[ Method] The larvae distribution in eucalyptus planta- tion in Beiliu and Luchuan counties of Guangxi province were investigated. Ten standard plots were set, and the spatial distribution pattern of E. signifer larva was confirmed using six different aggregation indexes and regression model analysis method. [ Result] The larvae mainly distributed in the base of tnmk lower than 1 m, and its spatial distribution pattern was mainly aggregated distribution, which was caused by the enviromnental factors. The optimum sampling formula of E. signifer larva under different population densities was n = t2 （ 1.1/m ＋ 0. 674 4）/D2, and limited sequential sampling decision model was T＇0（n）, T＇0（n） = n ＋ 1. 332√n（ m0 = 1 ）. [ Conclusion] The result provided scientific basis for sampling and forecasting of E. signifier.展开更多
The management of municipal solid waste （MSW） is currently one of the major environmental concerns in Mexico. Therefore, municipalities must develop local programs for prevention and integrated management of MSW bas...The management of municipal solid waste （MSW） is currently one of the major environmental concerns in Mexico. Therefore, municipalities must develop local programs for prevention and integrated management of MSW based on the data of MSW generation; however, these are scarce and diffuse. It is known that the MSW generation is affected by many factors, including life level. Given the importance of having reliable data, the objective of this study was to determine the per capita MSW generation of a small urban locality in the state of Veracruz and test whether there were significant statistic differences of per capita M SW generation among the life levels. The households were randomly sampled according to the Mexican standard of reference and were classified as popular, middle and residential. The per capita MSW generation determined was 0.355 kg·inhab^-1.day^-1. This value was lower than the value estimated by the national reference, suggesting that it might be overestimated and consequently lead to errors in estimating installations costs for the MSW treatment. The result of the experimental design revealed that there were significant statistic differences in the per capita MSW generation among the three socioeconomic strata. This study will allow the municipality to establish better strategies within the municipal program and differential rate for the provision of public clean service and it also provides a solid basis for future research under similar conditions.展开更多

The importance of argumentation in academic writing,while historically recognised,has arguably lost prominence alongside the rapid expansion of higher education since the early 1990s in the UK.This has been exacerbate...The importance of argumentation in academic writing,while historically recognised,has arguably lost prominence alongside the rapid expansion of higher education since the early 1990s in the UK.This has been exacerbated by an increasingly prevalent technological intervention in teaching and learning processes.With this as a background,this article presents a semiotic analysis of student dissertation extracts to illustrate the role of intertextuality in governing interpretative,evaluative,and concluding propositions in argumentation.Each proposition is perceived as indexed to syntactical compositionality by which a previous proposition elicits a present one that awaits a future one,thus forming a line of argument.The analysis teases out what is at stake concerning the interdependence of signifying codes in textual relations and functions.This brings into view a network of sign actions that lends itself to instances of signification in mediating and coordinating propositions in argumentation.The article concludes with reflection on the medium of English as a lingua franca for studies in higher education,highlighting a semiotic understanding of the intertextuality of argumentation in academic writing.展开更多

By applying the general urban design results into planning practices, the unique townscape with local characteristics can be shaped gradually through effective guidance on urban spaces. This paper, based on the practice of general urban design in Qingpu New City, provides a systematic analysis on the general urban design from the perspectives of the structure of urban spaces, the landscape control of key areas, the design guidelines and elements, and so forth.展开更多
