring, hormone, prostatic specific antigen (PSA), etc., and the data before treatment were compared with those after treatment in the same group. Results: After 3 months of treatment, PADAM scoring and IIEF scoring were all significantly improved. Symptoms regarding physical ability, vasomotion, and psychical and mental condition all got improved more markedly than symptoms regarding sexual hypofunction. The serum level of testosterone was 3.85±0.36 before treatment and 5.02±0.83 after treatmnet (P〈0.05); luteinizing hormone of 7.33±2.14 and 4.84±1.43 (P〈0.01), follicule-stimulating hormone of 10.22±4.48 and 6.47±3.28 (P〈0.01), respectively. The level of PSA failed to change significantly (1.94±0.55 and 2.06±0.47, P〉0.05). Conclusion: JSP is effective and safe in treating PADAM, the mechanism of it is different from supplementing extrinsic androgen. It may have produced the effect by means of favorably regulating the condition of sex hormone to improve the balance of pituitary-sex gland axis, so it has more extensive clinical application.展开更多
The main purpose of this study was to investigate the active components of the Chinese medicine formula Shenqi San(SS) by high performance liquid chromatography with diode array detector and electrospray ionization-...The main purpose of this study was to investigate the active components of the Chinese medicine formula Shenqi San(SS) by high performance liquid chromatography with diode array detector and electrospray ionization-hybrid quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrum(HPLC-DADESI-QTOF-MS), and demonstrate the anticancer mechanism of SS on human lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells by evaluating the cell proliferation and apoptosis induction. The chloroform extraction of SS(CE-SS) was extracted from SS, while HPLC-DAD-ESI-QTOF-MS assay was performed to identify components of CE-SS. MTT assay was used to quantify the proliferation of A549 cells with the treatment of CE-SS. Apoptosis analysis was carried out by detecting phosphatidylserine(PS) externalization using the Annexin V-FITC Apoptosis Detection Kit and the stained cells were analyzed with a flow cytometer. DAPI staining assay was carried out to observe morphological characteristics of apoptotic cells. Western blotting was used to detect the expression of important signaling proteins including caspase-3,-8,-9, p53, Bax and Bcl-2. Eight compounds were identified through HPLC-DAD-ESI-QTOF-MS analysis and 3-pyridine carboxylic acid, barbatin C, scutebarbatine F and barbatine D might be the main compounds responsible for the antitumor effect of CE-SS. CE-SS suppressed the proliferation of lung cancer A549 cells in a time-and dose-dependent manner. By Annexin V-FITC/PI double staining, we found that treatment with CE-SS induced apoptosis in A549 cells. After 24-h exposure to CE-SS, the expression of cleaved-caspase-9, cleaved-caspase-8 and cleaved-caspase-3 protein was activated, the expression of p53 protein increased while the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2 also increased. This study identified the eight compounds of CE-SS, and demonstrated their anticancer effect on human lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells via induction of apoptosis.展开更多

Methods: During the pe...Objective: To evaluate clinical effects of Shenqi Fuzheng Injection (参芪抉正注射液) in the neoadjuvant chemotherapy for local advanced breast cancer and the effects on T-lymphocyte subsets. Methods: During the period from 2000 to 2005, 126 patients with local advanced breast cancer were treated with the neoadjuvant chemotherapy. They were randomly divided into the following two groups: a control group of 61 cases treated by chemotherapy alone and a study group of 65 cases treated by chemotherapy plus Shenqi Fuzheng Injection, All the cases of both groups were given the CEF (CTX 500 mg/m^2, d1, 8; EP140 mg/m^2, d1, 8; and 5-Fu 500 mg/m^2, d1,8) regimen. The clinical effects, the effects on T-lymphocyte subgroup and NK cells, and the toxic side effects were observed. Results: All the patients completed two cycles of the chemotherapy, and the efficacy and the toxic side effects were evaluated. For the primary tumor in the breast, the total effective rate was 69.2% (45/65) in the study group and 49.2% (30/61) in the control group with a statistically significant difference in the intergroup comparison (x^2=5.251, P=0.022, 〈 0.05). There was no progression of the disease in both the groups, and there were no grade IV toxic side effects in the two groups. The major toxic responses were myelosuppression and gastrointestinal reaction, which were milder in the study group than the control group, and with a shorter recovery course in the former than the latter. Besides, an obvious rise of the T-lymphocyte subgroup and NK cells was found in the study group after the neoadjuvant chemotherapy, with a very significant difference from the controls (P〈0.01). Conclusions: Shenqi Fuzheng Injection can improve and regulate immune function of the patients with local advanced breast cancer given the neoadjuvant chemotherapy, and therefore it can enhance the curative effect and reduce the side effect as well.展开更多

[Methods] Databases,such as China National Knowledge Infrastructure( CNKI),Wanfang,China biomedical literature service system( CBM),CQVIP,Medline,and Cochrane,were searched for the time before April 2017. The randomized controlled trial( RCT) that met the inclusion criteria was screened. Then,quality evaluation was made based on the modified Jadad scale. Data were extracted and meta-analysis was made with the aid of Review Manager 5. 3. [Results] Finally,21 papers met the inclusion criteria,including 2 high quality papers. The average Jadad score was 2. 5 points,1 589 patients were included. The aim of the present study was to investigate the neuroprotective effects of Shenqi Fuzheng injection in cerebral ischemia and reperfusion. Aged rats(20–22 months) were divided into three groups: sham, model, and treatment. Shenqi Fuzheng injection or saline(40 m L/kg) was injected into the tail vein daily for 1 week, after which a cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury model was established. Compared with model rats that received saline, rats in the treatment group had smaller infarct volumes, lower brain water and malondialdehyde content, lower brain Ca2+ levels, lower activities of serum lactate dehydrogenase and creatine kinase, and higher superoxide dismutase activity. In addition, the treatment group showed less damage to the brain tissue ultrastructure and better neurological function. Our findings indicate that Shenqi Fuzheng injection exerts neuroprotective effects in aged rats with cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury, and that the underlying mechanism relies on oxygen free radical scavenging and inhibition of brain Ca2+ accumulation.展开更多

[Conclusions]The clinical effect of Shenqi Fuzheng Injection in the treatment of colorectal cancer is better than that of chemotherapy alone,but it needs more highquality RCTs to improve the level of research.

文摘Shenqi Fuzheng injection is extracted from the Chinese herbs Radix Astragali and Radix Codonopsis. The aim of the present study was to investigate the neuroprotective effects of Shenqi Fuzheng injection in cerebral ischemia and reperfusion. Aged rats(20–22 months) were divided into three groups: sham, model, and treatment. Shenqi Fuzheng injection or saline(40 m L/kg) was injected into the tail vein daily for 1 week, after which a cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury model was established. Compared with model rats that received saline, rats in the treatment group had smaller infarct volumes, lower brain water and malondialdehyde content, lower brain Ca2+ levels, lower activities of serum lactate dehydrogenase and creatine kinase, and higher superoxide dismutase activity. In addition, the treatment group showed less damage to the brain tissue ultrastructure and better neurological function. Our findings indicate that Shenqi Fuzheng injection exerts neuroprotective effects in aged rats with cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury, and that the underlying mechanism relies on oxygen free radical scavenging and inhibition of brain Ca2+ accumulation.
