The objective of this study is to test the zinc coating of the steel plate. A literature review was conducted to identify the zinc coating techniques, and the companies that can provide different coating service was identified. A salt fog chamber was built that was in compliance with the ANSI B117 code, and the steel plates that were coated by the identified companies were tested using the salt fog chamber. The results indicated that the coating technique that had the best performance in preventing corrosion was the Greenkote plates with passivation. The galvanized option had the roughest coating layer, and it was the most reactive in the salt water solution. This makes it non-ideal for the dynamic rail environment because the increased friction of the plate could damage the supports, especially during extreme temperatures that would cause the rail to expand or contract. Greenkote with Phosphate and ArmorGalv also provided increased corrosion prevention with a smooth, strong finish, but it had more rust on the surface area than the Greenkote with ELU passivation. The ArmorGalv sample had more rust on the surface area than the Greenkote samples. This may not be a weakness in the ArmorGalv process;rather, it likely was the result of this particular sample not having the added protection of a colored coating.展开更多

The characterizations of the coating are analyzed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD). Interfacial contact resistance(ICR) between the coated sample and carbon paper is 4.9 m cm^2 under 150 N/cm^2,which is much lower than that of the SS316 L substrate. Potentiodynamic and potentiostatic tests are performed in the simulated PEMFC working conditions to investigate the corrosion behaviors of the coated sample. Superior anticorrosion performance is observed for the coated sample, whose corrosion current density is 0.12 μA/cm2. Surface morphology results after corrosion tests indicate that the substrate is well protected by the multilayer coating. Performances of the single cell with the multilayer coated SS316 L bipolar plate are improved significantly compared with that of the cell with the uncoated SS316 L bipolar plate, presenting a great potential for PEMFC application.展开更多

The detrimental effect from the formation of TFe,TiC,and a Si-enriched layer on the bonding strength was clarified, and an industrial-scaled titanium-clad steel plate with shear strength over 200 MPa was produced with a carefully set schedule accordingly. It was found that hot rolling titanium-clad steel plates had a flat interface without obvious cracks. In the rolling process, both Ti and Fe atoms interdiffused, but Fe diffused much faster than Ti. The Fe-diffused area consisted of three regions. After a high temperature heat treatment, the diffusion depth of Fe and Ti elements increased significantly and evident Si segregation and TiFe layers were identified. Thermal cracking initiated in the Si segregation layer and then propagated along the TiFe layer and Fe-diffused layer on the titanium side.展开更多

The method involved welding the mixed steel U-rib-stiffened plates for a structure with different sizes and different strength ratios of U-rib to plate. Based on a welding residual stress numerical simulation method validated by the blind hole method test, the distribution law of the mixed steel U-rib stiffened plate was studied. The results showed that the change of plate width has little impact on the welding residual stress and that the ratio of the thicknesses of the plate to U-rib stiffeners, the thickness of the plate, and the thickness of the U-rib has a great influence on the distribution of the welding residual stress. The thickness of plate and steel strength also greatly influenced the distribution width of the residual tensile stress. The deformation and failure modes of the thin steel plates were analyzed. A new method was proposed according to the experimental results and the perforation phenomenon of the thin steel plates to determine the radius of the bulging region. In establishing this new method, a dynamic method combined with the plastic wave propagation concept based on the rigid plastic assumption was adopted. The whole perforation process was divided into four consecutive stages, namely, bulging deformation, dishing deformation, ductile hole enlargement, and projectile exit. On the basis of the energy conservation principle, a new model was developed to predict the residual velocities of hemispherical-nosed projectiles that perforate thin steel plates at low velocities. The results obtained from the theoretical calculations by the present model were compared with the experimental results. Theoretical predictions were in good agreement with the experimental results in terms of both the radius of the bulging region and the residual velocity of the projectile when the strain rate effects of the target material during each stage were considered.展开更多

The plates with thickness of 8.7 mm in which the ferrite grain size is smaller than 8 μm have been produced by special deformation process in the laboratory. Furthermore, the trial production of special plain carbon steel plates of 16-25 mm in thickness and 2 000-2 800 mm in width with fine grained ferrite has been successfully carried out in the Shougang Steel Plate Rolling Plant. The ferrite grain size is 5.5-7 μm in the surface layers and 9.5-15 μm in the central layer respectively. The yield strength is 320-360 MPa, tensile strength is 440-520 MPa and the elongation is 25%-34%. It is very important for the rolling plants to improve the low carbon steel plates′ mechanical properties. The results show that the ferrite grains in the surface layer can be refined effectively by the appropriate rolling process, and the strength can be also increased.展开更多

