The principle of conce... Passive Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) remote sensing measurement of chemical gas cloud is a vital technology. It takes an important part in many fields for the detection of released gases. The principle of concentration measurement is based on the Beer-Lambert law. Unlike the active measurement, for the passive remote sensing, in most cases, the difference between the temperature of the gas cloud and the brightness temperature of the background is usually a few kelvins. The gas cloud emission is almost equal to the background emission, thereby the emission of the gas cloud cannot be ignored. The concentration retrieval algorithm is quite different from the active measurement. In this paper, the concentration retrieval algorithm for the passive FTIR remote measurement of gas cloud is presented in detail, which involves radiative transfer model, radiometric calibration, absorption coefficient calculation, et al. The background spectrum has a broad feature, which is a slowly varying function of frequency. In this paper, the background spectrum is fitted with a polynomial by using the Levenberg-Marquardt method which is a kind of nonlinear least squares fitting algorithm. No background spectra are required. Thus, this method allows mobile, real-time and fast measurements of gas clouds. 展开更多

Experiment researches have proven that there is an obvious phenomenon of abrupt geothermal anomaly in volcanic region in the forewarning period of volcano eruption, which is closely related to the geological structure, the cause, the scale and the type of volcano etc. On the other hand, this kind of geothermal anomaly is an important sign to monitor volcano activity by thermal infrared remote sensing techniques. This paper discusses the feature of abrupt geothermal anomaly, the transmission mechanism of geothermal anomaly and the radiation transmission mechanism of heat field of terrene in volcanic region. By analyzing mechanism of terrene temperature rising by way of conduction and convection of heat, we have presented the transmission equation of atmosphere for thermal infrared radiation based on the effective radiation of objects. The related problems of noise interference in the processes of transmission for thermal infrared radiation will be discussed in the later paper. 展开更多

A new remote sensing method is described to determine the vertical distribution and total content of atmospheric ozone. The method combines surface infrared, satellite infrared and ultraviolet channels. The width of the infrared channels is 0.01 cm-1, less than Lorentz half-width at the earth's surface, rather than the present width, because these channels can obtain information about variations in the ozone profile below the profile main-peak. The numerical experiments show that the method has a satisfactory precision in determining total ozone content, just about I percent error, and vertical distribution from the earth to 65 km space. In addition, some semi-analysis functions lor calculating backscattered ultraviolet and a relaxation equation are described in this paper. 展开更多

The disadvantages of zenith pointing measuring instruments and whole sky visible imagers limit the application of them.A summary of the actuality and application of ground-based whole sky infrared cloud measuring instruments and analyses of the techniques of radiometric calibrations,removal of atmospheric emission and calculation of cloud cover,amount,type are conducted to promote the automatically observation of the whole sky. Fully considering whole sky infrared cloud sounding theories,techniques and applications,there are still a lot of studies on improving the properties of instruments,enhancing the techniques of cloud base height measurements and establishing instrumental cloud classification criterion before actual operations. 展开更多

According to the data characteristics of Landsat thematic mapper(TM) and MODIS,a new fusion algorithm about thermal infrared data has been proposed in the article based on improving wavelet reconstruction.Under the domain of neighborhood wavelet reconstruction,data of TM and MODIS are divided into three layers using wavelet decomposition.The texture infonnation of TM data is retained by fusing high-frequency information.The neighborhood correction coefficient method(NCCM) is set up based on the search neighborhood of a certain size to fuse low-frequency information.Thermal infrared value of MODIS data is reduced to the space value of TM data by applying NCCM.The data with high spectrum,high spatial and high temporal resolution,are obtained through the algorithm in the paper.Verification results show that the texture information of TM data and high spectral information of MODIS data could be preserved well by the fusion algorithm.This article could provide technical support for high precision and fast extraction of the surface environment parameters. 展开更多

The spectral characters of hydrocarbons in some oil-bearing strata and soil layers over oil and gas reservoirs in the Junggar Basin and northern Tarim Basin in Xinjiang are compared with those of chemically pure hydrocarbons. The hydrocarbons are characterized by the bi-absorption at 2310nm and 2350nm. Hydrocarbon and radioactive anomalies in oil and gas terrains are found much more widespread than carbonate altcrations. Based on the spectra of heavy hydrocarbons related to oil between 2270nm and 2460nm and refined data treatme nt, remote sensing may hold encouraging promise as a directly prospecting technique for oil and gas resources. 展开更多

