The particle erosion mathematical model, which considers particle-particle interaction, was established and used to simulate solid particle movement as well as particle erosion characteristics of the solid-liquid two-phase flow in a choke. The corresponding erosion reduction approach by setting ribs on the inner wall of the choke was advanced. This mathematical model includes three parts: the flow field simulation of the continuous carrier fluid by an Eulerian approach, the particle interaction simulation using the discrete particle hard sphere model by a Lagrangian approach and calculation of erosion rate using semiempirical correlations. The results show that particles accumulated in a narrow region from inlet to outlet of the choke and the dominating factor affecting particle motion is the fluid drag force. As a result, the optimization of rib geometrical parameters indicates that good anti-erosion performance can be achieved by four ribs, each of them with a height (H) of 3 mm and a width (B) of 5 mm equaling the interval between ribs (L).展开更多

In this study, a physically-based two-phase model is applied for the simulation of debris flow scouring of bridge pier. In this model, the shear stress of debris flow on an erodible bed is considered to be a function of the solid shear stress, fluid shear stress, and volume fraction; accordingly, the erosion is incorporated into the two-phase model. Using a highaccuracy computational scheme based on the finite volume method, the model is employed for simulating a dynamic debris flow over an erodible bed. The numerical results are consistent with the experimental data, and verify the feasibility of the two-phase model. Moreover, a simple numerical test is performed to exhibit the fundamental behaviour of debris flow scouring of bridge pier, which shows that the degree of erosion on each side of the pier is higher compared to other areas. The scouring depth is influenced by the variations of solid volume fraction and velocity of debris flow and pier width.展开更多

A standard k-e turbulence model was chosen to close the governing equations. The computational results were in agreement with previous laboratory measurements. The characteristics of the two-phase flow field and the influences of hydraulic and geometric parameters on the distribution of the slurry jets were analyzed on the basis of the computational results. The calculated results reveal that if the initial velocity of the slurry jet is high, the jet spreads less in the radial direction. When the slurry jet is less influenced by the ambient fluid (when the Stokes number St is relatively large), the turbulent kinetic energy k and turbulent dissipation rate e, which are relatively concentrated around the jet axis, decrease more rapidly after the slurry jet passes through the nozzle. For different values of St, the radial distributions of streamwise velocity and particle volume fraction are both self-similar and fit a Gaussian profile after the slurry jet fully develops. The decay rate of the particle velocity is lower than that of water velocity along the jet axis, and the axial distributions of the centerline particle streamwise velocity are self-similar along the jet axis. The pattern of particle dispersion depends on the Stokes number St. When St = 0.39, the panicle dispersion along the radial direction is considerable, and the relative velocity is very low due to the low dynamic response time. When St = 3.08, the dispersion of particles along the radial direction is very little, and most of the particles have high relative velocities along the streamwise direction.展开更多

The performance of the liquid-desiccant evaporator was studied as the concentration of the inlet solution varied between 21% and 30% and the pipe wall temperature between 30 and 50 ℃. Results show that the humidification rate and the humidification efficiency increased with the inlet air temperature, the solution flow rate, the solution temperature, and the pipe wall temperature. The humidification rate and humidification efficiency decreased with increasing moisture content in inlet air and the concentration of inlet solution. The humidification rate increased substantially but the humidification efficiency decreased as the inlet air flow rate increased. However, the flow behavior of such beds is not well understood due to the lack of accurate experimental and numerical data. In the current study, the behavior of monodisperse and binary liquid-solid fluidized beds of the same density but dif- ferent sizes is investigated using radioactive particle tracking (RPT) technique and a dense discrete phase model (DDPM). Experiments and simulations are performed in monodisperse fluidized beds containing two different sizes of glass beads (0.6 and I mm) and a binary fluidized bed of the same particles for vari- ous bed compositions. General methodology has been focused on the Eulerian-Lagrangian description of particulate flows, where the particles behave as the catalysts or the reactant materials. For the strong interaction between the transport phenomena (i.e., momentum, heat and mass transfer) and the chemical reactions at the particle scale, a cross-scale modeling approach, i.e., CFD-DEM or CFD-DPM, is established for describing a wide variety of complex reacting flows in multiphase reactors, Representative processes, including fluid catalytic cracking (FCC), catalytic conversion of syngas to methane, and coal pyrolysis to acetylene in thermal plasma, are chosen as case studies to demonstrate the unique advantages of the theoretical scheme based on the integrated particle-scale information with clear physical meanings, This type of modeling approach provides a solid basis for understanding the multiphase reacting flow problems in general.展开更多

In the Eulerian-Eulerian two-phase model, the gas and the liquid phase are considered to be two different continuous fluids interacting with each other through the finite inter-phase areas. The exchange between the phases is represented by source terms in conversation equations. Turbulence is assumed to be a property of the liquid phase. A new turbulence modification - model is introduced to consider the bubbles movement contribution to and . The dispersion of phases due to turbulence is represented by introducing a diffusion term in mass conservation equation. The mathematical simulation agrees well with the experiment results. The study results indicate that the distance of two nozzles has big effect on fluid flow behavior in the vessel. Using two gas injection nozzles at the half radii of one diameter of the bottom generates a much better mixing than with one nozzle under the condition of the same total gas flow rate.展开更多

Based on the discrete-time movement model, we propose control strategies for mixed train movement with different speeds on a high-speed double-track rail line, including braking strategy, priority rule, travelling strategy, and departing rule. A new detailed algorithm is also presented based on the proposed control strategies for mixed train movement. Moreover, we analyze the dynamic properties of rail traffic flow on a high-speed rail line. Using our proposed method, we can effectively simulate the mixed train schedule on a rail line. The numerical results demonstrate that an appropriate decrease of the departure interval can enhance the capacity, and a suitable increase of the distance between two adjacent stations can enhance the average speed. Meanwhile, the capacity and the average speed will be increased by appropriately enhancing the ratio of faster train number to slower train number from 1.展开更多

