To boost the performance of 4-ary pulse amplitude modulated(PAM) at low signal-to-noise ratio(SNR), bistable stochastic resonance(BSR) system is introduced into digital communications system and get a reliable signal detection scheme. In this paper, we first analyse BSR system for different amplitudes of 4-ary PAM signals. The steadystate of the bistable system will be statistically distinct, and the feasibility of the proposed detection scheme is confirmed. On this basis, we present a detailed study on steady-state transitions of the BSR system, and an explicit expression of the bistable system parameters is derived. By setting the bistable system parameters, bistable system, 4-ary PAM signal, and noise reach the resonance state, and the BSR-based detection scheme is implemented. Moreover, we derive an analytical expression to calculate the symbol error rate(SER) of 4-ary PAM signals with the BSR-based detection under additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN). Finally, the simulation results validate that BSR-based detection scheme can improve the detection performance while efficiently reducing the symbol error rate. 展开更多

The lower bounds of the mean and variance of the estimation are derived, and simulations are performed for the commonly used digital bandpass signals, such as MPSK (M=2, 4, 8), MFSK (M=2, 4) and MQAM (M=16, 64, 128, 256) signals. Theoretical analyses and simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm is ef- fective even when the SNR is below 0dB. Furthermore, the algorithm can provide a blind estimator in that it needs neither the parameters of the received signals, such as the carrier frequency, symbol rate and modulation scheme, nor the synchronization of the system. 展开更多

Grating-based x-ray phase contrast imaging has the potential to be applied in future medical applications as it is compatible with both laboratory and synchrotron source. However, information retrieval methods are important because acquisition speed, scanning mode, image quality, and radiation dose depend on them. Phase-stepping (PS) is a widely used method to retrieve information, while angular signal radiography (ASR) is a newly established method. In this manuscript, signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) of ASR are compared with that of PS. Numerical experiments are performed to validate theoretical results. SNRs comparison shows that for refraction and scattering images ASR has higher SNR than PS method, while for absorption image both methods have same SNR. Therefore, our conclusions would have guideline in future preclinical and clinical applications. 展开更多

In ultrasonic non-destructive tests, the echo signal at the flaw is highly complex due to the interference of multiple echoes with random amplitudes and phases, and is disturbed by all kinds of noises, such as thermal noise, digitalization noise, and structure noise. In this paper, the ultrasonic signal was decomposed by empirical mode decomposition (EMD) to obtain the in-trinsic mode function (IMF) components according to ultrasonic defect echo signals occuring at the corresponding time, and the energy of the ultrasonic signal was concentrated. The IMF component selection criterion based on sub-band energy extraction was proposed to extract the ultrasonic signal component accurately and automatically from IMF components. When the selected IMF components were filtered by a band pass filter, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) was enhanced greatly. 展开更多

Sonar generated acoustic signals transmitted in underwater channel for distant communications are affected by numerous factors like ambient noise, making them nonlinear and non-stationary in nature. In recent years, the application of Empirical Mode Decomposition(EMD) technique to analyze nonlinear and non-stationary signals has gained much attention. It is an empirical approach to decompose a signal into a set of oscillatory modes known as intrinsic mode functions(IMFs). In general, Hilbert transform is used in EMD for the identification of oscillatory signals. In this paper a new EMD algorithm is proposed using FFT to identify and extract the acoustic signals available in the underwater channel that are corrupted due to various ambient noises over a range of 100 Hz to 10 kHz in a shallow water region. Data for analysis are collected at a depth of 5 m and 10 m offshore Chennai at the Bay of Bengal. The algorithm is validated for different sets of known and unknown reference signals. It is observed that the proposed EMD algorithm identifies and extracts the reference signals against various ambient noises. Significant SNR improvement is also achieved for underwater acoustic signals. 展开更多

Micro-Doppler feature extraction of unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)is important for their identification and classification.Noise and the motion state of the UAV are the main factors that may affect feature extraction and estimation precision of the micro-motion parameters.The spectrum of UAV echoes is reconstructed to strengthen the micro-motion feature and reduce the influence of the noise on the condition of low signal to noise ratio(SNR).Then considering the rotor rate variance of UAV in the complex motion state,the cepstrum method is improved to extract the rotation rate of the UAV,and the blade length can be intensively estimated.The experiment results for the simulation data and measured data show that the reconstruction of the spectrum for the UAV echoes is helpful and the relative mean square root error of the rotating speed and blade length estimated by the proposed method can be improved.However,the computation complexity is higher and the heavier computation burden is required. 展开更多