The corrosion resistance of this film in 0.5 mol·L^(-1) H_2SO_4 solution containing 5 ppm F- at 80°C was investigated using polarization tests. The results showed that the surface treatment of the SS316 L strongly affected the adhesion of the carbon coating to the stainless steel. Compared to the bare SS316 L, the Ag-doped carbon-coated SS316 L bipolar plate was remarkably more stable in both the anode and cathode environments of proton exchange membrane fuel cell(PEMFC) and the interface contact resistance between the specimen and Toray 060 carbon paper was reduced from 333.0 m?·cm^2 to 21.6 m?·cm^2 at a compaction pressure of 1.2 MPa.展开更多

The microstructure and mechanical properties before and after enameling were contrastively investigated, and the precipitates in the samples were analyzed using transmission electron microscope and energy dispersive spectrometer. The results show the ferrite grain size of the steel plate after high-temperature enamel firing to be fine, with a large number of TiC and Ti_4C_2S_2 precipitates dispersed throughout the ferrite matrix. After two rounds of enamel firing at a temperature range of 800-890 ℃,its yield strength can still reach342 MPa. The results of a hydrogen permeation test show that the hydrogen storage properties of the steel plate are much better than those of ordinary structural carbon steel. A better bubble structure in the enamel layer can be obtained by this steel plate, with no fish-scale defects on the enameled steel-plate surface.展开更多

文摘The paper describes field test results of 7.62×51 mm M61 AP(armour piercing) ammunition fired into mild steel targets at an outdoor range. The targets varied from 10 mm to 32 mm in thickness. The tests recorded penetration depth, probability of perforation(i.e.,complete penetration),muzzle and impact velocities, bullet mass, and plate yield strength and hardness. The measured penetration depth exhibited a variability of approximately±12%.The paper then compared ballistic test results with predictive models of steel penetration depth and thickness to prevent perforation.Statistical parameters were derived for muzzle and impact velocity, bullet mass, plate thickness, plate hardness, and model error.A Monte-Carlo probabilistic analysis was then developed to estimate the probability of plate perforation of 7.62 mm M61 AP ammunition for a range of impact velocities, and for mild steels, and High Hardness Armour(HHA) plates. This perforation fragility analysis considered the random variability of impact velocity, bullet mass, plate thickness, plate hardness, and model error.Such a probabilistic analysis allows for reliability-based design, where, for example, the plate thickness with 95% reliability(i.e.only 1 in 20 shots will penetrate the wall) can be estimated knowing the probabilistic distribution of perforation.Hence,it was found that the plate thickness to ensure a low 5% probability of perforation needs to be 11-15% thicker than required to have a 50/50 chance of perforation for mild steel plates.Plates would need to be 20-30% thicker if probability of perforation is reduced to zero.
文摘Presented in this study is the result of steel plates developed at laboratory by using the technique of chemistry design based on microstructure evolution. It has been shown that the produced 50mm thickness steel plates with yield and tensile strength being 420 MPa and 530 MPa respectively exhibit excellent large heat input weldability:the Charpy impact tests in the whole range of heat affected zone(HAZ) including the fusion line at the welded joint with large heat input of 100 -300 kJ/cm showed uniform impact toughness of above 140 J at -40℃.Welding simulations were also performed for heat inputs of 200-600 kJ/cm,which showed far better toughness at -20℃.Analysis on the results of the simulations and the practical welding tests were done and the microstructure evolution mechanisms were proposed. Finally suggestions were given to improve the simulation processes as well as chemistry modification.
文摘Considering the specialities of the steel plate production, the TMCP study has been carried out with Gleeble 2000 tester to explore the possibility of fine grained ferrite in the low carbon steel plates with the chemical composition of C 0.13-0.18, Si 0.12-0.18, Mn 0.50-0.65, P 0.010-0.025, and S 0.005-0.028. The results show that the ferrite grains in the surface layer can be refined effectively by the appropriate rolling process, and the strength can be also increased.