The effects of spray parameters on droplets Santer mean diameter (SMD), droplet collision speed, the thickness of liquid-film, the surface temperature and its uniformity were analyzed in the present study. The simulation results and the experimental data obtained in the available literature agree within 13.8%, The computational results show that the spray pressure is the main factor to realize the atomization. Increasing the mass flux and the spray pressure, the droplet collision speed increases while the corresponding maximum film thickness on the heated surface declines. The surface temperature changes indistinctively with the increase of the spray distance, but the temperature distribution tends to be uniform.展开更多

Several undetermined constitutive relationships are included in the General Two-Fluid Model (GTFM), the adjustable parameters of which are always chosen at will to some extent. Although there are no adjustable parameters in the Basic Two-Fluid Model (BTFM), its eigenvalues are complex numbers and it is ill-posed for initial-value problems. The Local Equilibrium Model (LEM), a further simplification of BTFM, is discussed at length. Although the model is very simple, it is highly capable of simulating complex processes in pulsed fluidization over a broad range of operating parameters, and its numerical results well fit experimental results in both the variation of bed height and the distribution of particle concentration as fluidizing velocity varies.展开更多

文摘Based on the two-phase model (Eulerian-Eulerian model), the three dimensional fluid flow in water and that liquid steel systems stirred by one or two multiple gas jets are simulated. Using two gas injection nozzles at the half radii of one diameter of the bottom generates a much better mixing than with one nozzle under the condition of the same total gas flow rate.

文摘In this paper, a new simulation approach for solving the mixed train scheduling problem on the high-speed double-track rail line is presented. Meanwhile, the capacity and the average speed will be increased by appropriately enhancing the ratio of faster train number to slower train number from 1.

文摘Based on the Eulerian-Lagrangian approach,a mathematical model was established to describe the gas-liquid flow behavior in the Ruhrstahl-Heraeus(RH)degasser.The momentum source and the turbulent kinetic energy source due to the motion of gas bubbles were considered for the liquid flow. The effect of the expansion of gas bubbles on the liquid velocity, recirculation rate, and mixing time was quantitatively evaluated. After the fluid flow reached the steady state, the melting and mixing processes of aluminum alloys in the RH degasser were also investigated. The results indicate that the expansion of gas bubbles has a significant infuence on the recirculation rate and the mixing time in the RH process.Increasing the superheat of liquid steel and decreasing the initial diameter of alloy particles are beneficial to promote the melting and mixing of alloy particles.Due to the existence of solidified steel shells, the maximum diameter of the alloy particle is about 1.5 times its initial diameter.
文摘Fluid flow in fractured media has been studied for decades and received considerable attention in the oil and gas industry because of the high productivity of naturally fractured reservoirs.Due to formation complexity and reservoir heterogeneity, characterizing fluid flow with an appropriate reservoir model presents a challenging task that differs relatively from homogeneous conventional reservoirs in many aspects of view, including geological, petrophysical, production, and economics. In most fractured reservoirs, fracture networks create complex pathways that affect hydrocarbon flow, well performance, hence reservoir characterization.A better and comprehensive understanding of the available reservoir modeling approaches is much needed to accurately characterize fluid flow behavior in NFRs.Therefore,in this paper,a perspective review of the available modeling approaches was presented for fluid flow characterization in naturally fractured medium.Modeling methods were evaluated in terms of their description, application, advantages, and disadvantages. This study has also included the applications of these reservoir models in fluid flow characterizing studies and governing equations for fluid flow.Dual continuum models were proved to be better than single continuum models in the presence of large scale fractures. In comparison, discrete models were more appropriate for reservoirs that contain a smaller number of fractures. However, hybrid modeling was the best method to provide accurate and scalable fluid flow modeling. It is our understanding that this paper will bridge the gap between the fundamental understanding and application of NFRs modeling approaches and serve as a useful reference for engineers and researchers for present and future applications.

文摘Numerical simulations have been carried out to investigate the liquid atomization and spray process using the Discrete Phase Model of the commercial CFD code combined with the Wall-Film boundary conditions. The surface temperature changes indistinctively with the increase of the spray distance, but the temperature distribution tends to be uniform.

文摘This work mainly studies the effect of fluid phase momentum transfer mechanisms on the acidizing results, including the retardation effect of the porous structure and the interaction between the fluid phase, such as viscous dissipation and inertial effect. The results show that the acid fluid momentum transfer is influenced by the complex porous structure and fluid viscous dissipation.Eventually, the Stokes-Darcy equation is recommended to be adopted to describe the fluid phase momentum transfer in the following numerical simulation studies of the carbonate acidizing process.Based on this model,a parametric research is carried out to investigate the impact of acid on rock physical characteristics in the stimulation process.Increasing the acid concentration appears to minimize the quantity of acid consumed for the breakthrough. The acid surface reaction rate has a considerable impact on the pore volume to breakthrough and the optimum acid injection rate. The influence of permeability on the acidizing results basically shows a negative correlation with the injection rate. The difference between the acidizing curves of different permeability gradually becomes insignificant with the decrease in injection rate. The existence of isolated fracture and vug significantly reduces acid consumption for the breakthrough.

文摘Mathematical models for pulsed fluidization are systematically discussed. Although the model is very simple, it is highly capable of simulating complex processes in pulsed fluidization over a broad range of operating parameters, and its numerical results well fit experimental results in both the variation of bed height and the distribution of particle concentration as fluidizing velocity varies.