The measurement of the rolling angle of the projectile is one of the key technologies for the terminal correction projectile.To improve the resolution accuracy of the rolling angle in the laser seeker weapon system, the imaging model of the detector, calculation model of the position and the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) model of the circuit are built to derive both the correlation between the resolution error of the rolling angle and the spot position, and the relation between the position resolution error and the SNR. Then the influence of each parameter on the SNR is analyzed at large,and the parameters of the circuit are determined. Meanwhile, the SNR and noise voltage of the circuit are calculated according to the SNR model and the decay model of the laser energy. Finally,the actual photoelectric detection circuit is built, whose SNR is measured to be up to 53 d B. It can fully meet the requirement of0.5° for the resolution error of the rolling angle, thereby realizing the analysis of critical technology for photoelectric detection of laser seeker signals. 展开更多

However, the detection effect of current SR models is still unsatisfactory. Here, a coupled tri-stable stochastic resonance (CTSSR) model is proposed to further increase the output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and improve the detection effect of SR. The effects of parameters a, b, c, and r in the proposed resonance system on the SNR are studied, by which we determine a set of parameters that is relatively optimal to implement a comparison with other classical SR models. Numerical experiment results indicate that this proposed model performs better in weak signal detection applications than the classical ones with merits of higher output SNR and better anti-noise capability. 展开更多

Continuous coverage from close-in "pop-up" targets in clutter to long-range targets impacts selection of waveform parameters. The coherent processing interval (CPI) must be long enough to achieve a certain signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) that ensures the efficiency of detection. The condition of detection in the case of low SNR is analyzed, and three different cases that would occur during integration are discussed and a method to determine the CPI is presented. The simulation results show that targets detection with SNR as low as -26 dB in the experimental system can possibly determine the CPI. 展开更多

The special training sequences with the property of orthogonality and phase shift orthogonality are used in pilot tones to obtain the estimated channel correlation matrix. Partitioning the observation space into a delay subspace and a noise subspace, we achieve the measurement of noise variance and SNR. Simulation results show that the proposed estimator can obtain accurate and real-time measurements of the noise variance and SNR for various multipath fading channels, demonstrating its strong robustness against different channels. 展开更多

This paper focuses on the extraction of a harmonic signal from multiplicative and additive noises. A method is proposed in two stages: (1) to square the original discrete time series, which in- cludes both signals and noises, and form a new time series. By this means, the multiplicative noise is converted to additive noise; and (2) to filter out the noise by using existing noise removal schemes. With a large amount of simulation, experimental results demonstrated the efficiency and effective- ness of this newly developed method in terms of Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) and other criteria. From the experiment, it is also found that: the two kinds of noises affect the SNR differently. In gen- eral, the SNR is not influenced by multiplicative Gaussian noise regardless of its variance. However, if both kinds of noise exist, the SNR decreases with the incensement of the Variance of Additive Noise to Multiplicative Noise Ratio (VAMNR). Two-stage de-noising processing can reduce the impact of baseline drift and determine automatic peak detection threshold range for signal recognition by distinguishing different features of frame synchronization pulse and instruction pulse. Rising and falling edge relative protruding threshold is defined for peak detection in signal recognition, which can make full use of the degree of the signal peak change and detect peaks flexibly with rising and falling edge relative protruding threshold combination. A synchronous decoding method was designed to reduce position uncertainty of the frame synchronization pulse and eliminate the accumulative error of time base drift, which determines the first instruction pulse position according to position of the frame synchronization pulse and decodes subsequent instruction pulse by taking current instruction pulse as new bit synchronization pulse. Special tool software was developed to tune algorithm parameters, which has a decoding success rate of about 95% for the universal coded signals. For the special coded signals with check byte, decoding success rate using the automatic threshold adjustment algorithm is as high as 99%. 展开更多