This paper discusses the extraction methodology using the ASTER remote sensing data and reveals the good extraction results. This paper bravely represents the summary of the main achievement for this field by the scientists in other countries and gives a comparison with the works by others. The Normalized Diff erence Vegetation Index(NDVI),one of the earliest remote sensing analytical products used to simplify the complexities of multi-spectral imagery,is now the most popular index used for vegetation assessment.This popularity and widespread use relate to how an NDVI can be calculated with any multispectral sensor with a visible and a near-IR band.Increasingly low costs and weights of multispectral sensors mean they can be mounted on satellite,aerial,and increasingly—Unmanned Aerial Systems(UAS).While studies have found that the NDVI is effective for expressing vegetation status andquantified vegetation attributes,its widespread use and popularity,especially in UAS applications,carry inherent risks of misuse with end users who received little to no remote sensing education.This article summarizes the progress of NDVI acquisition,highlights the areas of NDVI application,and addresses the critical problems and considerations in using NDVI.Detailed discussion mainly covers three aspects:atmospheric eff ect,saturation phenomenon,and sensor factors.The use of NDVI can be highly eff ective as long as its limitations and capabilities are understood.This consideration is particularly important to the UAS user community. 展开更多

Many new monitoring data in this domain have been used, and new data processing methods have been developed to obtain high-precision images about crustal deformation, outgoing longwave radiation (OLR), surface latent heat flux (SLHF), and ionospheric parameters. The development in monitoring technology and data processing technique largely enriches earthquake research information and provides new tools for earthquake stereoscope monitoring system, especially on the space part. The components of urban surface cover are diversified,and component temperature has greater physical significance and application values in the studies on urban thermal environment.Although the multi-angle retrieval algorithm of component temperature has been matured gradually,its application in the studies on urban thermal environment is restricted due to the difficulty in acquiring urban-scale multi-angle thermal infrared data.Therefore,based on the existing multi-source multi-band remote sensing data,access to appropriate urban-scale component temperature is an urgent issue to be solved in current studies on urban thermal infrared remote sensing.Then,a retrieval algorithm of urban component temperature by multi-source multi-band remote sensing data on the basis of MODIS and Landsat TM images was proposed with expectations achieved in this work,which was finally validated by the experiment on urban images of Changsha,China.The results show that:1)Mean temperatures of impervious surface components and vegetation components are the maximum and minimum,respectively,which are in accordance with the distribution laws of actual surface temperature;2)High-accuracy retrieval results are obtained in vegetation component temperature.Moreover,through a contrast between retrieval results and measured data,it is found that the retrieval temperature of impervious surface component has the maximum deviation from measured temperature and its deviation is greater than 1℃,while the deviation in vegetation component temperature is relatively low at 0.5°C. 展开更多

Volcanic eruption is one of the most serious geological disasters,however,a host of facts have proven that the Changbai Mountains volcano is a modern dormant one and has ever erupted disastrously. With the rapid development of remote sensing technology,space monitoring of volcanic activities has already become possible,particularly in the application of thermal infrared remote sensing. The paper,through the detailed analysis of geothermal anomaly factors such as heat radiation,heat conduction and convection,depicts the monitoring principles by which volcano activities would be monitored efficiently and effectively. Reasons for abrupt geothermal anomaly are mainly analyzed,and transmission mechanism of geothermal anomaly in the volcanic regions is explained. Also,a variety of noises disturbing the transmission of normal geothermal anomaly are presented. Finally,some clues are given based on discussing thermal infrared remote sensing monitoring mechanism toward the volcanic areas. 展开更多