文摘Ni–Cr enrichment on stainless steel SS316 L resulting from chemical activation enabled the deposition of carbon by spraying a stable suspension of carbon nanoparticles; trace Ag was deposited in situ to prepare a thin continuous Ag-doped carbon film on a porous carbon-coated SS316 L substrate. Compared to the bare SS316 L, the Ag-doped carbon-coated SS316 L bipolar plate was remarkably more stable in both the anode and cathode environments of proton exchange membrane fuel cell(PEMFC) and the interface contact resistance between the specimen and Toray 060 carbon paper was reduced from 333.0 m?·cm^2 to 21.6 m?·cm^2 at a compaction pressure of 1.2 MPa.
文摘The foreign experimental and FEM research of steel moment-resisting connection reinforced with steel plates are introduced. The effect of weld on the connection design is studied in two ways including weld detail and geometrical detail of steel plates contrast to the reference drawing of connection design in China. The research shows that the weld plays an important role in the design of connections. The welds connecting reinforced plates and beam/column flange and the plate geometry have direct influence on the performance of the connections reinforced with plates. The study is helpful to the application of design of steel moment-resisting connection with steel plates.
文摘In the present study, the market needs for the development of steel plates with excellent heat affected zone(HAZ) toughness are analyzed, and the mechanism of the decrease in the HAZ toughness during high-heat input welding is discussed. The important countermeasure for improving the HAZ toughness is to employ the technology of oxide metallurgy, namely,to make use of fine inclusion particles for improving the microstructure of HAZ.The progress and theories of oxide metallurgy technologies developed in the Nippon Steel Corporation(NSC),the JFE Steel Corporation and the Kobe Steel Group are illustrated.Steel plates developed by these three companies with excellent HAZ toughness are introduced.
文摘The composition and production technology of the type of hot-rolled steel plate used in two-sided enameling were briefly described. A better bubble structure in the enamel layer can be obtained by this steel plate, with no fish-scale defects on the enameled steel-plate surface.
文摘Bulletproof steel plates are widely used for the safety of special vehicles. This paper mainly researches on the shoot resistance of heat treated light weight B-grade bulletproof steel plates through numerical analysis.Based on the flow behavior of bulletproof steel plates and bullet at various high strain rates, finite element(FE) model has been set up using ANSYS/LS-DYNA software. The simulation results are compared with the shooting results, which show a good consistency and a high reliability. Therefore, the simulation results are efficient approaches and strategies to decide and select the mechanical property and thickness of bulletproof steel plates, saving a lot of work and the cost of experiments.

文摘Two dissimilar steel plates, structural steel and mild steel, were joined by explosion welding to form a composite. The composite was then heat-treated by quenching at 840℃ for 30 min followed by tempering at 200℃ for 3 h.The microstructure was investigated under an optical microscope and a scanning electron microscope. The mechanical properties were measured using Vickers microhardness and Charpy impact tests. The results show a deformed interface with typical wave features at the welding zone, but no defects were observed. Moreover, the ferrite in the parent plate in the weld zone was elongated due to the strong plastic deformation from the explosion. After heat treatment, the hardness of the flyer plate(structural steel)was over HV0.2800,while that of the parent plate(mild steel)was HV0.2200.The increase in hardness was due to the presence of martensite. Moreover, the average impact energy was increased from 18.5 to 44.0 J following heat treatment;this is because of the formation of recrystallized grains at the weld interface, which is due to the dynamic recovery and local recrystallization, and the strong elemental diffusion that occurred between the two plates.
文摘As one of the important categories of hot-rolled products,hot-rolled steel plates for automobile applications generally undergo uniform corrosion or localized corrosion according to different environments of manufacturing, transportation and/or storage of the plates.General corrosion often takes place on the surface of a plate in the exterior part of a package, and only reduces the thickness of the plate and slightly increases the roughness of the surface; however, localized corrosion on the surface of a plate inside the package is likely to result in the formation of pit-like defects on the substrate of the plate, which cannot be removed thoroughly by normal acid pickling or sand blasting, and affects the application of the plate. This research report analyzes the phenomena and characteristics of the rusting behavior of hot-rolled steel plates for automobile applications, and the influencing factors are summaried. The corresponding preventative measures are proposed.

文摘The Moso bamboo,a renewable green building material used in various new green buildings, have received exten-sive attention with the promotion of the concept of green buildings. To explore the mechanical properties of Moso bamboo connections with external clamp steel plates, the 16 specimens were designed by changing the bolt diameters and the end distances of the bolt holes.Their static tension tests were conducted to investigate bearing capacities and failure modes of different connection configurations.Based on test results, three failure modes of these connections were obtained, including the shear failure of bolt shank, bearing failure of bolt hole and punch-ing shear failure of the Moso bamboo. The influence of bolt diameters and end distances of bolt holes on bearing capacities of the connections was quantitatively analyzed.Based on a simplified mechanical model, the analytical models were deduced for the bolt shear failure and the bearing failure of bolt holes. The results showed that the predictive values are in substantial agreement with the experimental results. Finally, the design and manufacturing suggestions are recommended for this Moso bamboo connections.