After carefully studying the results of retrieval of land surface temperature(LST) by multi-channel thermal infrared remote sensing data, the authors of this paper point out that its accuracy and significance for applications are seriously damaged by the high correlation coefficient among multi-channel information and its disablement of direct retrieval of component temperature. Based on the model of directional radiation of non-isothermal mixed pixel, the authors point out that multi-angle thermal infrared remote sensing can offer the possibility to directly retrieve component temperature, but it is also a multi-parameter synchronous inverse problem. The results of digital simulation and field experiments show that the genetic inverse algorithm (GIA) is an effective method to fulfill multi-parameter synchronous retrieval. So it is possible to realize retrieval of component temperature with error less than 1K by multi-angle thermal infrared remote sensing data and GIA. 展开更多

Over the Asian continent,high aerosol loading is critical to ensure the high accuracy of CO_2 retrieval in the near infrared absorption band.Simulations were performed to explore the effect of light path modification by aerosol son the atmospheric CO_2 near infrared band(6140-6270 cm^(-1)).The Vector LInearized Discrete Ordinate Radiative Transfer(VLIDORT) model and the Line-By-Line Radiative Transfer Model(LBLRTM) were used for forward calculations.The U.S.standard atmosphere was used for atmospheric profiles.The results indicate that the aerosols caused similar effects to increases in CO_2 in the planetary boundary layer and became more significant with aerosol layer rising while aerosol optical depth was 0.1.This effect will cause an over estimation of the CO_2 mixing ratio in the retrieval process and an under estimation in the aerosol layer.The results also indicate that the effect of urban and industrial aerosols is smaller than that of non-absorbing and dust aerosols because of the nearly constant absorption properties in the near infrared band. 展开更多

With the portable Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), the reflectance spectra of soil samples with different moisture content are measured in laboratory for expounding the characteristic of radiation in the thermal infrared part of the spectrum with different soil moisture content. A model of estimating the moisture content in soil is attempted to make based on Moisture Diagnostic Index (MDI). In general,the spectral characteristic of soil emissivity in laboratory includes the following aspects.Firstly,in the region of 8.0-9.5 μm,along with the increase of soil moisture content,the emissivity of soil increases to varying degrees. The spectral curves are parallel relatively and have a tendency to become horizontal and the absorbed characteristic of reststrahlen is also weakened relatively with the increase of soil moisture in this region.Secondly,in the region of 11.0-14.0 μm,the emissivity of soil has a tendency of increasing.There is an absorption value near about 12.7 μm. As the soil moisture content increases,the depth of absorption also increases. This phenomenon may be caused by soil moisture absorption. Methods as derivative, difference and standardized ratio transformation may weaken the background noise effectively to the spectrum data. Especially using the ratio of the emissivity to the average of 8-14 μm may obviously enhance the correlation between soil moisture and soil emissivity. According to the result of correlation analysis, the 8.237 μm is regarded as the best detecting band for soil moisture content. Moreover,based on the Moisture Diagnostic Index ( MDI) in the 8.194-8.279 μm, the logarithmic model of estimating soil moisture is made. 展开更多

Previous studies show that infrared radiation temperature(IRT)abnormalities are always accompanied by the crack development in rocks under external loads.In this context,experiments were conducted on preflawed sandstone to investigate the infrared radiation characteristics during failure process.Two indicators were defined herein,i.e.coefficient of variation of IRT(CVIRT)and skewness of IRT(SIRT).The regression analysis shows that the IRT probability distributions during loading process fit the Gaussian model.The variations in the CVIRT are characterized by four stages:primary stage,steady stage,accelerating stage and post-peak stage.Besides,the variations in the SIRT are divided into three stages:primary stage,steady stage and failure and post-peak stage.The precursor point for preflawed rock failure is identified based on the CVIRTetime curve,with average precursor point of 83%of the peak stress.Compared with other IRT indicators,the proposed two IRT indicators have higher sensitivity to IRT abnormalities during failure process.Furthermore,the connection between the IRT indicators and the rock fracturing was investigated to interpret the IRT indicator abnormalities.Based on the Verhulst inverse function,a new quantitative model was presented to describe the primary stage,steady stage and accelerating stage of the CVIRTetime curve.The results obtained in this study can provide early-warning information for rock failure prediction. 展开更多

In this paper we also demonstrate simply that through joint observations by a dual-wavelength (1.35 cm and 8.5mm) microwave radiometer and by infrared radiometer (8.5—12.5μm),it is possible to obtain total water vapor,liquid water content in clouds and CBH and CBT. 展开更多
